Using a high quality cable isn't going to cause issues IMO (I think you can go like 10' before having to worry about that with USB cables).

Not sure of any shops in LA, but I have seen people use a longer usb cable for the breakout box to relocate to the glove box.

Posted this over in the audio thread too for visibility. Hi hoping someone can recommend a shop that can replace the cable on the breakout box, was looking to replace the cable with something longer to route to the storage cubby behind the parking brake. Anyone know a shop in Los Angeles, South Bay that could do this? So being old school, I have just read the install guide : the cable can�t exceed 50cm due to data quality issues. So that has put a stop to that project. thx.

I did the install myself is it was really pretty easy and rewarding. Not sure of any shops in LA, but I have seen people use a longer usb cable for the breakout box to relocate to the glove box. Using a high quality cable isn't going to cause issues IMO (I think you can go like 10' before having to worry about that with USB cables). Looking back, I wish I used a longer cable as the one provided does not leave much room to wiggle things around when reassembling with the breakout box in the pocket below. There are videos on YT with step by step instructions.

Is there a particular reason why you want to do the extension? I guess is to plug the phone in and hide it in the storage box near handbrake? While I agree that the Porsche suggested location for the box stinks because it renders the storage compartment next to useless I just ended up stuffing mine in the space behind the HVAC controls and hooked up a wireless transmitted which has worked perfectly fine for Android Auto. I use the other USB port to power my dash cam which turns on and off with the radio.

Another idea is to have a shop modify the batwing to mount the USB box which I did in mine. I think it looks very OEM like and didn't require extending the cabling though my indy said the length of the cabling made it a bit challenging. Of course, I only had two toggle switches so there was space to mount and paint. Good luck!
