Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

We are in the process of starting rebuilds on four M96.03 "3.6" engines from 2002-2004 996's and plan to share the details in this thread and future threads.
Over the last year we have worked closely with engine parts suppliers, as well as an ultra-specialized local machinist to help carry out the measuring, machining and installation of wet sleeves.
We will document the build starting with the machining and sleeve installation process. For now, the sleeves are installed and sit within one thousandth of an inch at the top of the case halve. Our goal is to minimize/eliminate machining needs and get the measurements as close as possible the first time
. Further measurement findings will be shared in future posts.
More details to come.
I just had my M96.05 engine rebuilt by Black Forest Racing, Denver, NC. The block was sent off to get the Nickasil treatment due to scoring. They also had the pistons treated with Calico treatment on the pistons. I have put about 350 miles on the engine this week and it runs fantastic.
Thats great you had an engine rebuilt. Id love to learn more about the details in a dedicated thread about your build. The more experiences shared on this forum, the better.
Not sure I understand what you are saying. We'll post the other case-halve in future updates, showing the access and use of the LN Engineering wrist pin installation tool.
Next step....cleaning. Degrease, Ultrasonic, and ColdJet!
Thank you for this thread. And for taking the time and energy to document and share the learning experience.
I know that I'll be doing this to mine in the future. Looking forward to seeing what you find out!
Thx again and be encouraged!
@Quadcammer
- that looks to be the Bank 1 half in
@YYCporsche
's OP and those valleys are on the original design. It's bank 2 that has the port holes for the wrist pins and circlip tool to pass through.
Slowly but surely well get it all documented for this particular engine. It will be full disclosure, including process for machining, honing, and sleeve installation. In addition, we will share our parts experience and why we recommend to replace while the engine is out.
