Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm changing from plain old Michelin Pilot Sports to 4S' later this week. The temperature warning on the 4S' says that if you let them cold soak at 20 F overnight, not to move them until they've been 43 F or more for 24 hours. So what about driving them? My garage is kept around 65 F, but what if I head out and it's 29 F, and I go tooling around for a few hours. Can I do that? Am I just being silly?

POST 2Original post

Eh you're being silly If you have your garage temp controlled its a non issue. Tires are kind of like oil in some regards. They work best once warmed up. So just treat it like that. Don't go hooning around on cold tires just like you wouldn't till the car is warmed up. Are they going to crack on you in cold? Nope - unless they're crazy old.

POST 3Original post

If you head out at 29F on ps4s they'll grip as well as hockey pucks. They really aren't intended for cold weather operation. That said I've taken out my car in spring weather when its ~40F and make sure I let the tires warm up thoroughly before pushing it.

POST 4Original post

I leave my car in the garage anytime it's under 40F outside. (I'm also running Pilot Sport 4S) Luckily where we live, that's not very many days during the winter.

It's probably to prevent the risk of cracks as that temp is (close to) the compund's glass temperature.
