I noticed that the pin 17 was "empty" before the ground line was put in, which left me a little puzzled as the instructions said it was the DSP cable originally in that spot.

The PCCM Plus installation guide for the 996 Bose non-most system with PCM1 unit.
I have the Bose analog MY2002 system (NOT MOST) in my 2002 996 Turbo.
The Bose system includes:
PCM1 unit - in the coupe
Navigation DVD unit - in the coupe
Bose [phone removed].00 AMP unit - in the frunk, next to the spare wheel
The PCM1 unit sends high level output to the Bose amp in the frunk.
In my case the 996.645.338.00 amp.
- The Bose amp unit takes the high level and amplify it to the speakers.
So when installing the PCCM+ I had no use of the fiber optic components included in the kit.
Here is whats included in the kit.
Also a short youtube video - of everything

Next page..
Everything was pretty straight forward..
1: I removed dashboard bracket with the buttons for the PSM, window viper, door lock.. et.c.
start at the bottom corner with a plastic removal tool and work around it.
2: Removed the center vent (two clips over it).
This was hard to remove, but with some force it worked out.
3: Removed the 4 torx screws holding the bracket with the PCM unit and cup holder
this is needed to install the new unit.
4: Removed all connections on the old unit.
The two connectors (blue and black) - which has no connections on the new unit - is for the AC and Navigation, so these will not be used again, but i just showed them in behind everything.
5: Prepared the FM/DAB adaptors and had to swap a connector on my antenna to use both FM and DAB
new unit is only FAKRA connector for FM, DAB and GPS (I did not install the gps antenna because I will use Carplay and didnt want to make the cable management for the gps)
6: Installing the new unit - was pretty easy...
Connect ISO BLACK - Power
Connect ISO BROWN - Speaker output
Connect connection BLUE/GREEN/YELLOW - AMP switch on (only the yellow adapter will be used here)
Connect all FAKRA - FM, DAB in my case (via FM/DAB unit included in kit)
Heres a picture of the
old unit
with its plugs, NUMER I & II is not connected to the new unit.
- this are for the old navigation and hands free system

7: Starting up the unit
And no sound..so here my headache started.. I got into some forums and came to conclusion that the wire (red/black) on the yellow adaptor was the one sending switch power to the AMP unit in the frunk.. but nothing happened.
So i made a bypass and gave the switch cable 12v from the 12v lighter connection to test if it worked.. And yes, we had sound.. but the gain was really high, volume *** level 1 was like half volume before and there was very high noise level in the system.
So the next day I contacted Porsche and got a tip that you have to set the
PCCM Plus unit in AMP mode if you dont have the MOST-system
This is done if you go into the settings menu and hold the VOLUME symbol on the display for aprox 10 seconds. Now I got amp switch power without bypassing the yellow adaptor.

Still noise and high gain on the volume
So after some research I ordered an ISO adapter with resistance for high gain to amp. This is a common problem on other cars when using after market stereo with OEM Amp
Basically this adapter takes down the output volume from the new head unit.
This sorted out everything and now it works perfect.
There are several variants of this

Super post.
Can you measure the height and width of the face of the unit and tell me what it is in mm?
I have this theory that it is a standard size used in Volkswagen and Audis of the time.
Interesting post!
Can you explain what did you do in step number 5 cause I couldnt connect fm aerial of the car to the new device, please?
thanks in advance
Nice write up!
In two minds about this mod as my 996 is my analogue car it does have a CDR23 + Bluetooth auto but it does look like it fits very nicely into the 996 interior
Hi. Would you happen to have the OEM installation guide for the PCCM Plus? Don't want to get into the install and mess something up as I have never done anything like this before.
Nick
Looking at getting this for my 996. If I understand correctly you are not using the GPS antenna that comes with the unit but rather can access GPS data from your phone? I heard a rumour somewhere that the map data is "sold separately."
I am really excited about getting this for my 996. Does anyone know if the PCCM+ is available for purchase in the US yet? If not, any projections on when it will be available?
Hi All,
Guess I spoke too soon. After driving to the dealer. Seems to be that only the PCCM (small unit) is being sold in the United States. The PCCM Plus is only being sold in Europe. At least that is what I'm being told by the dealer. I guess I will look into it further. So I am being given a refund.
Also the Map memory stick is $150.00, if anyone is curious.
If anyone has any heard anything else I'd love to find out what exactly is being sold in this country.
George
Both units are advertised as being available via dealers in Australia, though I don't think any have made it here yet.
There is apparently a bug you 'Murkins will love... in navigation, the display in the dash reads the units in miles but the displayed number is always kilometres. So if the display on the PCCM says left turn in 2.0 miles, the display in the dash will say 3.2 miles! Probably get fixed with an update before too long, or maybe that and a few other bugs are why they're delaying launch in the US?
I'd love one but $3kau is too much for me. I wouldn't mind doing the console delete anyhow, in which case I could just get a conti unit but I have MOST and Bose so it will snowball into replacing the whole stereo system which ironically would then probably cost about the same as a PCCM+.
Has anyone heard any updates on availability of the single-DIN version in the US?
Edit: This isn't compatible with the 996, is it?

Eh, sorry, this page clearly states that 986/996 versions are being reviewed for US release at a later date:

We'll add the 986/996 version to
this page
on our site the moment if/when we get word it's released for US sale! We'll also post an announcement on this site in the vendor's section!
Look forward to read a full review of the new PCCM+ system. I am very keen to get one, it totally transforms the 996 interior. My only concern and question if i will be able to connect this unit to my porsche cdc4 cd changer as well as the max card capacity it can handle. I have lots of music in my sd cards and 2 ipods but still have 500cds that for some stupid reason still like to use.... Connect via the aux???

