Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I used a drop of Dawn on a microfiber cloth that I sprayed with distilled water, and the results were unbelievable.
Leading evidence: 'Use drop of dawn' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean material should do most of the work' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Your cleaning material should do most of the work, but don't go too aggressive with the brush.

Besides using a detergent or cleaner, I would also use a toothbrush to carefully and softly agitate the fibers, wipe the residue, and then rinse with clean water.

I remember using denatured alcohol to remove the visor warning stickers 23 years ago when I first got this car (a 2001 model).

What I might do, is to use thin blue painters' tape to tape over the sunroof felt which I do to cover all other black plastic on the car before polishing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Over the years, the felt around the sunroof opening has accumulated dried on-wax (see attached photos). I tried wiping the felt with Griot's Garage Dried-On Wax Remover with a cloth, with some success. I was wondering what others have used for this problem. I guess the felt is better than rubber for this area as it doesn't dry up and crack like rubber but it does retain dried-on wax very easily.
You need to soften the wax residue, so try some WD40. If WD40 doesn't soften it, (it should) start with the mildest and get more aggressive. So, plain water first. If water doesn't soften the wax, then soap and water. Then try denatured or isopropyl alcohol (test carefully); alcohol removes just about every thing, however it might remove the dye in the black felt, so go slowly. Then try 3m adhesive remover.
Thanks. So, after the wax residue is softened, do I just wipe the the felt? How about Blue Coral interior cleaner? I'll try doing what you suggested. I have all of the items you mention, except maybe denatured alcohol, which is readily available at hardware stores. I remember using denatured alcohol to remove the visor warning stickers 23 years ago when I first got this car (a 2001 model).
I see that you owned two Porsches for 45 years and 48 years, respectively. That's really something. I'm the original owner of my car, and I don't know how long I'll keep it. If I try to beat your record, I'd have to keep it another 25 years, and I'm not sure I'll be driving at that point. As one of my friends said (who is a couple of years older than me), "will I even be alive in 25 years?"

I used a drop of Dawn on a microfiber cloth that I sprayed with distilled water, and the results were unbelievable. I wiped off the area with a dry microfiber cloth before everything dried back on. It was so quick and easy. Here are some pictures after I finished. Take a look at the first set of pictures (first post) which I took after using Griot's Garage Dried-On Wax Remover. There's a world of difference. Thanks everyone for your advice.
The advice that some others here have offered is solid. Your use of Dawn and distilled water seems to have worked very well for you. You discovered that dried wax is not very obstinate, so using the mildest products is always the best. So, just remember to keep wax off the felt and when you do get some on, wipe it off immediately. This way, your car will still look great 25 years from now.
It's hard to keep the paint cleaner, polish and wax off the sunroof felt when you're using an orbital buffer as I do. If you're polishing the car by hand, it's much easier. What I might do, is to use thin blue painters' tape to tape over the sunroof felt which I do to cover all other black plastic on the car before polishing. I remove the wiper blades, and tape over the wiper arms and black plastic cowl at the bottom of the windshield. I had the rear bumperettes painted in body color, so I don't have to worry about those. They always looked chalky before I had them painted body color.
