Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I've been really focusing my search in the last month. I'm really starting to believe that there's a chance my dream could become a reality. This car is a beautiful color combo out of Brooklyn NY. A vin search indicated that it was for sale on BaT but didn't sell due to what appeared to be lack of seller communication and honestly I'm experiencing that same thing on my end as well. Maybe that should be all I need to know, but anyhow the price and options are attractive. I was able to contact the dealership in Houston where the car appeared to taken care of fairly well. I also was finally able to get the dealership in NY to send me a video and that is the main reason for this post. I hear a distinct tapping sound, it sounds quite loud over the exhaust, but I am far from an expert on these matters. Would you all be willing to weigh in as to weather it is worth exploring further or probably best to walk away? I know the video isn't the longest or the best. 04 C2 Video Thanks much, Chris

When I first looked at the video you attached in the description, not only do I hear a ticking noise that highly likely piston slap associated with cylinder bore scoring, I also noticed the hood is NOT sitting flush. Apparently, buckled from a front impact. This was confirmed when I reviewed the CarFax: You can also see from the BaT auction, the paint is not matched either. (notice the lighter blue section) You can also see the hood line is raised. Very common with front end collisions. The next two images show that the leather was replaced on the driver side and water/oil stains on the carpet. This could point to water ingress that not only flooded the car, but also damaged the driver side seat. The leather install was definitely sub-standard. The no-start issues noted in the service history report may be connected to this problem. The car is being listed for $21,995 at a small independent dealer. (see image below) Do you have a good sense these people would care is the car turns out to be a lemon? Remember, the cheapest Porsche you buy, can become the MOST expensive to own. Personally, I would pass on this car. Too many red flags and what ifs.

POST 3Original post

This right HERE (notice below) as noted in the CarFax should enough of a red flag to move on... The 6th owner bought it on Dec 11, 2023, then traded it in at Porsche of Houston just three weeks later in Jan 2024. Porsche of Houston did NOT put it on their lot; but instead, auctioned it off one day later. Obviously, they knew it was NOT a vehicle they'd want to sell. Do you follow me???

POST 5Original post

Chris, I can't clearly hear the clicking. If this is the car, VIN : WP0AA29904S621683 , I would pass. 6 previous owners and a mostly non-existent service record for the first 4 owners. The picture of the engine bay shows red tape around the oil filler tube which means whoever was caring for it, tried to get away without buying a replacement, which the next owner will surely have to do. Also, from the BaT listing, it looks like it is leaking oil. The price is good, but the least expensive Porsche is a temporary matter.

WOW, thank you all so much. You definitely confirmed my suspicions. Sad, the color combo is gorgeous and unique. Zuffen, thanks for taking the time to put your case together, I'd buy you a beer if I could. 996 I'm in CT myself. West Hartford
