I have put the Original air box back and it still does it, I run 93 gas, and all my oil changes and coolant are up to date.

I researched it and I changed the coil pack and the spark plug, then it ran ok for several months the it did it again so I took it to the Porsche dealer ship and they performed a leak down check, also replaced the spark plug and coil and installed a new injector ( $$ ouch ), then about 5 months later it did it again I took it back to the dealer and they erased it and off I went, about 3 months later It was at a light (no one around) I launched the car and when I came to a stop the car started to shake and the 0302 code came back, I have a scangauge in my car so I managed to erased it and the car drove a little better, if I baby the car the code doesn't come on at all but if I gun it or launc

The normal around/through town stop and go, the pulling away from a stop light and going up through a couple of gears -- no need to hit the rev limiter either -- then slowing/stopping again, then repeat this over and over again can have the coolant temperature and most likely the oil temperature quite warm.

If I drive her HARD the 0302 cel will come on instantly and I will physically have to erase it either by disconnecting the battery or using the CEL scan

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well the cel came back on this morning while I was sitting at a red light, the idle started to jump and the cel began to flash once I got the green and started moving ( around 15 mph ) the cel went away on its own and didn't come back, I also got cel 0430 under normal driving......
Hi guys today I decided to change the oil on the 911 i took the oil cap off and founf this.... but when i checked the oil and drained it it was clear and no gunk can someone please give me good news?? Everything else looks good the car DOES NOT over heat. And the coolant was full.... any ideas?
Oil is clear no gunk
Expanding on what DTMiller said above, what you're seeing is the result of moisture condensing in the crankcase. You have 9 quarts of oil in there; it really takes awhile for it to all heat up. And you don't want to just heat it up and shut it off.
I drive mine gently until the oil pressure comes down to 1.5 bar at a light, which is several miles (close to 10?). By then the water temp is about 190 or so, and then I can get on it for some fun.
Short drives are the worst thing you can do to these cars. Even if I jump in mine to just go to the post office, about 4 miles away, I take the LONG way around just to bake-off the moisture.
Consider the climate where you live as well, especially during winters. More often than not, I drive my car to temp, and take the long way to ensure the moisture is burned off.
As others have mentioned, short trips in cold weather will produce the "mayonnaise" that you see in the oil filler tube. Moisture inside the system condenses on the filler neck, then it causes the oil to emulsify into that goo that you found. Get your engine up to full operating temperature every so often and this won't happen.
You don't have to drive lots of miles but you have to drive the car enough the engine and oil gets plenty hot. You can do this just driving around town. The normal around/through town stop and go, the pulling away from a stop light and going up through a couple of gears -- no need to hit the rev limiter either -- then slowing/stopping again, then repeat this over and over again can have the coolant temperature and most likely the oil temperature quite warm. Did this today in fact with my Boxxster and the coolant temp gage needle has been about as far to right as I've seen it since the weather turned off cooler.
In fact unless you finish off a nice road trip with some around town driving the coolant and oil temperature may not get that high.
But before you do any driving, a long road trip or around town, I'd advise you to change the oil and filter.
I say this every time someone posts a pic like this.
If you ever had an air cooled (mine was a 66) VW bug as a year around driver you would be very familiar with this smutz. Sometimes my bug oil filler/breather would almost completely clog with this muck. It never showed up in the antifreeze.
ok guys she is acting up it started after I gunned it a little in the rain and now is sputtering and giving me 0302 code....... anyone? could that be the O2 sensor?
ok I had a leak test done , a new spark plug a new coil a new injector, the only thing I haven't replaced if the O2 sensor so that kind of narrows it down. Is there s front and a rear O2?
ok about a 1 1/2yrs ago the car started to throw the same code 0302, like every other day, according to the history of the car this issue has happened before and the previous owner took it to the same Porsche dealer, so they were familiar with it. I researched it and I changed the coil pack and the spark plug, then it ran ok for several months the it did it again so I took it to the Porsche dealer ship and they performed a leak down check, also replaced the spark plug and coil and installed a new injector ( $$ ouch ), then about 5 months later it did it again I took it back to the dealer and they erased it and off I went, about 3 months later It was at a light (no one around) I launched the car and when I came to a stop the car started to shake and the 0302 code came back, I have a scangauge in my car so I managed to erased it and the car drove a little better, if I baby the car the code doesn't come on at all but if I gun it or launch it from a dead stop it automatically throw a 0302 code, so far in 2 yrs that I have had the car I have seen 0403 code twice, I think that was the catalyst converter, but that was on a couple of long drives. I have put the Original air box back and it still does it, I run 93 gas, and all my oil changes and coolant are up to date. this gremlin is really getting on my last nerve.....
I knew it can't be that simple
I think O2 sensor is unlikely as it controls the whole bank. I don't have much to offer in this case. If compression and leak down check out on cyl #2, I wonder if it could be a sticky intake variocam+ lifter. Just a thought. That doesn't explain why the new coil and plug seemed to fix it for some time though.
If I baby the car I can go months without a code but the min I spin tires or launch it from a dead stop thats when she acts up.... and the code spears someone told me these cars were made to be ridden hard.. lol this has been going on for some time any info would be GREATLY appreciated.... TY in advanced.
Seen this once when I first bought my car a few years ago, but it went away after some longer distance driving, the car has been fine the last 4 years, so I'd say nothing to worry about given the short drives you do.
I'd run it hard and let it heat up and keep it hot for a while. Most if not all of the moisture junk will go away, and the rest will go away after another drive.
No sense in changing the oil just for that.
I love this form because the way this thread started out. That was the same thing I saw when I did my first oil change on my 996. As a do it your self car maintenance guy, when I drained my oil in my new to me, '99 996 Porsche to see that gunk around my oil fill cap, it's very new to me.
Thanks to everyone for answering that its a moisture problem rather than a major one.
Just to hear that I need to drive my 911 more is more of a blessing than anything else.
Aftermarket filters/airboxes can upset the air flow past/through the MAF and cause problems. A misfire is a possibility.
Since you had the plug and the coil and the injector replaced this pretty much eliminates these. What is left is -- among other things -- the electrical connection the coil has with the engine wiring harness.
Also, what is that small K&N filter doing? Don't tell you disconnected the line from the intake to the AOS and are running some 1950's crankcase breather setup?
Well the cel came back on this morning while I was sitting at a red light, the idle started to jump and the cel began to flash once I got the green and started moving ( around 15 mph ) the cel went away on its own and didn't come back, I also got cel 0430 under normal driving...... If I drive her HARD the 0302 cel will come on instantly and I will physically have to erase it either by disconnecting the battery or using the CEL scan
How frequently you change the engine oil and oil filter? What's the oil pressure when it happened? It almost sounds like the cyl #2 intake valve lifter gets stuck at high lift intermittently.
Possible causes of OBD code P0302
A code P0302 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plug or wire Faulty coil (pack) Faulty oxygen sensor(s) Faulty fuel injector Burned exhaust valve Faulty catalytic converter(s) Running out of fuel Poor compression Defective computer
Possible Solutions
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back. If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

didn't you replace a coil a few months ago, or all of them?

Oh, and on the subject of the original discussion, yellow gunk, I believe it is a non-issue and has been talked about extensively.
