Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Looks like a bank 2 head rebuild with all the springs and lifters replaced among other parts.

Recommend: Change out the oil again inspect the filter for metal bits.

Suggestion
Yes but you should inspect the filter 1st & then stick your finger into the hole where the filter mounts to search for metal.

Will the repair/parts warranty carry over to the new owner?

In reviewing the documentation kept by the prior owner, I came across this receipt from an October 2015 repair on the car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm new to Porsches and am about to become the proud owner of a 2003 996 C2. I've been lurking on this forum for the past few weeks and I thank you all for the crash course on the ins and outs of these wonderful cars.
In reviewing the documentation kept by the prior owner, I came across this receipt from an October 2015 repair on the car. I have a decent knowledge of cars but when we start talking compression, timing and lifters...well, I get dumb fast. I'd appreciate your expert opinions about the nature of these repairs and any concerns I should have going forward as the new owner.
(One background item: IMSB/RMS/clutch were replaced in June 2015, so that should not be an issue for me.)
Thanks in advance for your help...
Looks like a bank 2 head rebuild with all the springs and lifters replaced among other parts. Basically 2k parts + 3.5k labor + 1k diagnostic.
Will the repair/parts warranty carry over to the new owner?
Sounds like really bad luck to the previous owner. He just invested in RMS/IMS/clutch in June only to have a valve spring crapped out on him a few months later...costing him $6.5k to diagnose and repair it.
Yes, bad luck indeed - perhaps that is why he decided to sell. I just hope the major issues have been addressed.
When I take possession of the car next week I will have it aligned and then replace the tires.
Concerns would be the possibility of any metal left in the engine from a lifter / valve failure. It seems they were concerned enough to replace all the exhaust lifters but why not the carrier? But changed the chain rails? (timing problem suspect)
The previous owner immediately sold the car?
Recommend: Change out the oil again inspect the filter for metal bits. There are a lot of small oil passages in these engine. Metal in these could be a bad thing.
Yes but you should inspect the filter 1st & then stick your finger into the hole where the filter mounts to search for metal. If you find any don't buy the car!!
I wonder if the trouble started when the IMSB was changed by screwing up the cam timing?
So he spent $6,500 fixing Bank 2. I'll bet he asked the question "could this happen on Bank 1 also?" and didn't hear the answer he wanted so is now cutting his losses. Doesn't mean it WILL happen, just no guarantee it won't. You see it often - somebody spends a bunch of money on repairs and then sells the car because they think the car is bad luck. Not limited to the 996 or Porsche - I've seen it with Fords and Chevys.
