My knee-jerk thought is to replace the relay, but it's a solid state unit and I'm having a hard time believing it would flip in/out of proper operation.

One thing I have found is that if I pull the relay and re-insert it, with the car running, the system goes back to working normally.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My PSE has taken to deciding whether to be on or off all by itself. It won't listen to the dashboard switch that is supposed to control it. My car is a 2002 targa, factory equipped with the Porsche Sport Exhaust option (PSE) (option code XLF). The car did not originally come with a dashboard button to control the PSE, which was strange because all of the wiring and connectors and so on were all there -- just no button. I added the button myself, and also modified the relay to prevent the annoying issue of PSE turning itself off between ~35MPH and ~50MPH. Everything has been working fine for a year or so. Until recently. The issue manifests itself as PSE being either off or on, seemingly at random, when the car is first started. The button no longer controls whether it is on or off. I thought maybe the speed-related override had somehow glitched out, but examination of the relay shows that not to be the case. One thing I have found is that if I pull the relay and re-insert it, with the car running, the system goes back to working normally. Looking for ideas or what have you. My knee-jerk thought is to replace the relay, but it's a solid state unit and I'm having a hard time believing it would flip in/out of proper operation.

POST 2Original post

Mine stopped workingI couldnt close exhaust. My valves were stuck open from a little corrosion. A little wd40 and getting them un stuck worked. maybe🤷🏻

Thanks for the reply. My valves move freely, probably because they were opening/closing constantly when the speed sensor was active plus I tend to hit the button pretty often now that it's not. Also, in the current situation, if I pull the relay and then plug it back in I get full function again. So I tend not to think it's a stuck valve.
