Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just drove 2 hours home from visiting someone to receive this picture and message. Does anyone recognise that as being part of a 996? Bear in mind that if it is then I drove home without it and the car felt ok.

POST 2Original post

Looks like it may be the lower part of your front coil spring. Its about that size

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, so I think Ive found the issue

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Funnily enough just this morning I was talking about potentially lowering the car. I told the guy Id consider doing that the next time it needed any suspension work. Little did I know that at that very moment a piece of the suspension was literally on the ground under the car! So, time for a set of H&R springs?

POST 6Original post

Depending on mileage, springs, struts, strut mounts, control arms and sway bar links. If you are going to lower it m, you will need is aligned, so making sure the rest is good is a smart idea. The other parts may be in golf condition, but with the looks of the spring maybe not.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Agreed. The cars at 70k miles. Ill get them to check the whole thing and see what else needs doing. It actually had its MOT last week and passed!

Depends. If your research tells you H&R suits your needs, yes. Eibach, H&R, Swift, M030, etc provide different lowering and ride characteristics. Springs are relatively cheap but the labor and effort to install or remove is a pain if you dont get the results you want first go.

POST 9Original post

Go coilovers and be done with it. You decide on the ride height not the springs. Glad you found the problem quickly.

POST 10Original post

Tristan or others I have a set of original springs with 25-30k miles on them off my 2002 C2 that i am about throw out. They have been sitting in storage since 2007 when I put on my bilstein coilovers. If anyone wants them they are free. You just have to pay for shipping. My zip code is 60187 in IL. Just PM me if anyone needs them. Ill give Tristan first call then all others. If not, they are going in the trash.

POST 11Original post

Replace strut tops and bearings and bump stops and all of the rest of the soft bits while you are in there.
