Suggestion

One possibility to get them back to former glory is by disassembling the headblight and rinse (only rinse!) using methylated spirits to remove deposits on the silver reflector layer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Good Day All looking to boost the headlight power on my 996, I've got crappy night vision and need to light up the road a little more so my night drives are not terror filled lol. not looking to change the distinctive lamp style just the inner workings, maybe an LED or Xenon swap, what's every ones preferred or suggested product Thanks tons Jason

POST 3Original post

Have a similar issue with my '99 halogen headlights. Does anyone modify the internals to accept a more modern light? I know jack sh*t about lights/wiring.

POST 4Original post

Order a Set of BEVINSEE V45... they were not that much expensive and work fine. Great Light Output.

POST 5Original post

Im using these Auxito low/high/fog bulbs in my 2000 996 w/halogens. They are great but be careful as the wiring harness insulation inside your lights will be cracked and flaking apart forcing you to either new harness or to repair them. I did the latter and it was a nightmare. Once the cooper wires are exposed you will have wires touching and short circuits. The reason for low output is the halogen reflectors are worn out after 20+ years. So even new LEDs will not be perfect but 200% better. Here is the place to go for retrofit kits and new wiring harness. https://retrofitlab.com/collections/...11-996-1-986-1

One possibility to get them back to former glory is by disassembling the headblight and rinse (only rinse!) using methylated spirits to remove deposits on the silver reflector layer. It is vapour deposited silver and as such a very very thin layer that is easily damaged by rubbing it. If the silver has oxidised and dull then rinsing won't do, obviously and only recoating them gets them as new. A lens with the Mk1 halogen typical brown burn marks and milky headlight covers swallow a large chunk of emitted light as well.

Do the retrofit labs upgrade/update. Well worth the money - great upgrade!
