Suggestion
Consider a carbon fiber piece for the 996 that can replace the center on our decklid.

or design one that is relocated to the front near the radiators or perhaps making the center radiator smaller and having expansion tank near it so that could be removed and installed without all the excitement of replacing the current nightmare.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey Everyone!
As we start focusing a bit more on the watercooled 911s, the 996 platform has grabbed our attention as these are becoming (for the time being) the gateway 911 for first time Porsche owners. We have been expanding our product line for the 996 and have some very cool new products on the market like our CF mirrors and door card arm rests. This is a good start and have other products on the way. As always, we would love to hear what the 996 crowd has for new product ideas! After all, we are here to make this cool stuff for you as well as ourselves! Fire Away!
although I made one myself, a carbon or aluminum dash delete plate for people building race cars and not needing the vents/radio/hvac is something I don't think anyone makes.
Not terribly hard to make, but takes a lot of time to do well at home.
How about something to make use of all those blank-out plugs where switches would normally go? Like usb or micro usb plugs in those slots?
Or illuminated door sills?
Or brake handles?
Or illuminated shifter trim for tiptronics?
I'm VERY happy with my Rennline CF mirrors!
That was a homerun!
More CF please!!!
The plastic cowl around the windshield wipers sure would look nice in carbon fiber!!!
Please make door card padded armrests so I can get rid of the gel pad I attached via double sided tape to my arm rest. Oh... and please don't make them $300 each because it's a 911.
Thanks!
For 996.2...
GT-3 style front bumper
Brake cooler kit to go with the bumper
skirts
different taco wings for the rear
under front bumper lip
High quality Porsche center caps
All need to be super high quality, primed, no cutting required.
Anything carbon for the interior. OEM carbon is insanely difficult to find but vents, center consoles, arm rests, gauge surrounds, and the like look incredible.
A phone mount that is compatible with a GT3 console delete.
Yes, they replace the entire painted piece.
Very easy to do.
It took me less than 10 minutes to do both of them.
Theyre also a LOT cheaper than the ones from Porsche!
They match my carbon fiber wing perfectly!
On the 40AE and Turbos, with the larger radiators, there is an unprotected radiator bib at the bottom of the front spoiler. This has caused several cars to fracture the bib when a cone is struck ‘just wrong’ during driving events (footage of the failure at an autocross is somewhere on Rennlist)… There have been several attempts to build radiator guards for this- a sturdy, lightweight guard would be useful for Turbo and AE owners who autocross and DE their cars. Thanks.
Glad to hear our CF mirrors were a hit! We have more CF stuff on the way for sure! I love the idea of a CF cowl!
Thanks for the response everyone! The engineers have their eyes on this thread with itchy CAD fingers! Keep it coming!
Correct. Something that mounts onto the upper dash maybe.
also that part number brings me to the mount for an aircooled car... jeez way to make me feel worse about 996 ownership
Affordable carbon pieces that are also good quality would definitely be good sellers. All of the current carbon parts for 996s are astronomically expensive.
Some ideas:
Center console
Stereo surround horseshoe
Door sills
Door handles (interior and exterior)
Bumperettes (or carbon bumperette delete panel)
Shift *****
Rain tray
I would love it if function first would start making the center tunnel lift kit to accommodate the shifter housing riser kit.
i also would love to see what NY showed! Thats super clean!
CF sunroof delete.
CF 1/4 window replacement, easy in / out.
Nice brake duct kit
Trans cooler
Front and rear lightweight crash bars with tow hooks
Vents with cut outs for 52MM gauges
A spin on oil filter adapter with 2 1/8 NPT ports
GT2 center rad kit with chimney
Short gear sets and F/D for the G96
Jack raby said it was the only box to use if you want to upgrade I believe
so a carbon fiber version will not only look good but do good as well
many 996 and 997 are out there
I would second a phone mount for those of us with a center console delete. I would also be a buyer for a climate control relocation kit so I can run a double din PCCM.
10000% a gt3 center console delete, seems that theyre on indefinite back order and will likely not become available from Porsche in the near future (or ever) Would be especially awesome if you found a way to make your existing phone Mount work with a Rennline console delete as well, perhaps even add a harness to split the cigarette lighter plug wiring into the console delete to add a usb or usb-c output for charging
Liking this thread a lot. I wouldn't mind certain suggestions also being available NOT in carbon fiber. Weight savings is marginal and adds substantial amount to the cost as CF and production with it ain't cheap. A lot of CF bits are actually laid by hand into the molds. Appreciate Rennline taking more initiative in the 996 platform but this only works if we buy all this stuff.
As for me, I'd like to see some more options for front lips/splitters for regular and turbo style bumpers. ABS plastic or polyurethane is good with me! I don't want to be replacing a $800 front lip!
Great to see the interesting ideas in this thread - potentially a big market for hot rod type products for the 996 line.
Would love to see a lightweight door panel - like your RS panels

