Suggestion

If you used the inline taps but did not cut the wire, you will not have interrupted the circuit, and the Kahtec unit will be bypassed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Porsche is 03,C2 cab. Itried to hookup a third brake light flasher unit but it did not change light. Brake light operates normally. There are 3 wires on flasher, red, blue and black. The light has brown and black. I attached black flasher wire (ground) to black of light wire and red and blue to brown light wire. Kahtec support says that Porsche uses brown for ground and black for hot. So I have it wired backwards? Is this true??? Why the hell would Porsche use brown for ground?? RBC

POST 2Original post

I've found this to be a great brake light addition. Seriously though, Germans have been using brown as ground for decades. It makes sense in the context of "earth" rather than ground...It's just one of those things. Hope you didn't hurt it.

POST 3Original post

When in doubt the Brown wire is always the ground on most EURO vehicles... been that way for years and years...

POST 5Original post

Braun rhymes with Grund..possible. My guess is brown looks like soil/earth.

POST 6Original post

Find a multimeter, set it for 12vDC and test the wires. A digital multimeter will show positive/negative; an analog meter will just peg the needle if you have the polarity wrong. I have the Kahtec unit on my 996 and it works as expected. Did you cut the wire as the Kahtec instructions tell you to? If you used the inline taps but did not cut the wire, you will not have interrupted the circuit, and the Kahtec unit will be bypassed.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes I cut the brown wire. I have been reading this forum for a couple of years and don't recall the brown ground wire being mentioned. Maybe should be posted in things to know about your Porsche. thanks gents I will rewire in about 3 weeks when I get back from Panama. RBC