Guys, I have 2 questions:
1) ISO adapter with resistance for high gain to amp - is that this one on the pic that should work? In the link the adapter is different ->
https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod1...cts2-CTTPO001/
2) if anyone has his PCCM+ mounted in Porsche Center in a car with PCM1, Bose, without fiber optic?
I am curious about because I have a problem with volume gain and static noise (unit was mounted by Porsche Center).
Moreover as I know the guys very well, only solution which they found for the moment and probably should work is that thread here
Two questions for you:
1) where did you find the instructions re: switching to Amp via holding down the Volume button for 10s? I just read the included instruction manual, but could not find that info. I am looking to specifically change the setting to LINE level from SPEAKER level. Do you happen to know where I could find info like that?
2) after installing the PCCM+ into my 996, I ran into the same issue you did--high gain and volume despite switching to Amp. Where exactly did you plug that ISO adapter? I am trying to figure out what it could connect to.
Installed the PCCM Plus in my 2000 Boxster S with little to no problems. Sounds and features are a definite upgrade and shows how bad the door speakers are. I had previously upgraded the other speakers. However, after the first drive - got this message on the screen when I try to go to Settings to finish the set up and the car is NOT moving -
"Traffic Safety - For safety reasons, some functions are only available when the vehicle is stationary"
. The unit thinks the car is moving and its not! I can't access Settings! Any idea how to resolve?
Just finished replacing my porsche CDR23 with the new PCCM plus. While it ultimately turned out fine, the lack of instructions and clear notification you will need to purchase a new storage cubby to fit in the higher console slot after you reposition the AC controls can delay the process (I recommend you
not
buy the porsche cubby and instead purchase the $30
Metra Dash
kit that comes with the correct cubby size from Amazon or Best Buy (model 99-9605B). It fit perfectly and also provided a thin surround for the AC controls vs. having to use another trim piece. The Porsche cubby is approx $80. The Metra Looks identical to the porsche cubby.
I have the Bose Most systems so once I connected the DAC and cables supplied the sound was great from the start. (the PCCM Plus is a 45Watt per channel head unit so its actually more powerful that the bose AMP that came with the car. I also installed a SiriusXM receiver ($49 from Best Buy) that you will need to purchase if you want XM stations.
If you install yourself you will need to cut off some of the tabs on the existomer console mount to fit the Double DIN PCCM Plus into the previous (2) single Din slots. The only other issue I has was t
he cables for the USB block are too short
to make an easy connection to the unit once you install them. I ran the cables the shortest distance and still they were too short to connect easily.
Lastly the GPS and XM Antennas were mounted under the plastic trim in front of the windshield and I ran both cables through the 3 inch unused rubber gasket hole right behind the battery (remove the battery to access) that comes out inside the car right above the brake pedal. The are out of sight and the signal strength for both is great. I am very happy with the outcome and the sound is obviously much better than a 17 year old radio.
Test fitting the unit prior to finishing the install.
Completed install...
I installed the GPS antenna puck and the Sirius antenna puck in the same spot on opposite sides of the car to avoid and potential interference. (see photo where finger is pointing). Both signals easily penetrate the plastic and I have full signals from both. I ran the cables from the pucks through the unused rubber 2.5 inch plug behind the battery to gain easy access to the cabin of the car. The rubber plug comes out right above the break pedal to give you a clear path to the back of the radio. The location of the plug is right behind finger picture #2. You will need to poke a hole in the rubber plug ams penetrate the thin insulation pad.
Taped the GPS puck here. Double sided auto tape with top of puck facing up. Sirius puck is in same place on opposite side of car.
Location of rubber plug to gain access to the cabin
Both the pucks are magnetized ( pretty strong too) so you can mount them to any piece of flat metal that has a clear path the the sky that does not go through metal. I had read other people them right under the plastic and it worked fine. MUCH easier than removing inside trip and pillar pieces and installing them inside the cabin.
toom me a total of 30 minutes to install both the the radio.
Yes, the Sirius receiver fits easily in the shelf provided as part of the PCCM plus kit. Plea to of room for the DAC converter and a he Sirius receiver.
tape both down with double sided tape.
The location for the factory PCM 1&2 antenna was right under the middle of the front windshield where the flashing security light is located on the dash. There is a black plastic cover that pops off, and a space for the antenna. I am not sure that the PCCM + gps antenna is the same form factor as the original factory PCM antenna.
I will be getting the new radio soon and have some questions. My car is a 1999 with the factory hifi option. In this case the hifi panel will have to be discarded to install the a/c panel there. Will this be a plug and play installation or are there any tips I should know about.
Thanks in advance
Thank you for this installation guide which I used to help me install my new PCCM+ in my 2000 996 replacing the old PCM system. But I am not totally successful yet. Everything is working except the sound. My old PCM did not use the brown ISO cable for the speakers so I assume my AMP is connected via the yellow blue connector cables. I did enable the CAN for AMP on and I did power off and on, but still no sound from the radio or from car play or the voice for nav. Anyone, help! thanks.
Did disconnecting the battery ever fix this for you? I'm having the same problem when trying to install, and I've tried everything it seems (including disconnecting the battery), and it still seems to think my car is moving....
Try depinning pin#1 of the black 8-pin ISO plug. This is a speedometer feed from the instrument cluster, used to auto-adjust the volume as the car drives faster. It's shown as a grey/pink wire on my wiring diagrams.
From what I can tell, my plug does not have that pin to begin with. Only 6 (rather than 7, as your wiring diagram seems to show) of the pins are filled.
That said, I de-pinned the grey/pink wire from the amplifier plug connector, but that didn't do anything (including after resetting the battery once more, etc.).
Any other ideas? Thanks!
-----
Pictures below to show the 8-Pin ISO plug, without any grey/pink wire:
Correct. I already wired the ground line into the amplifier. I did plug in the GPS antenna as well (although I'm not exactly planning on using the Porsche GPS as opposed to Google Maps). But unless I missed something while wiring those, it didn't seem to fix the issue.
Ok, so I assume you followed the Porsche technical instructions posted on the other thread? Could you please post a very clear picture of the factory cables in your system. I assume they are no different than any other PCM1 system of this era.
Here's the deal, unless we find out otherwise, you may need to plan to wire the speaker level output via the supplied connector B (brown connector) of the PCCM+ to the analog output that feeds your amplifier.
Thanks -- No clue what I did, but it somehow resolved itself. I didn't change anything, but when I went back, I got into settings and made the change. Stereo and carplay work perfectly now...
Of course, I think I killed my batter while doing it, since now the car won't turn over, and just clicks while the lights flash. Time to go jump it, and possible replace the battery too, I guess....
Turns out, I think something in the radio is draining the battery. It was consistently dying, even after 8 hours or so. I charged the battery up, unhooked it, and let it sit for two days -- and now it's fine. So, I think there's something causing some power draw from the PCCM+. Any ideas on what it might be? Or will I need to just pull it out, and try re-wiring everything in hopes that fixes it?
Are you sure it is turning off? There is a timer you can set so the unit will turn off in x number of minutes after turning off the ignition switch. Also, put an amp meter in series with the battery to see if you are getting current draw after you shut everything down.
Interesting. I'm actually not entirely sure, but I'll take a look in the settings and see if that might be the culprit. As for the amp meter, I'll need to buy one first (which from what I've seen, is a pretty necessary thing with a 996tt)... Thanks!
Another thing is that the ignition switch has a contact that's supposed to show if the key is inserted. If this contact goes bad, the car thinks the key is always inserted and won't power down completely.
You can check: turn the car on, the turn it off and leave the key in the ignition. Open the door and the screen should show "Ignition key not removed". Pull the key out and the message should go away.
Also, if you didn't re-train the windows auto up/down you might try that.
Installation on my USA 2003 996 turbo with PCM2 and MOST was very straightforward. Reused the existing GPS and FM antenna connections. Installed the new microphone; apparently the existing one is not compatible. Didn't need the FM antenna adaptor (911.645.574.55) or fiber optics MOST bridge (996.42.585.00) which are included. The kit didn't have the diversity antenna connectors and DAB receiver which are for RoW only. I put the multimedia interface box in the glove compartment, and ran a 6ft iPhone cable to the center console. I removed the really old iPod in the frunk and left the iPod adapter alone.
The FM antenna plugs right in. The existing antenna side is black, the PCCM+ side is white. The adaptor is for a 3.5mm type plug.
I don't have the factory CD player, but I have an iPod adaptor. All I did was unplug my 2004 Apple iPod.
Derek and Jim at Sound in Motion, Watertown, MA have built many audio installations for me over the years. They are very creative, and most of their customers prefer that their installations look like they came from the factory.
If you want a custom batwing, give them a call for a price. I'm not sure exactly how much mine cost because it was lumped in as part of the total installation.
Sounds like you didn't need to do any re-pinning or grounding at the harness in the frunk? I too have a 2003, but with NAV and a CD changer. Hoping for a plug and play...
Another option for the USB box:
You Tube
I had a thought about being able to somehow hook up a rear camera using one on the USB ports for this, but not sure if some sort of interface is needed. Maybe someone with some know how can chime in?
On Suncoast it says not compatible but does anyone know if the single din unit will work in the 996? I am sure dimensions are off as well as connectors in the back.
I'd personally much rather have the single din vs the double. I am about to remove an aftermarket screen in mine and thought about putting the original radio in and relocating climate back up top and getting a GT3 delete for the bottom.
https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUCLASSIC.html
I finally received the double din conversion parts and was able to get mine in, inspired by the batwing install for the multimedia box. Not as OEM looking but it works.
Wow.... perhaps reset the unit by unplugging the battery and reconnecting. Aside from a bad unit, I would triple check your wiring. Maybe just have the basics plugged in to see if you can get the menus working.
It might help people to list what year car and with most (fiber) or not.
I believe
Celbrett's suggestions are on the right path. Hard power cycle, unplug multimedia interface, attennas, MOST control unit, eject sd card/map. Also charge up the battery.
Let us know if you found a solution. Good luck!
Question - Did you have any modifications to the factory wiring? Anything at all?
If not, then I'd be on the phone with the vendor that sold you the unit and copy the YouTube video to them and explain the problem. This appears to be a faulty unit straight out of the box. Happens.
The PCCM+ unit should function (i.e. touch screen, buttons, *****, etc) with just the power/ground cable SOCKET A connected.
For those who have installed PCCM+ on 01~02 model, where did you guys buy "
ISO adapter with resistance for high gain to amp
"? I was hoping that I could buy one from US-based retailers.
Thanks.
I'm just waiting for my unit to arrive this week and looking forward to installing it to get rid of the CDR-23. I've been using an FM transmitter for streaming and the sound quality is not the greatest. I've already relocated the AC unit to the bottom and drilled out and installed two USB ports on the lower trim piece. Still debating if I should even source and install a 3.5 auxiliary extension. Hopefully the media box could fit on the tray with the most converter. Looking for best place to mount the mic as and GPS.
I read through all the posts on this (I think) I believe I have a MOST system, no brown plug. I have everything connected, except the yellow plug (no place to plug in on the pccm+). No sound, have switched to AMP by holding down the volume under settings. Have powered off and disconnected battery. Do I need to rewrire the speaker wires on the yellow plug to the supplied brown plug and bypass amp altogether?
Hate to take to the dealer and get made fun off at this point for not being able to figure this out....
Take off the loop plug and plug the black on into the black box. Remove the plastic protector first! your last pic shows you basically capped off your most with the loop, so of course no sound from the unit. You don't need to plug the loop to anything since you have most. Just plug the cable directly to the black converter box on top, just remove the plastic protector first that's sticking out.
Finally got around to installing a PCCM+ on a 2001 Turbo with PCM1 (Option code 662) and Nokia DSP system (680) - no Bose, no MOST.
Installation went fine following the guidance of everyone on here. I hooked everything up, isolated the security ground wires, ground out pin #17 on the frunk amp, switched from CAN to AMP in the menu, and viola powered up with sound no problem.
Unfortunately it sounds like I have the overamplification, gain, volume issue. I hear white noise while the unit is on and the volume is VERY loud (setting 5 of 30 is super loud). Strangely, I also occasionally get locked out of the settings from the car thinking it's in motion.
For those on the fence with an analog system I would vote against it until a reliable solution can be sourced for the volume / white noise issue.
http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=1542220
mentions a similar problem
Still noise and high gain on the volume
So after some research I ordered an ISO adapter with resistance for high gain to amp. This is a common problem on other cars when using after market stereo with OEM Amp
https://www.brl.se/sv/artiklar/adapt...lslutsteg.html
Thanks for the link. Definitely similar issues however this person's PCM1 had a black brown ISO plug - my system only has the black plug. I suppose I will try the in-line adapter on the black ISO plug if I can find one stateside?
So when you say you contacted Porsche with a question, who exactly did you contact? I'm having a PCCM problem and need a little help from them too I think.
From what I've read / heard - the PCCM+ uses an internal sensor to determine if it's in motion and not the GPS antennae. I had some of the same issues initially but would just spam the button and eventually get let into the settings.
Landscraper - what do you mean by "spam" the button? I had the same error (traffic safety despite being parked) - everything else worked - tried driving, moving it around, and pressing the button numerous times. At this point I'm planning to return the unit - and order a new one.
Frank,
I am still searching for a resolution as well...I see that a couple of users have just returned the PCCM but haven't heard back about how that went. One just unplugged everything and plugged it back in and then it worked. He never was able to identify what was wrong in the first place though. One just kept hitting the button and eventually, the warning went away (I tried that and it didn't work for me). Talked with Suncoast Parts, which is who I purchased it from, and they said to take it to a Porsche dealer or high-end installer to have a look. MIne was installed by a high-end shop. There is no Porsche Dealership near me or I would just take it there. So I'm still pondering my options. The shop that installed it is certainly willing to have a look but we would both like to know if there is a known solution out there before they pull everything apart again...
I believe it is a strange glitch. Mine did that but after I connected everything properly and went to settings it showed for a second and then I pushed settings again and I went to Volume. I don't recall if you are getting sound or not.. Please let me know if that is working or if you were trying to go to settings to fix the volume. If so, I can probably help you with the sound. Unplug the cord that is giving the power and that may help with the warning when you plug it back up.
Let me know. Do you have a picture of the back with everything plugged in?
Frank
Brad85 - same issue - traffic safety warning and settings button does not work (or the native GPS). I don't care about the GPS - use Waze through CarPlay - but I need to be able to change the settings. It's also annoying when something brand new does not work.
I went back and forth with Porsche - and the local dealer - so many times they agreed to provide a new head unit (under warranty). I installed that new unit - much faster this time - and I get the same error message (traffic safety/motion). The odds of two faulty units are extremely low - so what's the solution/trigger? We know the GPS is not the limiting factor. What else could be triggering the "car in motion" on the unit?
2005 996TT. Yes, paid for the maps SD. The GPS tracks/works in the native maps app - just don't ever plan to use it.
Very frustrating as it now appears to be something other than a defective head unit (given second unit).
Per other posts, Porsche has indicated the unit has an accelerometer to determine movement (not GPS). So why would two different units have the same exact problem in the same car - but everything else works?
Everything stock. I installed it - after reading everything online determined it was plug and play with MOST 996TT. It really was an easy installation - just the ridiculous "traffic safety" warning. That alert shows when you press settings in the main menu/screen. Also, if you go into the Maps app - and try to enter anything it gives a warning that the car is in motion and you can't do anything.
I debated letting the dealer take a look but when I spoke with service it seemed clear they don't really look at these units. They (gladly) install them - but they are not really something they can troubleshoot. And as we all know, letting a dealer troubleshoot something electronic is $$$$.
At this point it's more frustrating than anything else. Everything works - it's just this warning - and that it seems to think it's in motion (all the time).
I know the frustration. Very annoying. One of our Volvo XC60s does it and the only difference between the two is one has factory navigation and the other does not. If I don't mess with the screen the warning screen will go off on it's own, but still very annoying. I want to shout... "I KNOW ALREADY!!!!" hahaha
I'll dig around and see if I can come up with anything. Porsche hasn't really been great about support for these units.
Thanks ... appreciate any insights/ideas/advice. I work on cars, motorcycles, and a lot of electronics (in both).
I spoke with Porsche NA several times - no help. They just say ... your dealer can diagnose any problems (not true - but they will charge to look). Porsche corporate claims the units are not really for home installation - yet they sell them online through Porsche and through partners. They agreed it's frustrating for owners when they sell an electronic unit - but provide zero support - and expect you to pay a dealer to diagnose any problems with it (a new unit). I also tried to figure out who actually produces the unit and contact them for tech support - but the only info I found online (someone mentioned Kramer) was a dead end. If there was some way to hack/switch the warning (or deactivate the sensor in the software/firmware) I think the problem would be solved.
The mystery to me - if it is an accelerometer (hardware) in the unit, the odds of two faulty accelerometers in two different units - almost zero. It's not a GPS tracking/connectivity issue - tracks just fine in the native maps app. If it's based on some type of input - such as speed - would be really nice to know how it reads that and what to do if there is an error.
I think I am one of the earlier adaptor of PCCM plus. I have got it in the last summer. The set up of my car is 2004 911 Turbo (USA) with PCM 2.0/Bose/Navigation/MOST. There have been nothing but problems.
The unit itself reboots randomly (only occasionally). The unit resets the onboard computer randomly (often), like travel distance goes to zero. That is the distance in the display below the tachometer, which can be reset by pushing **** (at the upper left side of tachometer) for few seconds. The GPS clock setting does not work. There are other weird glitches, too. PCCM plus was removed, and I went back to PCM 2.0 at the end of 2020. All of the issues also went away. I was going to give it up. However, PCCM plus was installed again at the dealer at the beginning of 2021. All of the issues came back.
The dealer cannot do anything. They deferred me to PCNA. PCNA cannot do anything. PCNA tells me I need to consult the dealer. I am going back and forth between the dealer and PCNA for about five months now. Nobody wants to take care of this unit despite still under warranty. Have any of you had any issues like those I am having? I called several other dealers and checked around. My unit is possibly defective. The dealer tells me my unit is not defective. It looks like my unit is turning into a brick.
mark_mia - I totally understand what you have been through with PCNA. I am doing the same for about five months with no solutions. Just like your situation, they told me to go to the dealer, and I have been with the dealer. But, there is no help from the dealer, either. Did you indicate that you were on the second unit? I hope I can get the replacement under warranty and try the second one. It looks like your problem still exists. In my situation, PCCM plus has been removed and re-installed more than few times in the last several months. One time, the GPS antenna was not plugged in. It was simply forgotten. I still had the access to the setting menu, when the car was not moving. I did not, when the car was moving.
So, for the problem with the setting menu and the traffic safety message, this is what I know. I remember reading somewhere that PCCM plus gets the signal (whether the car is moving or not) by the hard connection. With the analog installation (non-MOST), one of the pins for one connector or something similar needs to be functioning. With MOST, the connection to CAN through the MOST control unit takes care of it.
If not the unit itself, the MOST control unit can be defective, too. In my case, the onboard computer can get reset randomly. In other cases, it can cause the setting menu and the traffic safety message. The other issues I am dealing with, like the rebooting and the GPS clock, are clearly the unit itself.
It is too bad that nobody wants to be responsible and take care of this PCCM plus, still under warranty.
p73rs - sounds like we have the same setup/wiring in the car (mine is a 2005 996 Turbo S). The car is mostly stock (only exhaust and tune) - and no issues (low miles).
My take is they subcontracted the device build without much thought in the way of support, quality control, or ability to diagnose/repair problems. Yes, Porsche NA claims to have no liability or responsibility for the units - despite selling it through a Porsche Classics site (owned domain). They have reiterated they provide a front end for dealers to sell the unit and it's 100% up to the dealer (or where you purchased) to resolve any problems. The dealers love to install them - easy money for an install in most cars. However, if anything goes wrong after install - they claim it's not their problem. The reality is that there are no service/repair options - unless it was a really basic wiring mistake ... which would probably result in no sound as opposed to bizarre glitches like faulty safety warnings or things like you experienced.
That is strange you were locked out of settings when the GPS antenna was unplugged (and car moving). Did you also receive the "traffic safety" warning when the GPS antenna was plugged in and car moving (as the warning was intended)? You never received the safety error while parked (not moving), right? Others claimed the unit has an onboard accelerometer to trigger the warning - but that does not seem to the case/driver. Your comments on the possible role of the MOST unit are interesting - not sure how to reconcile that given same problem with two units (unless a mismatch or error specific certain models/cars).
Yes, I did manage to get the dealer to process a warranty claim (I had unit less than 30 days). I documented everything, explained I took my time and had researched the unit (and issues), and after a lot of back and forth the service manager agreed to replace it through a warranty claim (he had no advice to offer and I think he actually felt bad). End of the day, it's up to the dealer - Porsche NA does not care. I went back and forth with Porsche NA how it's a shame a brand with a great history of customer experience and loyalty takes no ownership of an electronic device that is brand new. The most frustrating part for me is that I get the same "traffic safety" warning with two different (new) units - so it's clearly something with the car/setup - but still something the manufacturer of the unit should be able to solve given this device is intended for a specific brand of cars/wiring.
At this point, my unit works with AirPlay (really just use it for music and Waze) so it's functional in practical terms. However, I have no access to settings (moving or parked) and if i ever wanted to actually use the native Maps/GPS I can't because it will not allow me to enter anything (warning that the car is in motion at all times). Insult to injury is bought the ridiculous SD card for navigation (thought I would get it to have the unit complete).
So ... I'll keep researching online and probably email Porsche back in a few months to see if they have any service/support updates. My advice is to anyone with issues is to keep emailing Porsche so they recognize this is more than 1-2 random people. At this point, dealers have no interest in working on these units with problems. I also spoke with Champion (largest dealer in US) and they said - "we have successfully installed these units ... but we do not work on them to resolve issues." Porsche NA claims they have not heard of any "issues" with the units despite me explaining to them I have spoken with several people with the "traffic safety" issue and others with various glitches in brand new units (otherwise functioning).
I'll keep checking back to see if you - or anyone else - has any updates on the units or we get a service alert from Porsche with a fix for known issues. It would be nice to have the device function as intended. If not, then I'm stuck with a device that does the primary function of music and Waze (but no access to settings).
As I learn more I am including it in a page below. It is not updated with everything I have learned yet but I hope it helps people with the Porsche Professional Classic PCCM and Plus PCCM installation, problems and operation.