but for the 996
here's a couple examples found online:
My response:
1.)
Carbon fiber or aluminum constructed radiator expansion tank to finally end the infamous leaking plastic spit...., spit...... tank..... or design one that is relocated to the front near the radiators or perhaps making the center radiator smaller and having expansion tank near it so that could be removed and installed without all the excitement of replacing the current nightmare.
2.)
Silicone hose kits, one for the engine area and the other for the radiators, and an auxiliary kit for the center radiator and offer them in colors besides black.
3.)
Carpet kits that offer factory and other colors, a lightweight carpet kit, and quality adhesives.
4.)
Replacement frunk and engine lid levers made of aluminum to replace those easily scratched and destroyed levers of the early 996's
5.)
Auxillary oil cooler or a more efficient cooler considering that the current versions are of the twenty-year engineering concept
Agree with all. Heck, all of us are generally looking for a way to update the interior so anything you can produce would be helpful.
Doors, center console, lower console, instruments.
Another thought, but I don't have the skills to make a design recommendation is to think about the 2016 911 R, which did an interesting thing with the engine lid, they made the center piece black. It actually looked very cool. Consider a carbon fiber piece for the 996 that can replace the center on our decklid. Haven't seen a computer driven mock-up on a 996, so dont know how it would look, but it looks good on the 911 R. It may be a nice compliment to other carbon fiber parts you sell now for the exterior and may be producing in the future.
Thanks for reaching out to us.
I have another idea not carbon fiber or it could be be a coolant overflow tank in carbon or aluminum would great more permanent solution for a weak aftermarket product
My console delete has a built-in phone mount: I tuck the bottom edge of my phone into the gap at the front edge of the plastic trapezoid trim piece. Then lean the phone against the carpeted face of the delete panel.
iPhone 6S has stayed put through inappropriate street maneuvers; turn it 'upside down' if you need to charge as you go-- the plug practically works as a pin to the carpet. Best of all, there's not a trace of the mount unless you're using it!
I think we are both on the same page here.....something better than the current plastic
coolant expansion tank or design one that is relocated to the front near the radiators... perhaps having the expansion tank accessed through the front bumper area and also design a smaller front radiator to work in concert. At least it could be removed and installed by removing the front bumper and would open up the area around the rather warm engine.
Cant put the resi lower then the motor without a significant rework of the system. Its location is fine if its designed correctly to be removed with the motor in or made of a material ljke aluminum so it doesnt need replacing.
DeJeeper, good point on the placement of the coolant expansion tank. However, I would like to get one of these factory types of covers that might be padded maybe with some magnetics added and soft enough which are now NLA.
That's my car in the above pic and it's called a "service cover", part #
PNA50599600. I found it NOS on Ebay for around $60.00. There was a guy in Oregon that said he could duplicate them but he needs one to use as a pattern.
They made one for the front seat too. I can dig up the part number, but I think it's NLA too.
How about carbon fiber instrument trim rings instead of brushed or polished aluminum....or the entire fascia that is usually black that surrounds the instruments with a choice between gloss and matte..
Howzabout a handle, or pull, mounted just above the window on the drivers side like every other car in the world.
I mean, how much can one of those weigh?
I thought a customizable decal that could be applied to the spoiler bellow might be interesting. Surprise message at speed.
Carbon fiber really anything. Im surprised at the lack of, what Id call show car parts offered for the 996. Coming from the corvette world, there is a plethora of billet oil, coolant, steering fluid, etc. caps available. While not my cup of tea, 90% of the vettes had them.
Colored carbon fiber emblems and badging may be kinda neat.
Id also like to see someone develop a tested and proven intake manifold, not just a plenum.
How about an oil temperature gauge that plugs into the dme. One that is small enough to velcro to somewhere on the dash or steering column that can be added for track day and removed after.
That's very cool.
Also I bet just about every '99 owner would be interested in aluminum latches for the frunk and engine lid as every single one of them are scratched
Uhh I think I missed a memo or something, the carbon fiber center console delete is available for those that are interested.

Bought mine awhile back so not too sure now.
They are still an active part number but it doesn't come as a kit you need to buy the two parts separately I.e the console and then the centre console cap
Something Im working on next is a modern manual look tip lever, latest Gt3RS has a ball type with release button on top and alcantara shift boot .
good market out there Id say
If you can get some people to sign up, I can get it done in a few months - just need a copy of the original gurney flap if there is one, or we make a plastic prototype first before making tooling to mold carbon fiber.
Earlier this year, I saw a seller on Aliexpress selling all the hoses for a tip C4. In the product description, I remember they said you could message them to have hoses made for other models, but you'd have to mail them all your original hoses to copy them. They'd give you a discount if they thought the model would be popular enough to sell a few sets of hoses.
I know this is very far-fetched ... how about a custom dash more in-line with classic Porsches like the 993?
I'm sure this would be huge money and I don't know the feasibility of designing and producing something like this, but it's something I dream about from time to time
I dont know if its been discussed but a nice upgrade would be a light weight door card similar to what Cargraphic made at some point but have been long discontinued.
The most important piece is the flat door panel but the small parts(door pull, lock release) can be sourced from other P cars.
Preferably with a suede or micro suede cover, and stitching color options.
A *good* cupholder. The 3D printed turd I bought that replaced the ash tray goes flying whenever I put something in it and take a turn.
I'm still hoping for some kind of interior lighting, the more I drive my Golf and get into the 911 the more I miss the lighting at night
Floating hat brake rotors for non-turbo cars that don't cost Girodisc money.
Door bin lids and interior door handle covers in something other than carbon.
