Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just bought a 2000 996 C4 Cabriolet this week. While inspecting the engine compartment I found this bolt (photo) in the rear area of the engine compartment. Can anyone tell me where it goes?

That would be your air cleaner hold-down bolt, you must have an aftermarket air cleaner installed...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's correct. The car has the Evolution V-Flow filter. Mystery solved. Thanks Dr. h.c. Porschetech3!

POST 4Original post

You have this https://www.evoms.com/product_p/intkvffltr.htm Since that is really a "hot engine compartment air intake", it is not an upgrade and may cause engine problems. Over time it has been determined the best air intake for our cars is the OEM style air filter box with cold air intake. Our cars were tuned to the original air intake.

That's not a badly designed unit. Unlike the junk from some other vendors, it pulls air down from the same spot as the stock intake, and it keeps the MAF sensor in the same spot as the stock intake. It probably only adds noise and not power, but it's not horrible. Use a dry filter on it, not one of those oiled messy things, and it shouldn't do any harm. That said, yeah, if you want to spend money on an intake, get a factory 997.1 3.8 intake. They improve the looks at least!