Yes. Everything in this regards worked as it was supposed to. When the car was moving, there was the safety message and no access to the settings. When the car was not moving, there was access to the setting. Only thing missing was literally the GPS reception in the navigation and the map.
I can add one more finding. In the last few days, I have driven the car without the navigation software. Obviously, all the functionalities for the navigation and the map were gone. Only the audio side works. I know you dont have the access to the setting. But, I went to the setting and tried the GPS clock sync. It was in manual sync because the GPS sync did not work, as mentioned previously. Surprisingly, the GPS sync does not function at all without the functionality of the navigation and the map. With it, the GPS sync does something. It just puts the wrong time. So, it is possible that the audio side including the setting is independent of GPS.
I was hoping that the navigational software by TomTom was causing all of the issues. However, it is not the case. All of the issues, like resetting the onboard computer, still exist.
Have you tried without the navigational software (micro SD card)? I doubt that it will change anything, but it will be nice to try. Is the map working regardless?
I totally agree about the position of the dealers and PCNA. The issues with PCCM plus do not belong to either of them. Each party keeps referring me to the other party. That has been the way for the last five months. You are lucky that the replacement unit was provided under warranty. With your experience, I suspect that the replacement unit makes any difference for me, however.
It looks like the issues with our cars are related to the installations with MOST. My car is all stock, too. It could be as simple as some software update.
I just have to keep checking around, too. In my case, PCCM plus is breaking the functionality of the car itself, so I am getting closer to giving it up entirely and having an expensive brick. The worst part is it is still under warranty.
Navigation and maps are nice once the SD card in purchased and installed. I am really confused about how the PCCM could effect other aspects of the car. I am not familiar with the turbo but it still seems really strange. Want you to check the wiring to make sure everything is correct. If you don't have xm you should have main plug, smaller yellow plug put into the top of the plug closest to the edge, microphone, antenna, MOST to back of unit and plug that fits into MOST so both spaces are filled in the MOST and gps cord. You probably already know this but wanted to mention..
Thanks for the comments. Anything will help.
With MOST, there are only connections to the power, the microphone, the GPS antenna, the radio antenna, and the MOST controller (analog to/from digital converter). Then, the connection from the MOST controller to the car. There is no yellow plug or equivalent. In theory, it is real plug and play.
All of the connections (plug in/connector) have been checked already. They are all secure and all the way in. Having said that, there is chance that the harness, provided in the box, from the head unit to the MOST controller can be defective. Perhaps, it is the next step.
PCM 2.0 (the OEM head unit) is integrated into the car with MOST. Here are some examples. There is no radio code. DME recognizes the individual unit. The clock in the instrument cluster is set by PCM 2.0. PCM 2.0 provides the navigation information to the onboard computer for display purpose.
If PCM 2.0 is removed (for the aftermarket radio perhaps), there will be code for it with PIWIS. In fact, PCCM plus is causing this code with PIWIS along with the other ones including the instrument cluster and the A/C unit. I am having issues with the onboard computer and the A/C unit. I am not sure if it is coincidence. Nobody (the dealer and PCNA) does not have the answer. I think this integration is the problem for the car with MOST. PCCM plus is not exactly replicating the functionality of PCM 2.0. It is an aftermarket radio anyway.
PCCM plus is one-size-fits-all, the analog installation with/without amplifier and the digital installation. In my opinion, PCCM plus should have had two editions, analog and digital. PCCM plus is trying to become the part of the car with MOST, but there are some glitches. For the analog installations, the output level needs to be changed. Still, some ballast/resistor is needed. This is my diagnostic and more like guess because nobody has the answer. But, this is the consensus around me.
If anybody has any idea, please let me know. I am probably misunderstanding something, too. My PCCM plus is turning into an expensive brick despite it is under warranty. If it is causing the internal issues only, like the GPS clock sync, it will be OK (still not acceptable but livable). Mine is breaking the functionality of the car itself. I cannot live with that. If somebody knows where to contact and raise the issues, it is a very good start. The people who decided to create PCCM plus and market it around the world need to know what is going on. PCNA and the dealer will not make the warranty repair/exchange without hearing from such people. This is my story.
Now I have this problem. My air conditioneer works fine when the PCCM is off. It does not work fine (does not cool properly) when the PCCM is on. When I turn it off I can hear what appears to be like a compressor turning on properly. Is there some electric power issue like the pccm pulling power form the air? Need help with this one.
I'm happy to share that Rod & Jake at CAI came through for me! As a reminder, I have an 03' (MOST, Bose, CDR23 & no CD changer) and after installation I was experiencing three issues in order of importance:
1. A/C compressor would trip when PCCM Plus was powered on
2. Radio buttons would not illuminate
3. Radio would not power on / off with key
#1 was addressed when they realized the yellow square plug that was plugged into CDR23 (and had a spot to plug in on PCCM Plus) needed to be left disconnected. From what I was told, the yellow plug is an analog 12 volt turn on for the earlier cars, 97-02, both Bose and HiFi (black with red wire on the car side), data on the MOST cars 03-05, and analog low level signal (4 conductors) and ground for the 97-02 cars with HiFi package. In case of Bose, it takes high level/speaker level signal in from a separate brown speaker wire plug in radio cavity. The theory that the awesome guys at CAI think is the PCCM Plus doesn't know which car it's in, and may be throwing 12 volts into a data wire on the MOST Bus cars. The Porsche Technical Bulletin (which I gave to the guys) should likely say to
not
plug in the yellow square amp plug on the MOST bus cars! Once they unplugged the yellow plug the A/C compressor stopped kicking off when it was powered up.
(Note: Base stereo cars, no amp, no door woofers, they don't have the yellow square plug since they're only speaker level to the main speakers-no door woofers or factory amp)
#2 & 3 Resolved with tapping into switched accessory / illumination power. Now the radio powers up / down with key (can manually turn off as well) and the radio lights are illuminated when headlights are switched on.
I can't say enough how appreciative I am of Rod & Jake in troubleshooting and resolving my issues. I hope this post is of value to others in the future who may have similar problems.
Jake here, after reading through this thread It looks like turning the Can setting on in the hidden volume settings menu might have solved the issue, generating illumination, acc and making the can wires happy in 03-05 cars, its not very clear that the two settings are can/amp, and you choose can for cars that have an amp, any ways, I got around this by pinning acc and illumination wires into the factory harness and leaving the yellow harness unplugged, here is are some pics of the install, I have done 2 double din classic installs this week and about 50 single din classic radio installs in 993, 964, and 996s over the past years, and about 1000 aftermarket radio installs. Im my opinion, If you like the oem look than the classic radio is great, however the they lack the ability for adding a backup camera, wireless carplay, and sound features you would get in an aftermarket radio.
You have no idea how happy you just made me. I went out and took the yellow plug out and air now works fine. I don't understand what the plug was for so not sure I'm not missing something but wow that worked. One more question is why does the PCCM not turn off like the radio when I turn the car off? The settings in the PCCM are not working. I have it set to off instead of staying on 5 minutes or longer. I have to turn it on and off.
By design, the "CAN" in the PCCM+ refers to CAN Bus or controlled access network. As many people know, after 2002, Porsche 996 cars began using a fiber optic system using MOST.
2002 and earlier Porsche cars, just used analog connectivity. Therefore, you'd think that would mean you should select "AMP" in the PCCM+ for analog cars with the HAES or Nokia amp in the frunk, but as many users have found, this doesn't work correctly. Why? Because in the pre-2003 cars with amplifiers, the pre-amp LINE LEVEL signal was fed to the amp via the YELLOW C1 plug. (I posted a schematic in some of my earlier posts).
Now, if you had a Porsche 996 or 986 pre-2003 car without an frunk amplifier, then selecting "AMP" on the PCCM+ works just fine for that system because SPEAKER LEVEL audio from the head unit is fed out of the socket B directly to the speakers as it did with older Becker stereo systems.
It would be good for all of the PCCM+ community to know if the Porsche PCCM+ units can output analog pre-amp audio without HIGH to LO gain conversion from the B2 plug.
Many people are complaining about noise and hum with the HI/LO (speaker level to line level) conversion cables.
In other words, it would be good to know if you can output pre-amp level analog audio to the frunk amplifiers without any aftermarket voodoo.
Yeah I figured that out afterwards, it seems like it could be worded better in the the instructions and it could be called CAN 03-05 or ANALOG 97-02. since both options could have and amp or not
Not clear on the CAN and AMP settings. When I plugged in the cord that was in the old radio with two female pins into the MOST and set to CAN the volume worked. I don't think AMP worked but not positive.. 2004 porsche carrera 4s. I don't really understand what setting to CAN or AMP means.
"CAN"
is short for CANbus which stands for Controlled Access Network. Porsche uses MOST via fiber optics for cars 2003 or later.
"AMP"
is short for Amplifier which is noted for analog-based systems in 996 and 986 generation cars from 1997 - 2002.
At the moment, it is understood that "AMP" is referring to the PCCM+ internal amplification on pre-2003 cars that did NOT have a frunk amplifier. That is, the speakers were driven directly off the PCCM+ unit itself not with the help of a separate amplifier.
So does the MOST installation not require the yellow plug to be hooked up? I have an 03 Turbo with Bose / Most (PCM on CAN setting and yellow plug hooked in) and while I have not seen any of the A/C or volume problems, my trip odometer randomly resets I noticed I have faults when I run a quick scan on the Foxwell tool, 1. A/C System - CAN signal error PCM & 2. Instrument cluster control system - No signal/comm PCM control unit. Aside from the odometer issue, the unit works fine with no operating issues.
I have the same problem. Also, there is a problem with the illumination of the A/C unit display (... and several others). Interestingly, my car produces the same faults for the A/C system and the instrument cluster with PIWIS.
It sounds like pulling the yellow connector fixes those problems. But, all of the other functionality through CAN bus may also be lost, too. Some examples can be no clock sync between the instrument cluster and PCCM plus, no illumination for the push buttons on PCCM plus with headlight on (the white or amber light in the buttons) and so on.
Hopefully, somebody knows what is going on. I am just lost.
Thanks for the help.
I just unbuttoned the unit and unplugged the yellow connector. There is no clock sync, the buttons do not illuminate and the unit will not shut off (turn on) with the ignition (setting to off in the menus). I think the choice for night mode / day mode vs auto was greyed out but went through that quickly. The faults still exist and its too early to tell if the odometer issue is resolved. I would think that we would need some programming to sync the new unit coming from a CDR23 but I don't have a unit to test that theory.
Thanks for this. This is very good information, and it makes sense.
By removing the yellow connector, PCCM plus was removed from CAN bus. PCCM plus was causing the problems, so the cause was isolated. The two cases of A/C blowing hot air were resolved. I suspect that the onboard computer resetting problems stops, too, because there was nothing wrong with the car prior to PCCM plus. The point is that all of the broken functionality of the car is restored.
The other side of the story is the functionality within PCCM plus. Again, some of the functionality within PCCM plus should be gone, like the automatic turn on/off, the day/night mode, the light in the buttons, and so on. This is because the car and PCCM plus are no longer communicating each other without CAN bus connection. These are still faults in terms of the user experience, but they are different from the faults in the car.
In fact, for the case at CAI with the A/C problem, the accessory power was tapped for the automatic turn on/off. The illumination was tapped for the lighting.
The audio signal is still connected by MOST controller. The power is hooked up. So, the audio function and the navigation should still work.
I think this is design flaw. The real fix probably requires software/firmware update, if not the re-design. The dealers and Porsche Cars North America do not acknowledge any problems. According to the dealer, mine is not defective.
It is all theory, but it is holding up so far. I hope someone who knows what is going on will provide us answers and solutions soon.
I am not experiencing any of the problems some of you are having. I installed one of the first PCCM + units to hit the US market in MY 2003TT. I originally had a Bose CDR23. When I installed, I used my PIWIS 2 to configure as a PCM 2.0 and also added navigation to the instrument cluster so turn-by-turn directions now appear in the cluster.
What does it mean by "configure as a PCM 2.0?" The original head unit in my car is PCM 2.0. It looks like you have got MOST. Mine does, too. Also, mine is one from the first shipment at the dealer.
--------------------
I am hoping for the replacement unit because mine can be defective. It is a good start. According to PCNA and the dealers, any warranty work needs to be processed through the service department at the dealer, regardless of how it was purchased (as parts from the parts department or as an installed product from the service department). For the warranty process, the dealer checked all the connections. There was nothing wrong. The dealer told me that if I mess up any of their work, the warranty is void. I am reluctant to touch it now.
The dealer said the engine would start, I could drive the car, PCCM plus would turn on, and I could listened to the radio. That is pretty much where this warranty process is at. I should have gone to a different dealer. Even, PCNA suggests that. I still can, but a new diagnostic/warranty case needs to be started with 5-6 hours of labor costs. It is getting difficult to spend anymore money into this product under warranty.
This situation is turning into like IMS for 996 or the oil lead for 964. Not everyone is experiencing the problems. If you have got the one working, that is great. Otherwise, it is very difficult to deal with. Apparently, I am having bad luck. Thanks for reading my frustration.
Rebooting of the unit itself randomly (occasionally)
Resetting of the onboard computer randomly (frequently)
GPS and RBDS clock sync problem
Random display of turn-by-turn direction without active routing
The problem with the A/C panel illumination
The way PCCM plus turning on/off (possibly a part of the features but never confirmed)
Again, the dealer said I could drive the car and listen to the radio. So, everything is OK according to them.
The yellow connector provides:
1. Power on/off Control of PCCM through the ignition switch
2. clock and gps data synchronization
3. Navigation data feed to instrument cluster
4. Lighting control to PCCM through light switch
I would be curious to see what happens when the yellow connector is disconnected. The random booting would make me think that the PCCM is defective.
When the AC panel illumination malfunctions, does the lighting on the PCCM buttons also fail?
There is occasional where it turns off asthmatically but not enough to really be a problem. My air worked fine after I disconnected the yellow plug and can't see any difference in the functionality. But what wires do what of the above?
I am sure all of the problems within the car, like resetting the onboard computer, will go away. I thought about that in my posting, #153, of this thread.
The problems within PCCM plus (including rebooting) are more than likely the glitches in PCCM plus. So, the replacement unit should be tried. I am at the mercy of the dealer, which indicates my car and PCCM plus are working fine. I am stuck with this PCCM plus for now.
In my car, the A/C panel display illumination is slaved to the display illumination of PCCM plus. They go bright or dim together. They are too bright during the night time. (The headlight is on because it is dark. This is important. The car needs to be in the night mode.)
So, I turn off PCCM plus with the hope that the brightness control reverts back to the pre-PCCM plus installation. (The brightness for the three digital displays in the instrument cluster and the A/C panes display could be controlled by the brightness control at the upper left side of tachometer before, with the headlight turned on or in the night mode.) With PCCM plus turned off, the brightness of the A/C panel display goes to the brightest and gets stuck there.
If the brightness of the three digital displays in the instrument clusters is turned down, it is very obvious. This needs to be done in the complete darkness, too, because there is a light sensor. The headlight needs to be on as well. Hopefully, it makes sense.
This is the illumination problem. The lighting on the buttons works fine.
Attached, is the pin-out for the yellow connector. One of the CAN comfort pins is from the ignition key that controls power to the PCCM. I believe the other CAN comfort pin is used for, clock, gps, lighting and navigation synchronization, and key code in C6 is the security code from the imobilizer to unlock the original CDR23 or PCM, but I am not 100% sure.
For anyone looking for one but doesn't want to pay retail, Suncoast has an open box unit available. $1150.

