Added Eibach sway bars to reduce body roll and recently installed H&R Sport Springs.

I used Bilstein B8s with H&R sport/lowering springs as they are/were designed to be used together.

Suggestion
If you want it more comfortable you'd want to stick a softer damper on it - I don't see why the H&R couldn't be used on stock (new, just in case) dampers.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My C4S has H&R springs (installed by prior owner) and I believe it's nearing the time to refresh the shocks. I've thought about switching to coil overs but 1) I really like the ride height of the H&R springs, 2) I don't foresee needing the adjustability of coilovers, and 3) because of #1 and #2, I don't see the value in the price differential between updating/upgrading the dampeners and going with Bilstein PSS10s or Ohlins coilovers. I've seen too many mixed reviews on the Feal coilovers, so they wouldn't be an option for me.
I'm not much of a track guy other than the occasional autoX and my H&R springs have acquitted themselves handsomely for my needs. So unless there's an overwhelmingly compelling reason to switch to coilovers, what is the collective experience for the best shock absorbers to pair with H&R sport springs?
I used Bilstein B8s with H&R sport/lowering springs as they are/were designed to be used together. The car handled great with them, but was a little stiff/harsh on bad roads.
My 996 is on H&R / Bilstein B8's and it's not a luxury car for sure, but acceptable on all but the worst roads. If you want it more comfortable you'd want to stick a softer damper on it - I don't see why the H&R couldn't be used on stock (new, just in case) dampers. Most European cars are overdamped from the factory and can support stiffer springs.
'04 996.2 with 70k miles bought last year. It had new B4s at about 60k miles. Added Eibach sway bars to reduce body roll and recently installed H&R Sport Springs. If the shocks had not been fairly fresh, I would have gone to B8s. As is, the combo seems to work. However, B8s are the shorter shock made for lowered suspension.
+1 for Koni Actives. They usually go for 20% off around Black Friday. Here's what they look like on my 02 Cab with 10mm spacers.
1.25" H&R lowering springs, 10mm spacer with Koni Actives.
I used to have H&R Sport Springs/B6s on the car. I actually really liked the setup. No complaints and I thought it performed pretty well overall. Then I went to coilovers. The difference is dramatic. The car is simply better in every way. Scroll down in this thread for more, but I highly recommend getting a nice set of coilovers.

Check the bump stops while you're doing the job, as well as the strut top stuff. If you need bump stops be sure to get the ones made for lowered suspension.
I wanted Koni Actives when I did my suspension (RoW M030 springs) but they were in supply chain purgatory at the time, so I went with Koni Yellows. No complaints. The ride is sporty but certainly not punishing, and I have them turned up a bit.
I went with the Koni Sports also on stock springs with Sally...( don't need anything lower when dailying in Bama) ..
According to Koni, the Sports are a half a range stiffer than the Actives, ie. the Sports at the lowest setting is equal to the Actives at mid setting, and the Actives at the highest setting is equal to the Sports at the mid setting...
