Then you'll either need to polish it or use a chemical polisher to strip away any sealant/chemicals the dealer used on it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys I've just washed my car for the third time since getting it, and I can't seem to get it clean? It's about 70 degrees, washed it in the shade, but when I dry it, it seems oily. Even the windshield/ Using a fresh microfiber to dry, it feels like I'm using a rag with baby oil on it. When I use a towel to get the water drops, they become micro-drops (and micro-water spots) I also used Leatherique on the interior, it initially came out very sticky. A lot of Pristine Clean and elbow grease, and the leather is now matte black and feels like leather again. At least I hope it is supposed to be more matte, because it is now! Maybe I've forgotten how to do a simple car wash, but my wife's car washes fine. It seems to me that the lot where I got it dipped this thing in Armor-All. I guess it worked, the pictures on the ad showed a very shiny car and I bought it. Any suggestions? I don't want to wax it if it is covered in some detailing product. Any similar experiences with used car prep? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Would using a clay bar help? There must be a 'cleaner' that would remove the coating. What did the dealer say?

POST 3Original post

Apply some wax in an inconspicuous spot and remove it if you want to see whether the product can be removed. Also consider calling the dealer and asking if they use a product on the car - if so, you can research it and determine if you want to leave it on or get it off.

POST 4Original post

If it's some kind of coating, you might not want to work that into your clay bar. I was thinking the same thing - clay bar is great about taking most anything off the paint - but I'd hate to gum up a nice new bar with mystery oil.

POST 5Original post

I'm wondering if they used one of the washless detailer sprays - some of those can be hard to wash off.

POST 6Original post

Could be some weird coating on your car. Next wash, try a strong car wash solution or even dish washing soap, to see if it helps strip off whatever wax is on your car. Could also be that your towels aren't as absorbent (try some waffle weave microfiber for drying). The easiest way to dry a car is to rinse the car without the sprayer on the house, to sheet the water off. This handles 80% of the water. Then blot dry with some large waffle weave microfiber. Finish off with some detailing spray and normal microfiber towels. As for Leatherique, no need to use rejuvinator oil on a new car, as that product is more for the yearly cleaning. Just use Prestine Clean as necessary. For weekly maintenance, I prefer a slightly damp towel followed by dry.

POST 7Original post

Dawn dish soap to deep wash. Then you'll either need to polish it or use a chemical polisher to strip away any sealant/chemicals the dealer used on it. You'll want to reapply some sort of sealant or coating, followed by an optional wax layer of your choice to bring out the depth more if you feel the need. I have quite a bit of Klasse AIO and Sealer if you want some.

POST 8Original post

My body shop friend advised me to use Ivory dish soap to wash my car. This is the mildest soap he told me.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 11673384

In this case, the point of the dawn would be to strip anything on the surface of the paint. Sometimes with sealant, dawn won't be enough, but certainly a product like Klasse AIO (which has plenty of chemical cleaners and low levels of abrasive) would do the trick.

dealer detailer's have solvent to remove glues, oils, etc...generally just called 'body solvent'

I think you are right on, on both points

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I should clarify a bit - by dealer, I mean smarmy 'high end' used car dealer. The places that take the cars too old or high mileage to CPO wholesale from the dealers, detail the crap out of them, and put 'em up for sale. I don't like stepping foot in those places, but they always have cars that intrigue me... I think you guys are right, it's a lot of quick-detail stuff. It seemed better with the last wash, I'll try the Ivory or Dawn soap next time. Alpine - thanks for the offer - feels like I need to get the basics down first! Plus, I need to look up what Klasse AIO is! Pictures attached of car at dealer, and after 3rd wash. My bad camera and photo skills come in handy when trying to accentuate flaws pf

FWIW, I still have a 1/2 gallon of it left and only use it to clay now. I have the first gen ONR which tends to be not as slick and will eventually take off some sealants like Klasse if used often. My go to is Ultima Waterless Wash Plus. Great bang for the buck and is quite a bit more slicker than ONR.