I came across this post that shows access to a 'hidden menu' option to disable the NHTSA message. Are you able to access this?

hello. My name is nick. I have spent about 4 days on the net and I see a lot of people have the same problem but I havent seen a real answer to resolve the issue. When I go to the secret settings it says something g to the effect that the car is in motion and I cant go any further. If somebody actually has an answer to this I would so so so greatly appreciate that help lol o get past this. My email is
[email removed]
. Im so desperate right now because Ive got a nice looking beautiful radio but no sound. If anyone knows please help. Thanks so much.

Thanks a lot guys for all the information here! All this helped my install the PCCM+ in my 996 04 turbo with PCM2 and MOST. I removed the CD player and put the MOST loop in there, needed to cut off a bit on the white antenna plug to get the one from the car fit on it. The only pain is that you need to get the plastic frame out and install the radio in that frame (the PCM2 had 4 screws on the side to get it out without removing the frame). Otherwise it was just plug-n-play and it sounds better than the previous bluetooth module I had looped into the MOST bus, and having car play is just awesome!
I hope you received a newer version of the PCCM Plus, otherwise watch your trip odometer for random resets, due to a bug in the OS that randomly sends a signal to the OBC to reset the odometer. Very frustrating.
I contacted Sound in motion to get an estimate on the batwing with USB in it their response:
We just need you to send us your factory panel and USB hub. It requires 4 hours of labor at $125/hr, $25 in materials, plus shipping.
Let me know. Thanks
$525 plus shipping!!!!!! and we provide the parts!
I think sound in motion has too much work you should take your business to someone who wants it efff him
any computer repair shop can do this for you for a under a hundred anytime
Yeah of course! I would never and would be shocked at anyone who would. I just was curious at how much they would charge but that price even surprised me!
It looks like the CTAMPPASSTHROUGH adapter for folks running into volume issues on the non-Bose, non-MOST stereos with the OEM amp is only available in the UK (thought it sounds like they do ship to the US).
I'm thinking a bit out loud here but it seems that one *could* piece together a hi/lo pass converter using the following (it will be a little more DIY and bulky than the CTAMPPASSTHROUGH):
Brown ISO speaker wiring adapter with male and female ends like this:
Amazon
Amazon
4 Channel Hi/Lo converter like this:
Amazon
Amazon
This particular one has adjustable gain
4 RCA to speaker wire adapters like this:
Amazon
Amazon
To assemble:
Cut the ISO speaker wiring adapter in half so the male and female ends are separate
Wire the male part of the ISO adapter to the Hi/Lo converter wire harness. This should convert the output from the PCCM+ to RCA output as if an aftermarket amp was going to be installed
Wire the female part of the ISO adapter to the RCA speaker wire adapters paying attention to keeping the Left Front, Left Rear, Right Front, Right Rear in mind.
Plug the RCA plugs into the appropriate Left Front, Left Rear, Right Front, Right Rear outputs on the Hi/Lo converter
Crude diagram:
PCCM+ --> Male ISO Adapter --> Hi/Lo converter --> RCA to speaker wire adapter --> Female ISO Adapter --> OEM Amp
@lost27
- Do you have a PCM 1.0? In response to your other post/thread - You can source the CTAMPPASSTHROUGH from
Enfig
in the US, but that adapter did not fix my issues.
The custom adapter from discount car stereo worked very well to allow me to bring down the overall volume output. It DID NOT fix the hum, which was not affected by turning the gain up/down. The part they sent me was a custom version of this:
https://www.discountcarstereo.com/aih-conti.html
with a
gain/adjustment
- The custom adapter allowed me to maintain all of my stock wiring/plugs.
I also tried installing some ground loop isolators to help with the hum and alternator whine but they had no effect. I suspect the source has something to do with the grounding at the AMP and the additional pin/ground modification Porsche has you do with the install.
I have a 2003 C4S with CDR23 and Bose with MOST. No CD changer. I would like to upgrade to the PCCM which will require moving the climate control. I have two questions. 1 - the the PCCM plug and play in my system order than the mechanical modification to make the double din fit where my CDR23 is. 2 - I dont think this will upgrade the sound from the system since the speaker are driven by the amp. Would replacing the speaker improve significantly or do i also need to upgrade the Bose amp?
Thanks for the response

, to answer your question, I do not believe that I have a PCM 1.0. Based on what I can find on the internet, I think that I have the HiFi radio that is non-Bose. I believe that this system is the single DIN Becker CDR-220 headunit with the Nokia DSP amp.
How did you connect the custom Hi/Lo coverter? You wouldn't happen to have any pictures or a crude diagram would you?

