Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is anyone else wondering if the new Classic Radio will work in 996? I would like to know.. Not sure if the amp in my MK1 996 has fiber optical fancy pants cables or not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=194&v=J5PgLv86QvQ

So I take it you didn't listen to the video you posted......they say up to 993's.

He then explicitly says that it is not for the 9x6 cars too. If you don't have the MOST system, however, I expect it could be made to work with minimal effort. I like the look of it in general as I despise all the "glitz" of the aftermarket units (have a not entirely terrible looking Alpine in ours), but I think it's a bit too dated looking for the 996. I also don't see the point of Nav on a screen that small...

POST 4Original post

I'm betting the wiring harness could be adapted to work with the 996. My take on it was that it is "plug and play" for 993 and prior cars. I like the look of it as well. I like the look of the Becker too but it would be great to upgrade.

I'm going to side with this as well. Those cars wouldn't have anything really fancy as far as wiring, so it shouldn't be much more difficult than putting in any other non-oem head unit.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

...I did read and hear that they claim its only up until 993, but I've spliced radio harnesses before and wouldn't mind doing so for this radio. We shall see! All we need to see is a picture of the backside of the radio or the harness. On a sidenote I was able to add bluetooth audio streaming to my CDR-220 easily and affordably, you buy the two below and it works like a charm http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NW6L75Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CUMQU50?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CUMQU50?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01 tool to pull radio: http://www.amazon.com/Porsche-Volkswagen-Mercedes-Radio-Removal/dp/B007WUQUU0/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1452876489&sr=1-1&keywords=porsche+radio+tool http://www.amazon.com/Porsche-Volkswagen-Mercedes-Radio-Removal/dp/B007WUQUU0/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1452876489&sr=1-1&keywords=porsche+radio+tool also recommend one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LP4RMG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LP4RMG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

POST 7Original post

what about something like this: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_023CPR2...0.html?tp=5684 fairly basic/classic design...

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 12929307

Ohhh thanks for that. I need to look into what's going on with our audio (front or rear channels randomly come and go). If it's the HU that might be a decent option.

POST 9Original post

I am also looking at a porsche classic unit - my bet is that if you have a single din and no loudspeakers in the doors _ therefore no am etc - you should be fine. I just bought a 996 aerokit and would like to keep it stock with the gt3 console delete - I was hoping to find a unit that would communicate with the instruments gauges for the nav ... where are you planning to get it from?

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 12929307

That's a pretty unit, but with only 2 pre-amp outputs, and a total of 4-channels, not much to work with. If I can find a 5-channel model, it may be part of the solution for the CDR23-MOST-Bose upgrade crowd. MY HU is definitely dying, so I am going to be on this topic for the next couple of months.

POST 11Original post

I can only imagine what Porsche is going to charge for this.

POST 12Original post

That Crutchfield unit would suit my needs in my '02 coupe. Can I still use the non-Bose amp in the frunk? Also, this unit looks like it has blue backlighting. I'd prefer to come closer to the stock orange. Any suggestions?

POST 13Original post

how about this http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X870...H-X8700BS.html A little bit more 'showy' but selectable display colours and a lot more tech...

POST 14Original post

Thanks Rob. That unit looks great. Anyone know if I've got a prayer of finding an interface plug? I've tapped into stereo wires before, but would prefer not to mess with the stock harness.

No way of knowing the answer to this without knowing whether you have the MOST harness connecting your HU to your power amp. If yes, then I am not aware of any way to do this. I could be wrong, but the stuff I have read which indicates otherwise always seems to involve either (1) a custom crafted harness costing more than a new ,more powerful power amp with all connections, or (2) a suggestion by someone who isn't really speaking to the MOST situation.

Krmer KR 737+ is the same unit under the hood (400 Euros) as the Porsche classic radio (1184Euros), just looks different and is not exclusively for air cooled Porsches. Hard to find, though.
