Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Alright, you Northeasterners apparently have some snow headed your way. We know this in flyover land because 1) apparently it's a slow news day, and 2) anytime anything happens to that area, it's the lead story and sells better the more dire the predictions. Reportedly, it's so bad that Gonzo and Kalashnikov are stocking up on supplies. Sooo, let's see some pics, especially of any soul brave enough to take the 996 out into the fray.

POST 2Original post

Reporting over an inch here in NC.. I drove the Honda Element (woo hoo!) to work today even though the aero kit would have probably held me to the road like glue . No traffic today, so nice!

Medevack - you are one crazy **** taking it out in that kind of blizzard. Godspeed. Hurdi - Are you man enough to take your 996 out in this stuff?

POST 6Original post

I should have a good pic of ours in winter "storage" tomorrow. Last report I heard was a good chance to approach 3 feet

POST 7Original post

We are supposed to get about 15 inches or as the Mrs calls it, 5 penises worth.

POST 8Original post

Calling for anywhere between 6-10 in Northern NJ. Pictures to follow. And I'm taking the Land Rover today. People act like complete morons driving in snow in this state.

POST 9Original post

Sitting here in FL, I love those pics and your "bravery". Grew up in snow country and loved winter/snow driving. Good for you, heading out in the white stuff! Also, your plate is very cool. Hope it's not an indication of the state of the paint work on your beauty. It looks great just as it is!

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 12948944

It even made the news over here ......... A huge blizzard bearing down on the US east coast is expected to dump near-record levels of snow on Washington and the Mid-Atlantic region. More than 50 million people have been warned of a "potentially paralysing storm" late on Friday that will bring 24in (60cm) of snow within hours. There are warnings the blizzard could cause power outages and will bring road and air travel to a halt. A rush for supplies led to long queues and empty shelves at supermarkets. The weather system has already proved to be deadly, with two drivers killed in North Carolina, one in Tennessee and a pedestrian dead in Maryland.

POST 11Original post

No snow yet up in CT. We're supposed to get off easy though. They're only talking about 6-12" by me starting late tonight -- but my baby's locked away in the garage until the weather warms up. Unfortunately, I don't have snow tires for it and having done the "summer tire in the snow" thing before, I can assure you I won't be looking for a reason to do it again. -Eric

POST 13Original post

You Americans get so easily scared by the media. Empty shelves!!! As if this is the end of the World......it's a fricken snow storm that'll pass in a day or so. All you need is beer to get through it. Up here, I can't wait to get more snow so the snowmobile trails can open for the season.

POST 14Original post

Hurdi's 996 has a history of misbehaving in the snow - I doubt he'll be driving around in the white stuff.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 12949058

Single Malt Scotch my friend. No need to keep it cold in case you lose power, and will last a lot longer per sitting.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 12948829

Catt.. I AM man enough NOT to take my 996 out in that kind of stuff. Actually it's not the snow, but the 'black ice' or any kind of ice that scares me. The 996, or any car for that matter, can have the best of winter tires on it and the car will still leave the road under black ice conditions. I experienced that kind of stuff when we were stationed in Germany during the 90s. If any of you crazy posters are taking your 996 into the snow this winter you wont see the ice until it's too late. The road surface appears to be wet and not icy. BEWARE. Better still, stay indoors.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source posts: 12949058, 12949090

Except that neither the drivers nor the road crews know how to deal with it. The DC area got 1" the other evening and it turned the evening commute into a 6 hour ordeal for some. Personally I go with the "if I starve, I starve" approach and skip the whole panicking aspect. Ummm... In this kind of weather if you lose power keeping your beer cold is NOT an issue.

POST 20Original post

Can someone explain the logic of backing a front wheel drive car into it's parking space to prepare for snow? Doesn't that just guaranty the least amount of traction/momentum when trying to get out?

POST 21Original post

They are predicting 1 to 2 feet of snow here tomorrow. I'll post a pic if I take the 996 out.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 12949535

The logic is keeping momentum .....because you don't have to stop going backward, shift into 1st, and then start all over. If there's a plowed area somewhere close, you're hoping to make it there; with a lot of snow and no plowed area, you're screwed either way.

I'm currently on call at a hospital in the northern DC suburbs. The NWS forecast for this location is for 21-33" by midnight tomorrow night. So, realistically, I don't expect to be relieved until Monday at the earliest. When I do, I promise to take a picture of the 996 in the snow.

Hey, where are the updates? We need the inside track. Anybody hit the one foot (4 *****) mark yet?

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Holy crap - just turned on CNN and I'm hit immediately with "85 million in path of storm" and that these affected persons will be in a "life and death struggle" with the storm. I am not exaggerating. Snowmageddon!!! Run (err, slide?) for the hills? It was nice knowing you guys. Helluva way to go. Please leave your keys and maintenance records in a convenient place for us survivors to find when we come in a few weeks after the melt. EDIT: I just learned from CNN that Atlantic City is getting hit with both a high tide AND a full moon at the same time as the storm! Oh man, you guys are soooo screwed!

seriously?... Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the trend?... The hyping of storms and natural kerfuffles is reaching Superbowl proportions... Yeah, but Paul, "85 MILLION PEOPLE WERE LOCKED IN A LIFE-AND-DEATH STRUGGLE WITH WINTER STORM JONAS!!!" At least that's what CNN said on Friday night.

POST 61Original post

Up to 40 degrees in Milwaukee this week. Which means warmth is coming, let's just hope it's not one big melt!

POST 62Original post

Thermometers said it was 40 today here too. It was actually quite pleasant out while moving more snow around this afternoon. Good short sleeve weather while working.

POST 63Original post

Almost have a path cleared to the front door:

POST 64Original post

It's 65 degrees here today. In the midst of the "snowpocalypse" we had some fairly heavy flurries (for here) that melted as soon as it touched anything. We almost never have snow that sticks. We have precipitation that freezes overnight, particularly on bridges. This INSTANTLY turns every driver here into a complete idiot. News reports of coming snow sends everyone to the store to buy milk and bread. If you actually work until 5pm they are completely out of both. Apparently it is a Southern Tradition to eat french toast if it gets cold. I am originally from the Illinois/Wisconsin state line right on Lake Michigan. You can imagine how ridiculous I consider all this to be.

POST 65Original post

Just to be clear guys I in no way mean tend to make light of anyone hurt by this... but real snow to me means having to shovel out the tops of the stop signs... my buddy Neil in his old hometown had the job of driving around every morning when it was bad and spray painting a red blob on the snow bank where the stop sign was buried...screen doors that open into the house and the shovel is kept inside... But I also understand that 5 million people on summer tires in a city that has four snow plows 3000 miles of streets and 40000 acres of parking lots... has potential to shake things up

POST 66Original post

Here's our 5-day forecast. I'm pissed that Thursday will be partly cloudy. Messes up the whole damn week.

POST 71Original post

Here in Charlotte we got about two inches of snow. But then some freezing rain on top of it. The next day it began melting and now with temperatures in the 50s-60s it's pretty much gone. Well as of this morning, the schools are STILL not open. I made it into work fine yesterday in the 996 but yet a school bus can't handle the light dusting of snow along the side of the road. But this is expected living in the south, thankfully it only happens 1-2 times per year so no big deal. And it was great business for grocery stores while it lasted!
