I installed my front wheel on the rear of my car and there are no clearance issues with the caliper (or anything of course).

I ran 17mm OE spacers on the rear with my 10x18 winter wheels.

I know it's a bit early to be thinking about winter but does anyone know if I can fit Porsche recommended rear winter tires ( 265/35/18) on my stock C4S 11" wide rims?

Suggestion
I prefer to run 265's because the wider the wheel the more it floats on top of the snow rather then cut though it.

Suggestion
I assume that it is not a problem to run the exact same rolling diameter on front and rear.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know it's a bit early to be thinking about winter but does anyone know if I can fit Porsche recommended rear winter tires ( 265/35/18) on my stock C4S 11" wide rims?
Or do I go with 295/35/18 and different fronts?
Thanks
Porsche recommends dropping down to a 10x18 rear wheel for the 265mm width rear tire. That's what I did with my C4S.
It's not too early. We'll have snow here in 6 - 8 weeks. Waxing my skis already....
I'm in the same boat and am going to try find a way to fit them on my 11" rears since the car will be stored in my garage over the winter. I just want snow tires in the off chance something may happen since we have a lot of stuff going on.
I got hollow spokes recently for summers
Want to use stock solid spoke turbo twists for winters
Don't like the look of the 10" wheels on the back
Don't feel like running spacers
Just seeing if anyone tried
Would be a bit of stretch but should fit
Anyone out there that runs 265s on a 11" rim?
I've run to 265's on the stock 11" wheel. It works the tires are stretched but within maximum allowed. The wheels edge which sticks out a bit and could easily get curb rash because the side walls do not protect them.
Can we got as wide as a 275 or 285 without rubbing issues? I wouldn't go as far as a 295, but also don't want to stretch that much if I do t have to. Thanks in advance.
275 or 285 would fit better on the 11" wheel but still need to make sure that the front and rear rolling diameter are within 5% so it doesn't effect the awd system.
If your not doing serious winter driving then the 295's will do. I prefer to run 265's because the wider the wheel the more it floats on top of the snow rather then cut though it.
The car is going to be garaged for the winter, and I haven't decided on getting a seasonal beater. We have my wife's wagon can and will do all of the ski trips, grocery store/Home Depot runs, but we are without a "Plan B" if I have to visit clients, etc. It happens infrequently, but frequently enough that I don't want to be caught out on even plowed roads on Sumis.
Dennis - I have not seen a 295 rear winter.
Jumper - what is the benefit of floating versus cutting through snow? It seems counter-intuitive to want to float on snow in a torque-y car.
There is no benefit to floating. It has less rear traction and the rear comes out easier. This is why I prefer the 265's but the 295's will do well in winter temps on dry to lightly covered snow roads.
Right now I think only Pirelli has 295's Winter Sottozero Series II
I have a newly acquired '03 C4S.
I need dedicated snow tires this winter. Period.
My car takes 265/35-18 as the factory spec for the rears in snow tires.
I have not been able to find this size yet in snows.
The good news is that I have not bought the 8x10 wheels they are supposed to go inside of those 265s, so I have to figure out exactly what I am doing before I buy winter wheels.
I'm thinking about running a square set up, use the same size on the rears as there is on the front.
I know it won't look good. I'm not worried about that.
I installed my front wheel on the rear of my car and there are no clearance issues with the caliper (or anything of course).
I assume that it is not a problem to run the exact same rolling diameter on front and rear. The factory summer sizes are slightly taller in front (than the rear) and the winter sizes are slightly taller in the rear (than the front).
I figure my car will be unstoppable in the snow with 225s all the way around (except for snow so high that I cannot plow it away with the front end).
Am I missing something here?
What do you think of this???
I might be "switching gears" so to speak.
A 225/40-18 has a calculated diameter of 25.09 inches.
A 245/40-18 has a calculated diameter of 25.72 inches.
The 245 is 2.5% larger than the 225.
Is that difference too much for the all wheel drive to handle?
Will that 245, with it's extra height, cause any problems on the rear of an '03 996 Carrera 4S?
Thanks for your help.
It has been a few years since I bought them. I bought the Blizzaks from
www.wheelenhancement.com
. When those were worn, I bought the Pirellis from

Good luck with your search!
It was nice meeting you in Northbrook yesterday - good looking C4S! This site is a great source of information and advise for the DIY 996. Hope you enjoy yours to its fullest. - John.
John,
You found me !
Great meeting you too.
Funny how you should mention Rennlist.com thru my window at a stoplight on the day I had made my first post. That is a coincidence.
PM me when in town next and we'll have a beer (or pepsi) in my garage.
Mark
Ended up just going with the 18"x10" rears I have (dedicated winter rims bought used) and brand new Pirelli sottozero 240 winters in 265/35/18 for the back
Front are 225/40/18s Pirelli 240s on 18x 8 1/2 rims
Decided not to mount the winters on the stock 8" fronts and 11" wide rear solid turbo twists
Looking forward to spring when I'll get to try out those newly acquired hollow spoke turbo twists
They're noticeably lighter than the solid spokes
Now only if they made Michelin PILOT SUPER SPORTS in 295/30/18......