For the most part, the tech said that it was a straight forward install. There was a small box that that I guess was the Nokia DSP that was tucked up behind the dash from what I could only assume was a previous install. The tech said that without that unit plugged in, there was no sound coming out of the speakers from the PCCM+. The tech left the DSP plugged in and tucked behind the dash where it was found.
I was worried about the volume/gain and hissing issues that others in the PCCM+ install thread noted so I was mentally prepared to have to order more parts to address those issues. I was pleasantly surprised that when I started testing it out in the dealer lot, there was no hissing or alternator wine, nor was there any issue with the volume/gain. I was able to turn the volume up to 19 and it sounded much much better than the previous stereo that was there.
The Android Auto was very simple to set up and I tested out the hands free calling which sounded great (voice on the other end sounded good from what I'm told). I did play with the EQ settings a bit and turned the Loudness button on the radio off to get the sound where I liked.
I have the exact same car and did the PCCM+ install last month. It's truly plug and play. Moving the climate control is very easy. Just make sure you have all the parts including the new upper storage cubby to replace the CD storage unit. Here's the complete list:
- PCCM+ (for 2003 996 C4S, Bose CDR-23 MOST) 996-642-591-00c
-Navigation Maps 996-642-502-00C (only if you intend to use the TomTom Porsche maps occasionally vs. Waze, Maps, etc in CarPlay)
- Retaining bar 996-552-653-04
- Front support frame 996-552-231-1201C
-Front A/C panel frame 996-552-339-0001C
-Two screws PAF008933
-Upper storage tray 996 552 253 01 01C
I also added the Sirius XM tuner module (ordered from Amazon):
SiriusXM SXV300 Connect Vehicle Tuner for Satellite Radio - Plugs right in and fully compatible with the Tuner touchscreen of PCCM+
I took me about 4 hours to install and a lot of the time was spent removing the old Motorola Bluetooth phone kit I had put in 15 years ago.
Don't replace your speakers until you've listened to the sound with the new PCCM+. I'm impressed with how much better the audio is; not an expert but I'm assuming the pre-amp in it is a lot better than in the CDR23.
I've read through this entire Thread which was very helpful when installing a PCCM Plus in a clients 2003 Boxster with PR:680 Bose amp/HiFi/MOST. I also had zero sound until I unplugged the yellow plug but with the yellow plug disconnected as noted in other posts, the PCCM plus will not power on/off with ignition. Does anyone have a work-around that would allow the yellow plug to remain plugged in (perhaps with one of the wires unpinned) so the system will power on/off with ignition?
Hey guys, I have a 2003 Turbo with factory PCM 2.0 - Im not sure of the terms entirely but I believe I have MOST? I have a CD changer and Bose. My shop just installed the PCCM+ in my car. I havent picked it up yet but they are saying that the PCCM does not turn off with the ignition switch. In other words, they remove the key, the radio stays on. They also turned off the Standby feature that keeps the radio on for a bit after ignition off. This doesnt help.
Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance.
That shouldn't be happening if they did the install correctly. Yes, your 2003 has MOST and as per my previous post, it's really plug and play with MOST equipped cars.
Standby doesn't keep the unit ON with the key out, it only keeps the PCCM processor in sleep mode so it doesn't go into full restart if the vehicle has only been off for less than 5,10 or 30 mins...useful when you're running around doing short errands and don't want to wait for the whole startup sequence just to listen to the radio every time you hop in and out of the car.
My guess is either your ignition switch is faulty (happens) or your shop messed something up.
Yep, started to happen with mine as well, took a few hundred miles, but then started to reset the counter every now and then.
OS version 25.0.0.6.1.0.1.1
I will check my OS version tomorrow. Did you install the PCCM? Have you reached-out to your local Porsche dealer for assistance? My local dealer is Sunset Porsche. I spoke to the shop foreman a couple of months ago, he said other customers have this issue, but so far no software update are in the works that he is aware of.
Over in Europe, there is a solution, and people have this issue resolved. See this thread:
http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=144822
It looks like we have the same OS firmware level. I purchased my PCCM in September 2020. When did you purchase yours? I am going to ask the guys that have upgraded what their OS version they are running.

Here is a photo of the OS and other module levels for the software fix. from a member in London. The OS is the same level as mine, but the AP is different. I am not sure that the AP is the code that fixes the problem. I think MCU designates country/continent specific location.
Hello al. I just installed the PCCM+ in my 2003 TT with BOSE.
I've done a lot of research on how to do this installation. Thanks for all the writeup so far.
Everything went pretty smoothly with the install and here are some lessons learned though that I hope will help future installs.
The microphone can be installed with a little bit of modification in the Factory original location to the Left of instruments.
I did not do this yet and may do it at a later date

The GPS antenna actually has a proper home at the base of the windshield
I did not follow the instructions exactly since I did not have an angled Torx to remove the two torx bolts.
I ran the wire as shown in the pictures below.
The USB/AUX box fits snuggly under the passenger side HVAC floor vent and the center tunnel.
So everything went smoothly and the PCCM+ works and sounds real good.

Only issue now is the following...hoping someone has a solution: ==>
EDIT:
Solved my problem
....it was a 15amp fuse. Row C fuse 3. It controls the Central Locking/Alarm system, Power windows, interior lights, sunroof (see pics below)
Can't lock the door -- I hear clicking sound and the car horn beeps twice
Door lock switch inside the car does not activate
Interior lights don't turn on
windows do not go up.

GPS Antenna that comes with the PCCM+ has a small magnet on the bottom of it. The silver flat spot is where the factory GPS Antenna sits.
The spot for the GPS Antenna is on the Dashboard at the base of the windshield where the Alarm LED blinking light is located. (cover removed)
GPS Antenna Located
GPS wire routed through security LED light hole.
I sandwiched the USB/AUX box under the passenger floor vent and the tunnel. I will route the cables between the carpet trim on the tunnel
USB/AUX box sandwiched under the passenger floor vent and the tunnel
Were you able to remove the gps cover on the dashboard without breaking it? I placed both antennas under the passenger cowl. Any tips on how to remove the gps antenna cover?
Those are great pics, and with the combination of Step 3 and the pic of your broken bits, it looks like in step 3, "rearward" means you're pushing it back - toward the window, right? Lift and push back to remove, hook it and pull forward then push down to install.
That is the exact same MCU, APP and OS version that I have. I bought mine in Sept 2021 from Suncoast and installed it myself.
Thanks for posting the UK thread, yeah, I also noticed that the AP version is higher there, so hopefully we'll get that fix too. I'll call Suncoast next week, see what they say or at least make them aware that many people have that issue.
Happy New Year!
There have been lots of critical comments about the lack of input for a camera (and the "I don't need one, I can drive" comments) and the lack of wireless carplay/AA. While there are solutions to the wireless issue, I haven't seen any real solutions to allow for a camera. I've seen thread for modifications of other PCCM versions, but not this one.
I checked with
NavTool for PORSCHE
, but of course they'll say there is nothing compatible with the 996. I'm wondering though, if it's compatible with other versions of the PCCM, would it work with PCCM+?
This one is supposed to add video to the factory nav on a 996:
PORSCHE 911 1999-2004 VIDEO INTERFACE, BACK-UP CAMERA INTERFACE (navtool.com)
Has anyone determined whether something like this will or will not work?
During my self install this weekend I ran into a new problem that I haven't seen discussed here -- 'hoping some one has some thoughts on how to solve it:
2005 996, CDR23 with head unit amplification of stock Nokia speakers (no MOST). After installing the PCCM+ unit, I have the over amplification/loud volume issue, but I've ordered a
CTAMPPASSTHROUGH adapter that I believe will fix it. More curiously,
I get a screeching sound on unit boot-up in the rear speakers only.
After that the sound plays normally through all the speakers.
I've:
disconnected the rear speakers to verify it's not coming out of the fronts
swapped the front speakers to the rear and sound remains in the rear
re-installed the CDR23 and the sound goes away
Has anyone seen this before, or have any thoughts on things I might try?
Here is a quick video I shot so folks can hear the sound the speakers make -- turn down your sound though!

