And when the mechanic who replaced the solenoids had to remove the headers, not a single bolt broke or needed to be tapped out.
Leading evidence: 'Replace solenoids had' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace roughly $100 and youll be happy' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I dont really have any rust, except for what looks like a few parts that a mechanic replaced while doing work 2 years ago on my solenoid replacements.

They charged me $220 and used Galvanized 1.5 or 1.75 pipe, then spray paint heat treated it.

I used galvanized carriage bolts and nuts from Lowes for the sleeve clamps so they hold up better.

I dont think the carriage bolts used on the sleeve clamp are stainless, though.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is the stock exhaust system on a 996 fully stainless steel?
I dont really have any rust, except for what looks like a few parts that a mechanic replaced while doing work 2 years ago on my solenoid replacements. One of the put an Audi exhaust clamp, and the other, who knows what brand it is - its rusted all over. Id like to replace these clamps, as they are both visible from behind the car and it looks unsightly.
Anyone know of the stock Porsche clamps are stainless or have anti-corrosion materials applied to them (bolts included)?

As you see the original clamps dont rust (not sure if theyre stainless or just treated/coated). This is clearly not the case with the replacement (which Im sure the mechanic made a hefty profit on). While the stock clamps are expensive, there are only two of them... replace both for roughly $100 and youll be happy when you look at the car from behind (everyones favorite view...😃
I read somewhere here on RL that most of the OEM bolts, nuts and washers on this car are also treated with a corrosion inhibitor. Nice. This is what separates the 911 from regular cars. I think a lot of folks dont know this and use new bolts and pieces from other sources. This is also another reason why sometimes OEM is the way to go with Porsche.
I had to remove the mufflers on my car to get the Gundo/Fister hack completed, and I had zero issues taking apart the exhaust.
And when the mechanic who replaced the solenoids had to remove the headers, not a single bolt broke or needed to be tapped out. Im sure having the better bolts in there made that more possible of an outcome.
Im also thinking about what I might want to spend for a new exhaust system. Id want full stainless and something that reduces the weight, but not willing to drop $6k on titanium or even $4k on something else.
I believe the tubing, mufflers, and sleeves are stainless. I dont think the carriage bolts used on the sleeve clamp are stainless, though. Neither are the exhaust tip clamps.
I recently did a DIY Fister mod and replaced
the carriage bolts and tip clamps. I needed bolt extractors to remove both. I used galvanized carriage bolts and nuts from Lowes for the sleeve clamps so they hold up better.
I did. Believe it or not, I had mine done at SuperMAX Muffler & Brakes, 6230 W. North Avenue, Chicago, IL 60639. Phone is [phone removed]. They charged me $220 and used Galvanized 1.5 or 1.75 pipe, then spray paint heat treated it. I dont think it was perfect, but it still sounds good 5 years later.
