Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

36 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tim said in my previous thread that there was a "phone plug" in the center console. Anybody have an idea what it looks like or where exactly it is located? I was going to tap into the cig lighter plug but that is constant power. TIA!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Who me? I don't mod my cars. Stock is where it's at!

POST 7Original post

Dell - you have to remove the center console to get at it, the rear one with the shifter in it. B&M's site has good instructions on how to do this for the short shifter install. Once it is off you will be able to see the phone wires/connector.

POST 8Original post

do we know why the lighter is not a switched outlet ? it's a pain in the a** to have to disconnect my ipod charger all the time.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Really? I thought it was in the middle console under where the radio is. I'm so confused So those people that need to suck down a cancer stick with the ignition off have a place to light it

POST 10Original post

If you pull out the top cubby or CD holder, you will find what you are looking for. Maybe. It may not be switched. There is 12V across the two outer sockets with the key off. This is OK for my purposes, which is to wire up an auxillary dual power socket. I don't mind the cell phone charging with the engine shut off. Anyway, this may get you started.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the pics Rick. I'm going to check it out this morning.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Success. FYI....you only have to removed the right side leather panel and side carpeted panel. That's all. You will see the 4 wire connector just sitting in the middle. You'll want to test with a test light as well but I can tell you the following: Front Left to Right in my Picture: Wire#1 Brown NOTHING Wire#2 Yellow NOTHING Wire#3 Green SWITCHED Wire#4 Red CONSTANT

POST 15Original post

So Dell, will you choose door #3 or door #4 for your application? No wonder our porsches are so heavy, too many runs of 'extra' wire and couplings.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since I do NOT want charging while the car is off, I chose door #3 (switched)

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 7584244

Thanks Dell! I saw that doing my fan mod when installing the switches on the bat wing for the fans. Since I didn't know, I just covered it up..

Dell, Tim (Picture *****) here! Just getting caught up on threads. I see you located the wiring in the upper center center console!

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 7584244

To further this: Brown - Ground Yellow - mute signal to radio Green - Switched 12v Red - Unswitched 12v

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for being more specific

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 7586794

You are able to get to this 4 wired plug without unscrewing anything via 'a pull away carpetted triangular side panel' by your right calf when seated in the driving position(LHD). It is hanging down on it's own. BTW thanks for the info. I wondered what this plug could be used for. Now i know thanks to these postings and marked it up accordingly. PS sorry.. I see that posting #14 says just the same as I am saying. I discovered mine when I was removing an old hard wired Radar detector. Thanks to you guys I hard wired my newer Cobra Radar detector into the ignition switch part last night. Plan on doing the same to my tom tom GPS today so they are both controlled via the ignition. Saves all this plugging and unplugging into the cig lighter. The other day I did some spirited driving and on arriving home discovered that I had not plugged the tom tom into the lighter. That can't happen again.

POST 22Original post

Great helpful (old) thread that needs a bump with a question. How do you tap into that? What connectors are those?

POST 23Original post

OK - so you didnt "plug" into those connectors then. Thats easier (but maybe not as clean?)!

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 10645689

Thank you Adker - I will try to source that locally.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 10645652

Did anyone figure this out? The constant on mine works fine - but the switched wire is not getting power even when the car is running. I'm using it for the remote turn on for a tiny sub behind the drivers seat - the main power is a wire straight to the battery.

POST 29Original post

Pretty sure that it is a 10Amp fuse. try fuse E6 & 8, are you sure that you are connected to the green wire? fuse map in this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...any-ideas.html

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 14774277

Yep - its the only one with green on it though it does have a black stripe. Whats weird is the constant wire works just fine - only the switches on isnt getting any power regardless of ignition position.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 14774308

That IS weird. I used the pigtail from Becker Autosound. Into the stock phone plug. I mounted a dual USB plug in the center cubby. One switched and one unswitched and they both work fine.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 14774277

Upon further inspection - my E8 fuse had the tiniest of hairline breaks in it. So for those in the future - E8 is the switched wire. Thanks!!!

Revival from the dead. Is this 4pin car kit plug a MOLEX-type connector?

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 17874849

Unfortunately not, and it appears Becker (the one in NJ) stopped selling them. I resorted to coming up with my own using a 3D printer.

POST 35Original post

Yaz, How did the 3D printed plug work out?

POST 36Original post

"Is this 4pin car kit plug a MOLEX-type connector?" Just chop off the factory connector and install a Molex, then have fun!