New revelation today as I was reading through the PCCM+ user manual (who does that these days??).
PCCM+ has a built in microphone (see below)
You can "Enable" and "Disable" the external microphone that everyone has been installing in various locations in the car
So I did a test today to see which one sounds better. Some things to note about my situation for this test.
I did this with the engine running and with the engine off.
I have an aftermarket exhaust on the car so it is louder than stock but not unbearable.
I was not driving (car was in the garage)
In my test situation, while using Bluetooth and Carplay, disabling the external microphone and using the built in microphone seemed to result in clearer sound to the person I was calling.
At somepoint, I will have to check this when I am driving and with windows open/closed etc.
I believe that the way the system is PCCM+ is designed, that the external microphone may not need to be installed. So if you want to have a truly clean look without taking apart your interior, this would allow for that possibility.
That's great information. Mine's a cab, so it's noisier all the time, even though much better with the hardtop. But other than the sensitivity of the microphone, I don't see why the location in the dash would be any better than on the unit itself. Maybe just above the driver or on the steering column would be more direct, but if you can get good results from the internal mic, why not use it?
Are there input level adjustments for both internal and external mics?
I have inquired with a few businesses that add a camera. All have said that it is not worth their while to look into adding a camera as there is not enough demand for them to make any money off of the effort for the 996. One installer familiar with the unit said it was just an android unit from China, so someone that can sniff the signals from the unit could figure out how to add a camera. That is as far as I got with info on adding a camera. I did not come across Navtool, though. Cool. Maybe if it were possible to talk to one of ther techs, they may be able to help out.
But there is only one way to find out if getting the interface module you posted will work. Someone has to be the guinea pig and try.
Hi all,
I need some wiring help. Installing the PCCM+ into my 2002 Turbo with Bose. Upon pulling out the double DIN radio already in place and disconnecting the wiring harness, I noticed a loose wire (appeared to have been pulled free as it had a stripped end)--it's the red/black wire which I take it is the remote Amp activation wire. I believe that because I connected all the harnesses and no matter what, nothing triggers the amp to come on--whether I put it into CAN or AMP. Nothing. No sound except me banging my head against the steering wheel.
My fault for apparently wiggling or pulling too hard.
Does anyone know where that wire needs to go in the factory harness? I'm assuming into the black connector--but which pin is it? Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Right now I'm just kicking myself...
I see only one red with black stripe wire on the schematic, it's the main power wire for the entire system, and it's a heavy wire around 14ga - it goes to black plug pin#4.
If you actually meant a skinny black with red stripe wire, that one goes to the yellow plug pin #6 and it is the remote turn-on for the amp.
I think it would be preferable to connect it back to where it belongs. If that is not possible then it would probably be OK to connect it to switched +12v.
I did manage to talk to NavTool sales. All they said was that they are aware of the PCCM+, but do not do any work on these units. This doesn't mean that their module won't work, but this is all I got from them.
I looked into some of the Android Auto Screen Mirroring software and there's probably a way to get the backup cam to work through this.
The idea is you'd have a dedicated android device, jailbroken, that would allow you to watch Netflix, Youtube, etc on your PCCM+. Then if you've gone that far, it can't be much more work to get a wireless rear camera wired to some trunk source to display on the android. You'd want the android device either having it's own 4G data connection, or you could use a phone hotspot to bridge the camera and the dedicated android phone.
There's probably enough support on the XDA dev site to write software that would interface with the signal from the reverse lights.
There's no major technical reason why this can't be done, especially as screen mirroring on android auto is already a thing.
Anyone know if the OEM GPS antenna is comparable to the new one supplied with the PCCM Plus? The wire harness looks similar, and I read on another forum that the build quality of the OEM is better, but I am not sure if almost 20 years later... did they change? Id rather keep the OEM GPS antenna in its place instead of replacing with the newly supplied. Thanks,
are there not 996 fitment android pcms as they do for the 997/cayman?
to potentially support a reverse camera, BOTH the rear camera input pin(s) IN ADDITION to a reverse trigger input pin (assuming no direct canBus reverse input) would have to be exposed on the rear pin-input of the pccm+ wire harness. Since this feature isnt offically even supported there is a chance that the pin signals arent at the back.
now since this unit is officially a nice looking, re-Skinned Chinese android deck. - in theory the unit could be opened up by an android deck pro, and potentially a rear camera input adapter (and reverse trigger input) could be somehow mounted directly to the motherboard itself. but this is alot of internal fiddling + pose some risk for this very expensive re-Skinned android unit.
knowing all these facts, would it not be easier, simpler + cheaper to just get a 996 fitment android pcm with rear camera support?
hmm, maybe 997 is alot simpler - but i just use the analog to mostHur adapter for 90$ for my android deck. u do lose the front->back fade controls so it just becomes a stereox2 setup (front + rear channels play the same). sounds great - if not better then before.
Later edit:
all ok, kind of an user error
... I had a USB stick plugged in (which PCCM didn't recognise)... As soon as I removed it everything worked
Just installed PCCM+ on my '99 C2 (w/ frunk amp, no DSP, no CD-changer) - everything went smooth except Carplay/Android Auto. Both of them are stuck in a connect/disconnect loop. Plug in - both phone and PCCM recognise the device then immediately disconnects, re-connects and cycles like this indefinitely.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?
Chipping in to describe my findings:
- It looks like PCCM+ does output (1) line-level signals out of the yellow "C" connector + (2) speaker-level signals from the brown "B" connector. My assumption is that it outputs both simultaneously.
- my car came with the factory frunk amp M490 option, and only had the A & C connectors (no brown one).
- as I did an aftermarket setup I also tested the outputs from the yellow C connector and they are 100% line-level
Hi
currently have a 2003 turbo with Bose and most
installed the pccm no sound
pulled the fibre optic at the CD player to check and no red light shining through cable
this point think I have messed fibre cable
so pull out pccm and pop pcm back in
works straight away
check fibre optics at cd changer again and red light
back to the head units - on pcm the fibre optic light in on in a constant state
when I plug the pccm back up the fibre optic light from the control unit is cycling
one second on about 30 seconds off when it is on for that one second I get sound for the first cycle after has been installed
What have I done wrong?
the fact that it is regularly cycling makes me think it is something I have done or not done or is the control unit faulty?
is there a setting somewhere to turn MOST on constantly?
any suggestions please?
@
kilsoj
The fibre at the CD player should be disconnected and "MOST bridge" from PCCM+ should be connected there.
Also, make sure that the system is set to CAN and not AMP.
@bobthejob sorry I didnt explain that very well - I have the bridge at the CD player - I have been checking the light coming through when remove the bridge and then the outputs at the back of the pcm and pccm
on the pcm the fibre optic light is on constantly from the minute it is powered up - on the pccm it is flashing a cycle
as in attached
By all accounts an install on a MOST car with an original OEM stereo is pretty plug and play. BobTheJob mentions the CAN vs AMP setting in the PCCM+ and you didn't address it in your reply. That really needs to be confirmed before anything else.
Hi
yes the I have done the can / amp check - it should be can for my vehicle but I tried it on both anyway just to see - I thought maybe the amp was faulty but it I working fine with the original pcm 2
@Landscraper
I'm in exactly the same situation, with a 2001 TT, PCM1, DSP - the PCCM+ works well....apart from a hum and over amplified audio.
I bought the connects2 cable, only to discover it's useless as my car only uses the black connector block - not the brown.
Hopefully you have some miracle solution by now?
Thanks!
I dont - contemplating ordering a spare - was hoping anyone on here running most might remember if the converter gave them a steady light or oscillating like mine
If anyone could through further light on this please
so spoke to local Porsche - after taking my vin number they state I have option m680 - which I can see on my option list but fair enough
so I have to ground the m680 according to them - the instructions dont state this only with pcm1 and dsp - and when I open up my amp connector I only have three cables attached
brown
red
red white
whwre would I ground in this or what would I take out anyone any ideas?
thanks
Nope! Still have the hum (pretty sure it's alternator whine). Learned to live with it and it's usually not an issue unless I'm listening to something very quiet.
I just did this - ground the M680 - yesterday. The M680 amplifier is in the front storage area, right hand side. If you undo the front carpet you can look in towards the rear and see it. There is a black 18-pin plug on the amp. Unplug this, it has a handle that has to be rotated to unplug it. Look at the plug, the pins are labeled 1-9 and 10-18. You need to find the wire that goes to pin 17. On my car it was a white with green stripe wire. Cut this wire leaving enough to splice a new wire into. Tape up the wire that goes into the harness, it's not used anymore. Splice a piece of new wire into the short piece of wire that extends from the plug. Connect the new wire to ground, there's an M6 bolt right there that has the amplifier ground already. Done!
I have uploaded the PCCM+ installation guide. The procedure is on Page 9. Please note, the installation guide states that the pin 17 wire is black/red/yellow - however my car has white/green.
Also note the installation guide states to use a new wire from Porsche to make the ground connection. This isn't necessary as you can easily splice in a short piece of new wire.
@theprf
thanks for replying - does your car have pcm 1 or pcm 2? Most or non most? How many wires are connected to the plug on your amp? There are only 3 in mine at 9, 14, 18
thanks again
My car is not MOST, not PCM, just M680 with a standard CDR220 radio. If you had M680 you would have a DSP control panel under the radio with a number of buttons on it, and there would be wires connected to pins 1, 8, 9, 17, and 18 of that 18-pin plug.
Ok so have figured out that there are two m680 (forgive my lack of knowledge)
dsp m680 and
bose m680 - which I have
opc are stating I have to ground the bose m680 but as dont have dsp to remove I cant figure out why? Anyone?
Im sorry to ask this but if anyone has one of these with most could you pull the loop at the cd changer and see if the red optical light cycles on and off or stays on constantly - many thanks
Can anyone confirm that wireless android auto will or will not work with PCCM+, say with the Motorola MA1 unit. I have 02 996 Turbo. Works fine with wired connection.
Has anyone discovered how to, or if you can, get rid of the text warning about connecting external devices, etc. that displays after the Porsche crest image upon every boot up?
I have this unit:
https://shop.aawireless.io/
Had it for a few months now, and its been flawless. Only note is that I set the standby in the PCCM+ settings to none. This cuts power to the usb port when you turn the car off, which releases the connection immediately. With standby on the adapter remains powered, and the phone doesn't disconnect from the car for several minutes which I found pretty annoying.
Just installed the PCCM Plus into my 2003 996 Turbo. Install was pretty straight forward. I also installed the Sirius SX adapter SXV300. Radio works, sounds great. The CarPlay and the Sirius both are having problems, similar to problems I’ve read on the UK forums with people having their digital stations go on and off. The CarPlay will connect/disconnect every couple of seconds and my Sirius goes in and out sporadically, sometimes as often as every couple of seconds. I purchased it from Suncoast and called them today. They said I would have to take it to a local Porsche dealer to have them diagnose it and warranty it. I’ve checked and double checked all connections and everything is pushed in all the way. Before I call the dealer and setup an appointment, does anyone have any ideas? After reading pretty much all of the threads on the forums, it seems there is a lot of hit and miss with this unit, making me regret not going with an aftermarket unit.
Porsche didn't get this 100% right,- but pretty much nobody has. The Tesla forums, for example, are full of people complaining they have to reboot their phone, turn bluetooth on and off again, reboot the car, remove special characters from people in their contacts because the tesla would choke on the the special characters and lose connection when syncing contacts, change to a different phone, etc, etc, etc. Ditto for any manufacturer you choose, factory installed, or aftermarket. Some are better than others, but they all seem to have users with issues.
And so, for what its worth, most of the various 'hit and miss' issues the unit has are present in other units as well, and a number of the issues on the forums here are precisely because of prior aftermarket modifications.
Anyway are you by chance having sirius issues when carplay is also plugged in, or even when a phone is not attached to carplay? Or vice versa -- is carplay acting up if the Sirius unit is not plugged in? It could be just one interface is having an issue, but causing both connections to reset.
Have you tried rebooting your phone? (obvious question i know) I'd also suggest trying a wireless carplay adapter especially if you were thinking of going that route anyway. For my part, I did have a few connectivity glitches when i was using my phone plugged into the unit, and i suspect that it was due to the usb connection resetting / reconnecting / renegotiating power etc because the phone jostled a little when driving -- at least, that's one theory. I haven't had any issues since switching to a wireless adapter which is more securely planted than my phone was (and the wireless adapter likely draws a lot less power than my phone trying to charge itself -- and that might also be related)
Thanks for the quick reply.
So, I haven’t driven the car yet. I simply have it started either in the garage or the driveway (for Sirius satellite connection). I didn’t have the phone hooked up while doing the Sirius and I do have a wireless CarPlay adapter but it won’t work because the connection for the Appleplay won’t stay on long enough
I may try a factory reset on the PCCM Plus to see if that makes a difference. I just don’t know what the dealership will do for me, esp since I installed it. I’m sure they would use that as an excuse to not warranty it.
I should note, the satellite strength meter never goes below 1 bar. Two of my other cars of Sirius and also never lose connection at my house. And the wireless CarPlay adapter works in my other car, which has CarPlay. Just to rule out possibilities.
UPDATE
: I've read where some people just had everything start working without any changes. Welp, group me in with that. Out of the blue, carplay and sirius are both working. I won't question it or complain. It works, I'm happy.
Ive now read through most of the threads here on the PCCM Plus but so far have not come across a solution to my problem - no sound.
Car is a 2003 Turbo, US model. Originally had CDR23, CD changer and Bose. I bought a used PCM2 shortly after buying the car (PCCM Plus not available back then), swapped it for the CDR23 and it worked fine (did not go to Porsche to have it coded into the car).
Finally but the bullet on the PCCM Plus few weeks back as modern tech, look and CarPlay seemed nice to have. Had my independent Porsche shop put it in as they had the car anyway for a few days for new coilovers. Installation is done, all I tried seems to work (unit finds digital radio stations, CarPlay / navigation is working fine), however there is no sound
I have the Porsche instructions here, checked everything today myself and it looks like everything was done correctly.
Any guesses on what could be the reason for not having sound? It is not the CAN/AMP switch as the car has MOST - tried both settings today regardless but did not make a difference
PCM2 in place of CDR23 - did you have to do anything other than install and connect harnesses to get it to work? If plug and play - I would be interested in your PCM2..
-Tom
Aside from the work "around", i.e. putting the A/C control into the bottom console, adding GPS antenna etc. - yes, it was completely plug&play. If you have it coded into the system at Porsche, this will get you nav directions in the central display as well, but is not necessarily needed.
Happy to DM about my PCM2, however I am based in Europe (Munich) so not sure whether shipping plus potential import duties would make that a worthwhile transaction
Thanks for the suggestions, sadly same issue as before. All fuses are good.
I had another look at the instruction manual and got confused about the part of needing to attach a ground cable to the amp and changing PIN 17. It says this applies to 1997-2001 cars without MOST or with amp. Now, my car has MOST and an amp as part of the digital Bose system. Is it now needed to add the ground line and change pin 17 or not?
EDIT: having had another look at the car, it seems the new ground line to the amp is added (brown cable left side of the picture with the white label attached to it) but it's attached directly to the amp, instead of swapped for pin 17. Anyone recognises this view from their installations?
Hi
i think you are in the same boat as I am - my car had pcm 2 and Bose and most, and also no sound
2003 model turbo
when I have dug a little deeper was build date 2002 - which seems to make a difference
according to Porsche the amp needs grounded - which I tried - but no luck
literally left the car with Porsche Belfast there now will see how they get on and let you know
Brief update here - had some time yesterday to check the whole installation - everything seems to be done according to the manual, including the ground line connection to the amp which I questioned in my earlier post. I noticed that the pin 17 was "empty" before the ground line was put in, which left me a little puzzled as the instructions said it was the DSP cable originally in that spot. Generally, the connector looks quite empty on my car with only three cables as opposed to the ~18 shown in various pictures, including the instruction manual.
Seems I will need to bite the bullet and have Porsche look at it...
Had Porsche look at my PCCM Plus issue (everything works but no sound). Turns out the MOST box that came with my unit was faulty. They replaced it on warranty and everything should be working now (due to pick up the car next week)
Something to be aware of: If you have the wireless charging from Renn, it interferes with carplay wireless adapters. My phone had to be by the center console area in order to use the wireless Carplay. Disconnect the wireless charging and voila, no problems.
Also, my carplay adapter that came with the PCCM Plus was defective.
My issues:
2004 996 Bose

When plugging in an Android phone Samsung s21 Ultra, within seconds, once google Maps loads on the screen, the unit goes black and reboots.
The clock and date are completely wrong, and when adjusted, are slow and innacurate.
Bluetooth remains connected to "PCCM+" long after the ignition is off, after I walked away from the vehicle. Meaning, you walk out of the car, take the key out of ignition, and the Bluetooth phone connection doesn't switch off, it remains connected.
I used to install car stereos in college, and I must say I wish I never replaced the factory unit. This PCCM + is only visually nice, functionality is terrible. Not having HD radio in a $1400 unit is ridiculous. Any help tips updates are greatly appreciated.
Re android phone causing reboot when plugged in - bit of a work around, but also potentially you'd consider it an upgrade - i certainly did. I switched to an AndroidAuto wireless adapter since plugging in was a hassle i didn't want anyway. I give up charging in the car, but i gain not having to fuss with plugging it in. (AAwireless was the adapter i went with) and I haven't had any issues since; except for very occasionally spotify hangs up and i can't control it from the head unit. (and i blame spotify for that, since restarting spotify on the phone resolves it without unpairing or power cycling the head unit). Prior to that, while using it plugged in i didn't experience what you report, but i did encounter the odd reboot while driving. Since the wireless adapter went in its been solid as a rock. I personally suspect usb power draw / negotiating phone charging to be the root of the reboots, but that's just speculation.
"The clock and date are completely wrong, and when adjusted, are slow and innacurate." - I can't help you there at all. I don't have that issue at all.
"Bluetooth remains connected to "PCCM+" long after the ignition is off, after I walked away from the vehicle." - yeah, there's a fix for that -- turn off the "standby" feature in settings. It keeps the head unit powered on for X minutes after turning the ignition off. Turn it off and the phone will unpair within a second or two because the head unit is actually off. Also highly recommend this setting change if you go with a wireless android auto / car play adapter as it causes the same issue.
Hey Geckos! It's been a while, but I'm having the same issue -- the unit always says my car is always moving, and navigation and settings features are disabled. (I'm not even able to set the time of day!) I think you made a post that said suddenly everything was fine without you changing anything; were you able to reason out any cause more than that?
Some people here say that a speed signal is coming from the wiring harness, others say that there's a MEMS accelerometer in the head unit. I'm not sure how to track down a fix.
LATER: OMG, I figured it out. I had the four-pin microphone plug in the wrong connector on the back. Setting that right got everything working.
I seem to have gotten a very unique issue. Finally got the PCCM Plus, spent way too long installing only to realise... There's a connection on the radio side that's completely missing?
No home for this guy
What it looks like
What it should look like
Everything on the radio works, except the breakout USB box, so back to the seller for a refund/replacement, unless someone else has seen this before?
That's what I would do. The female connector for that plug should be in the rectangular window where you can see the blue PC board. Either the connector was missing or poorly soldered -- is it rattling around inside the case? Either way, I'd take it back for a replacement.
I read that this issue may be caused by the 4 pin connector of the microphone that is plugged into the wrong slot sending an erroneous signal to the unit.
My unit has had the red drive of the LED lighting fail so its green when amber is selected. I went into the extended menus and turned green and blue all the way down and saw that red is barely visible, adjusting it up makes no difference. Factory reset didn't correct the issue, I'm hoping the update might fix it but I suspect its a hardware issue, has anyone else noticed this issue?
Seems like there are some issues that have been popping up and I'm definitely curious if Porsche plans to release any upcoming software updates to the general public. With the miniSD card slot right there is should be a simple process to flash new firmware.
I have installed my PCCM+ recently in my 40AE car. It has Bose and MOST. It was pretty much plug and play but I would like clarification on the yellow squarish plug and where it goes. It seems like it takes up a portion of one of the black sockets but am not sure. My unit has been working but I still need to chase down the following bugs: 1) Unit needs to be manually turned on. Does not turn on and off with ignition. 2) The buttons and ***** do not illuminate despite changing up the color options and 3) The unit can sometimes turn off at random. Not often but has happened a few times. Besides this it has worked fine and the sound quality has been much improved going from my CDR-23.
but I would like clarification on the yellow squarish plug and where it goes.
You need that connection to the PCCM. That is your CAN bus which communicates with the instrument cluster to synch the PCCM clock to your system clock. It also provides real-time navigation data to the cluster, so the display will five you a visual turn-by-turn display if you have navigation coded into your cluster.
So, I did my PCCM+ install in my 03 coupe today and generally found it successful, but not without some issues. The biggest issue is that the USB breakout box on my unit appears to be dead. I can't get my phone (iPhone 14 Pro) to recognize that it's plugged into USB on either the power or phone sockets. It doesn't try and charge, let alone connect for carplay. Has anyone run into an issue where their USB box has been DOA?
Secondly, I had an issue where my car popped the fuse for power windows/central locking. I don't know why it happened, but I replaced the fuse and so far, so good. Anyone else had this issue?
Cheers,
Kyle
My USB box was DOA. Hope you didn't order it from Suncoast Porsche because they have the WORSE customer service. Told me that they had sold thousands of these units so it must be my fault and that I would have to take it to my local Porsche dealer and pay to have them check it. (later that month, the PCCM+ was put on hold by Porsche for other issues). Multimedia Interface is the official name and the part number is G91164551300. I ended up ordering this from Auto Atlanta for $90. I'll never order from Suncoast again, that's for sure.
Nope, ordered from Sunset Porsche which is usually pretty good, re: customer service. I asked about getting a replacement USB box separately and they said that there's no stock and no ETA. Did you actually get one from AutoAtlanta?
Installed the PCCM+ last Spring and am overall pretty happy. I experience the random trip odometer resetwhichwhatever.
but Ive noticed another odd issue - my dash clock consistently runs 4 minutes behind the PCCM. I reset the clockit resets itself to T minus 4. Its like it always wants me to be fashionably late.
anyone else get this one?

Hi guys
I am looking @ the back of the 996 pccm+, and I want to confirm that the 6-pin upper left hand corner harness is indeed always empty? There is nothing that came with the unit that plugs in there correct? I have circled exactly the harness in question.
the 6 pin is the standard video input for all android radios, including the 997 pccm+ which I have helped + confirm the pin layouts , enabling the 997 reverse camera function to work (with a modified harness) despite it being officially designed to support the oem 955 backup camera.
If the harness is indeed empty, Im guessing that porsche is using the same basic generic circuit board across the 996/997/955 pccm+ (as the rest of the hardware + android OS looks the same).
I'm trying to figure out if
1) the reverse trigger pin is still enabled on the 996 pccm+
2) if the analog video input + video GND pins are still enabled as well.
With the 2 above, backup camera will 100% work (for both auto + manual cars for any year 996).
3) If I can figure if the camera power pin still works too, then even better as the camera power can be directly controlled + supplied by the pccm+
Also, for those who have also went into the android BIOS of the 996 pccm+, is there any settings in there pertaining to a 'reverse camera' or 'reverse input?'
I'm fairly certain it is possible to definitively get to the bottom of this.
TY.
I know this is an old post, but curious on the PCCM resetting the onboard computer. Did you get this figured out? I'm in the process of installing mine now. I've got a tune on my car. If the computer resets, will I lose my tune?
I've got the post recall PCCM so curious to see if it still has any of these same issues people are reporting.
After much research on forums and YouTube, I took the plunge and installed the PCCM+ on my 996 (with Bose and MOST). I tried following the Porsche instructions as best I could but one item is still a mystery and makes me think that I made an error. The old unit nicely clicked into the support frame (to the point where it was even hard to remove). For this installation, I purchased the suggested metal retaining bar (996.552.653.04) and plastic front support Frame (996.552.231.12.01C).
The radio goes into the plastic support frame and then it fits into the plastic guides that are part of the metal retaining bar. However, the radio never clicks into either the front support frame or metal retaining bar. I can easily pull on it and the whole thing comes back out. I don't have any left over parts and see no way to secure the PCCM+ to the plastic support frame. What am I missing?
Plastic guides on metal retaining bar.
Installed unit that is not secured to anything apparently.
Thank you for confirming that I am not totally loosing my mind! Mine feels very loose, almost to the point where quickly accelerating would cause it to slip out. I might line those plastic guides with some electrical tape to tighten that connection and create some friction.
Are you sure that you have the
plastic front support Frame mounted correctly to the PCCM frame? If its not, it will slide easily out of the dash.
so you need to assemble the
PCCM
in the original PCM frame the old one locks into but you need to take the frame out the car entirely and drop the
PCCM
into into it, the radio only, at this point doesn't have the bracket with the shelf installed. Next you need to face the radio down on a table while in the frame and now assembled the brackets with the shelf, the brackets have tabs that are used to lock the radio in place against the frame by sandwiching it between these tabs and the frame for the radio.
For this last bit its best to build the shelf but leave the screws slightly loose, the you can on each side push the brackets against the frame tight and tighten the screws. If done correctly the radio holds in the frame with no wiggle at all, more secure than the old spring tabs.
THANK YOU!!! Your highlights and description finally made the penny drop. I did not do this part correctly. I simply slid the plastic frame over the radio and metal bracket and it was not connected at all. As you can see in the second picture, now the metal tabs are tightly against the radio, holding it in place.
Before - not connected at all.
Overexposed to show the metal tab against the bracket.
After with USB cable coming in from the passenger side of center console.
I was thinking the same thing, the 997.1 classic radio uses those connectors /locations for the back up camera (as you mention). I plan to install the back up camera this weekend on my 997.1 classic radio.
I would think if you have the cables and connectors from the 997.1 classic radio kit it may also work with the 996 classic radio (why else would the connectors on the back of the unit be there same).
Hi guys.
So far I have thoroughly studied many posts of people that have installed a PCCM plus unit in their 996 and I finally got my hands on a unit myself. But now the hick ups are coming and in my case coming big time so that I nearly consider returning the unit and leave it as is. But before I throw in the towel I would appreciate some insight from people that have done this before and maybe have some advice.
The Car:
996.2 Turbo 2001, Analog audio system (klangpaket) with Haes amplifier and originally shipped with CD changer in trunk. Based on my research and existing mounting frame the car was
not
having a PCM1 but had a Becker CDR-220 installed. The car spent its life for many years in Japan and has there been equipped with a Pioneer avh-x5800 dab (no carplay) which I now want to replace with a PCCM+
The issues:
1. PCCM with tray and Y mount sits loose in the frame and cant seem to be fixed
. It also sits not flush at the bottom of the frame. It seems like the distance between the tabs on the Y mount and frame is too big so it never fixates. I would like to avoid buying a new frame since mine is grey and its hard to come by. It has been used on the pioneer unit before and therefore has been "converted" from a 1Din to 2Din by cutting the middle piece and some pieces at the edge. Am I simply not getting how it should hold together (yes I read the post right above by @
mffarrell
) or is the opening the PCCM slots in just too wide? Will I deed to fix it another way? More insight @
mffarrell
Underside not flush with frame
tabs to far away to press against frame
tabs to far away to press against frame
2. and probably the biggest issue at hand is that the previous installers of the Pioneer unit chopped and spliced the original wiring
What they did do is leave the connectors and parts of the cable assembly of the original Becker CDR 220 in. Am I right in the assumption that I can reverse engineer the cabling by wiring it back to the original layout based on the cables and colours that are still pinned in the connectors? Am I right that I only need the black Iso connector and the yellow connector from the CDR220 for the PCCM?
Helpful for me was already reading this thread
PCCM+ install woes
and looking at the wiring diagrams shared there. But I`m a novice when it comes to wiring so I rather ask.
Black ISO connector, seems wired like original pin layout except for one chopped cable?
CDR 220 connector. chopped a bit further up but cabling seems to go to original pin position
That for now as a start! All help is much appreciated!
An update from here. To my big surprise I managed to crimp the wiring for the yellow connector back together and the black Iso connector even powers the PCCM+ Horray!
There are two things that I struggle with.
1. I have the Haes amp in the trunk. That means that I have to have the volume setting on AMP correct? Because on CAN i just get a long loud beeping sound.
2. When I switch on Ignition the unit boots up, but while doing so it is popping loudly the speakers twice. Once on start of the boot once right before its done. What can this be related to? I do get sound otherwise without interference but that loud pop makes me mad.
I am waiting for the ground line for the AMP. Is it amplifier related?
Welcoming all input!
Thanks for the reply @
pdxmotorhead
You might be right. I looked closer on the wiring diagram and my yellow C1 connector has one line that I could not crimp to anything since the cable seemed to be gone and that is the red/black 12V+switched cable that originally should go to the Amp. I dont know what the previous installers have done to it but will see if it is to be found at the amp connector in the trunk.
Because by my logic the amp should then get the signal from the PCCM when to start not from ignition?
Hey Guys,
I'm anticipating putting a PCCM plus in my 2004 996T - which has the later PCM2.1 Double DIN with CD Player... So i know for the install i dont have to worry about a few steps, but from reading through pages and pages of installs, i'm just wondering if it will be somehow 'plug and play' without all the little nuances everyones having to deal with with converting from older single din units etc etc?
Should i attempt this myself, or just leave it up to a professional? I'm new to this, so does anyone have a straightforward video or proper DIY guide for cars with the later double din?
Hi all. Just installed the PCCM+ in my 2003 Turbo. I'm pleased to say that with ample research and pre-reading, it was a pretty straightforward install. I have Bose but did not need to do anything with the amp. Being a US car, I just plugged in the MOST box and I was set. I did not opt for maps so I did not install the GPS antenna. Likewise I skipped the external microphone based on what I read about internal vs external microphone sound quality. I modified my DIN1 frame to fit, and that was the only part that wasn't really covered very well. There is a YouTube video where a guy does a similar install, but I did it a little differently and am happy with the results.
I am having one very minor issue that is just an annoyance, but I'm hoping to figure out how to resolve anyways. That is that the language appears to be UK English and the date format is DD/MM/YYYY rather than the US style of MM/DD/YYYY. I see where I can change the time format between 12/24 hours, but nothing for the date format. Likewise, I can only choose from English or French in the language settings. I've poked around in the hidden menu but couldn't find anything relevant. Has anybody else encountered this and/or figured out how to change it?
Sometimes sound and sometimes not!
I have a problem that I haven’t read anywhere about yet. And believe me I’ve searched. Installed my PCCM+ a few months ago and haven’t got it to work properly due to a lot of small problems. Thanks to this thread I now only left with one problem. 2003, C2, Bose, Most.
When I listen to music the sound cuts off after a few minutes and later starts again. Sometimes when I put on the PCCM+ sound doesnt even start at all but then after 5-20 minutes starts without any notice and then again cuts off after five/ten minutes, and this repeats itself (mostly off thou). Feels like some sort of electrical fuse/over heating issue (not even warm). The unit seems to work fine so the problem must be with amplification. No difference if it is Spotify, radio or anything else. Dont see it being bad wiring either since it is either on or off. No difference if the car is moving or even engine on.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Did you check the CAN/AMP setting in the PCCM? Given your car spec, this should be set to "CAN". Your problem sounds somewhat similar to mine (everything worked fine except for the unit shutting off every 15-20min, regardless of input type). Switching that setting to CAN solved it for me and everything works perfectly fine now
Did the radio work fine before you installed the PCCM? If so, my guess is a faulty PCCM. Since you have Bose and MOST, the PCCM should just be plug and play.
Thanks for the reply! Sadly the first thing I did was to throw out the PCM. But you are right of course, it should be plug and play. I would hope that the amplifier have some sort of electronic fuse or that the optic converter had something similar.
Im in the car now and after about five minutes i got Dio. So why the cutouts?
Sure I checked that everything was working when I bought it. But now in hindsight not that much since I bought it late autumn and had a few projects to look forward to during winter. Not my first 996 or even 986.
Tough to diagnose if you're not sure if the radio worked properly to begin with. If it was me, I'd probably start by swapping out the PCCM for a new one. If the new one has the same issue, then you'll know its something wrong with the sound system. Do you have the ability to exchange the PCCM? Call who you bought it from and say it's faulty?
I am still struggling to mount the metal bracket securely against the plastic frame. I pressed the metal tab against the frame and tightened the screws. It is secure, but radio will shift with some pressure. How did you secure the metal tabs? As of now, it is sitting on top of the plastic
Here's a picture of the side.
Hi mate,
I did mIne in a really strange way, I basically used two equally sized pieces of plastic to fill the gap and secured them with thick double sided tape
Kind regards
@bobthejob
Do you still have the connect2 cable? I assume it is the
https://connects2.com/Product/Produc...MPPASSTHROUGH?
If so, I'd be willing to buy it. I have installed the PCCM+ in a 997.1 and have been chasing a gain / white noise issue. I'm willing to try anything at this point. Did you resolve your issue? Thanks in advance.
I can't remember how or where I got this but I found it invaluable when I installed PCCM+ in MY 2000 with PCM1, standard sound system and CD changer in frunk.
Quick question here - if you have the standard Becker radio, no amp, no cd changer (ie non-MOST) do you even need to install the MOST box with optical loop for the PCCM+ install? I have a 99 996 Cab with the basic radio option, Becker tape deck, four speakers - no amp, no Bose.
I have a camera with the 6-pin connector that works on a 997 but does not work on my 996 Turbo with PCCM Plus. I've been trying to figure this out (off and on as I have time) and have come up with a couple of thoughts. Hardware wise (inputs/outputs), the 996 PCCM+ looks identical to the 997 PCCM+. Since the reverse camera input is there already, I'm thinking:
1) There could be a way to enable the input in the base OS. I've gotten down to the underlying Android system through developer options but I'm not sure if something like that would reside in the kernel or firmware?
2) If it is software based, then there could be a way to install the 997 PCCM Plus software over the 996 software. I'm not sure if there are protections from ripping it but maybe it could be cloned from a 997, then installed on the 996. I've no idea where to find the software for it in the wild that could be installed onto the unit.
If anyone in here is super Android savvy and can chime in with some thoughts, it'd be greatly appreciated!
If the 996 PCCM+ unit has the same connectors on the back as the 997 unit then I believe there might be a software limitation in place. In the hidden dev menu in the radio, there is a function on the 997 unit to detect and search for a connected camera. Once you enable it, it will ask you to put the car in reverse. I went to check for the same option on my 996 unit and it was not there.
I'd be careful with installing a 997 PCCM+ software/firmware on the 996 unit, assuming you can actually get the file. Getting the latest file for the 996 unit that fixes some of the small bugs, including the trip odometer reset has been next to impossible, sadly. The hidden dev menu has a button to perform a firmware update.
I have a 996 TTS and leaning towards installing the classic radio. Hoping someone can help answer some basic questions.
1) do both USB inputs connect to CarPlay? Or only the left one? If so, is the right USB only for charging?
2) if you put the box in the cubby (like Porsche suggests), is there enough room to also put your phone? Fully?, without risk of the phone falling out?
3) where are people putting the mic & gps antenna? Ive heard its possible to connect these to preexisting mic / antenna so that it looks fully built-in? Is that easy? Standard?
thank you!
Only one USB is for CarPlay, the second one is for charging and pendrives (I've never used it, as I keep my music files on the SD card, but I'm pretty sure that's what an "USB" option when you choose "media" input on the radio is for).
I've put the box behind the center console, near passenger feet - fits perfectly under the air vent (I used the velcro tape to avoid drilling etc). It's basically invisible and the cubby can be used for anything else
I have the GPS antenna installed somewhere (dunno where - I wasn't installing it myself, but I'm pretty sure the old ones are not compatible) and the mic on the steering column - doesn't bother me at all.
I'm in the same boat flip flopping between PCCM+ and aftermarket as well. What's frustrating is that Porsche Classic just threw this thing out on the market and it seems like there are lots of issues related to install and also operation. And they are not likely incentivized to make any improvements.
Hi All - Installed a PCCM+ into my 2004 C4S (Bose, MOST, no CD changer) this weekend and for the most part everything went smoothly and most of the functionality is perfect. A big thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread, as I read it many times beforehand and it made things much easier.
However, the one thing that isn't perfect is the fact I don't have sound. I know, this has been posted and solved many times but hear me out (yes, I'm on CAN).
I think - but can't confirm - that the MOST adapter box is faulty. As connected (with everything confirmed seated firmly), there is no red light emitting from the MOST box when powered up (yes, the safety tab has been pulled). I plugged the original Becker back in to see if the MOST connection on it lights up when power is on the car, and it does - and it plays sound just like before. However, the MOST box on the PCCM doesn't light up at all, and the speakers are silent as can be (no hissing, static, etc).
How common do we think a faulty MOST box (or adapter cable) is? I've seen maybe one in this thread.
Also, I have the amp in the frunk by the spare tire and I don't believe this is one that can be or needs to be grounded. See pic and tell me if any of you have grounded this type.
@ZuffenZeus
any thoughts on the need to ground this particular amp? It doesn't have the 18-pin I've seen in other pics or in the TSB. And, I have no kind of sound at all and no red light from the MOST box (but I did get the grounding wire delivered from Suncoast as part of my order).
Thank you - that's what I thought.
Can anyone confirm that the MOST box connected to the PCCM will emit the red fiber optic light when power is put on? Maybe someone noticed that during their install or can confirm in an upcoming install. My experience with fiber optic (mostly home theater) has always been that the emitter lights up when powered up, regardless of whether it is transmitting data (sound) or not.
Again, when I plugged the black plug (that includes 12V power) back into the CDR-23 as a test, the female MOST slot on the back of the CDR immediately lit up with the red fiber optic signal. When I put the black plug back to the PCCM, nothing.
If anyone has an unused MOST box and cable from a PCCM kit (due to installing in a non-MOST car) and would like to sell, please DM me.
I had this same issue two weeks ago. We discovered that the fiber cable wasn't connected to the MOST box. We pulled the gray protective piece out of the box and plugged in the fiber cable and boom, we had sound. There should be two cables connected to that box. Didn't know that at first.
Thanks for the suggestion - I wish it were that simple in my case! Everything is connected correctly, including both cables plugged in to the MOST box; I'm just trying to determine if my MOST box was DOA.
With power on the unit and the MOST box connected directly to the PCCM, I believe that with the gray protective plug pulled there should be a red light coming from the receptacle (where you plug the MOST cable from the car into). In my case there is not.
If it's not the MOST box itself, then it's a faulty PCCM+ unit that's not sending power/signal to the MOST box - though everything else is working exactly as it should. Given I bought it from Suncoast and installed it myself, I'm going to be screwed if it's a faulty PCCM.
To close out my issue above, it was indeed a faulty MOST box. Was able to source a new one overnight from Porsche Clearwater, plugged it in to the PCCM, got the red light (!), plugged in the MOST cable, and had sound. Everything else is working as advertised.
With that, I can confirm as others have that it is truly plug and play for my model as equipped. 2004 C4S, Bose, MOST, no CD Changer. AND, as others have noted it has really opened up the sound - much, much better than before. Much more low end, much louder, fuller overall sound.
Fingers crossed that it continues to operate without any issues. Appreciate the inputs above!
Hi guys,
I'm driving a 2003 C4 Cabrio with PCM 2.0, Most and M680.
I installed the PCCM last weekend but I'm having a couple of issues.
no auto turn on/off with the ignition
no illumination of the buttons
screen turns black after 32 minutes and the music stops
no clock sync with the gage cluster clock
Sound works great though!
I couldn't insert one plug, is that to blame?
Thanks!
So the Bose Amp is slowly on its way out in my 40AE where I have PCCM+ installed. It's a MOST car. Primarily during cold weather I get no sound, which tends to reappear once I cycle the radio on and off. Is anyone running an aftermarket amp with their PCCM+ with MOST? Curious how much of a pita it was to complete or if I'm stuck getting a new/refurbished Bose amp.
There's a few posts earlier in this thread noting that the yellow plug supplies the CAN BUS signals from the car, which operate the auto on/off, illumination, clock sync, etc. Try to get that plugged in and see if that fixes the issue.
Hello All
Just installed PCCM+, have a few issues Im trying to diagnose. 911 is a MY00 C2 6spd Hi-Fi Audio, pre-MOST. CDR-220 was original and didnt show any signs of being out before. Installer initially couldnt get audio from the unit but once he disconnected and reconnected the battery audio worked.
PCCM thinks car is in motion and wont allow access to the settings page. Some say their external microphone was plugged into the wrong port and that was causing the problem for them. Others have said a bad GPS antenna can cause this?
At higher volume audio there is a bit of static noise at the front.
PCCM clock not syncing with gauge cluster clock (idk if its supposed to in a pre-most car).
Unit doesnt sit flush with underside curved trim (see last photo). Is it supposed to? If so Ill make sure the installer fixes this when he takes the unit out to diagnose.
Thank You 🏁
Bradley
OK, PO installed (or had someone install) the PCCM+ in my 2004 Turbo. My only issue is that it has constant power. I download the install sheet PDF, but it doesn't tell where power goes into/comes from. I am in the middle of doing the blend doors and would love to fihgue this out before I button it up. I am not an electrical genius (or any kind of a genius for that matter), so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Pics of wiring and back of unit (duh). Thanks !
PCCM Plus fitted in a 99MY 996 with factory amp:
System works well and have wireless CarPlay up and running, but it has always had the random shut down and reboot issue from day one, usually with the pop sound in the speakers.
Does anyone have a software update on SD or as an image available, my local Porsche dealer just looks at me with a blank expression on his face when I ask about any updates and then proceeds to offer me a map SD card. Does an official update even exist, any part numbers available etc?
@pezza
- an update does exist but most dealers are clueless or just not interested in helping. That's been my experience. The support has been abysmal. An update does indeed exist. Let us know if you manage to get your hands on it...
@Dozer_Dawg
I know its been a while but Im running into the same issue as you did and would just like to confirm something.
When you got the new MOST box, with the fiber cables unplugged on the car side, you have light emitting from the MOST box?
Thats how my CDR23 works, just a constant red light from the head unit, but my PCCM unit that just showed up has the light flicker on for a second and then stays off.
Follow up to my problem above - the issue was my amplifier.
After a lot of searching, it seems some of the early Bose amplifier firmware is not compatible with PCCM+. Sounds like if your amp part number ends in 01/02/03, its not compatible. Mine ended in 02.
My problem - I would get about 5 seconds of sound and then the amp seemed to shutdown. Could get it to work for another 5 seconds by toggling the hidden volume setting from CAN to AMP, but itd just shutdown again.
Purchased a refurbished Bose amp and everything works as advertised now.
