Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

No 1010 of 1963
Purchased Date: March 2004
Purchased from Barrier Porsche in Bellevue, WA
Favorite Option: since X51 is standard and not really an option, I'll pick PSE. However, I'll probably like RoW030 even better
Miles: 4000
No 1375 of 1963
Purschased Date: 5/04
Purchased from Champion Porsche
Favorite Option: X74 *
Miles: 4,000
* "How the 40th Anniversary 911 can ride worst than a GT3 is something of a mystery ..." Sports Car International Sept '04. Its true and the X74 (and I assume ROW30) turns the car into an amazingly competent GT.
No 1216 of 1963
Purchased Date: 4/04
Purchased from Town Motors in Englewood, NJ
Favorite Option: Can't pick one I love the whole package
Miles: 1350 (travel all week)
No. 1151 of 1963
Manufactured: 02/04
Purchase Date: Sept. 6, 2004
Purchased: from Hoehn in Carlsbad, CA
Options: Bought a stripper: no options except floor mats
Favorite Option: The option of having a Porsche 911 in the garage to drive!
Miles: <200 (still very new)
Modification(s): None, must resist....must resist......must resist.....
Favorite Roads: 33 north of Ojai, 58 between 5 and 101, Nacimiento road between 101 and PCH, PCH between Cambria and Monterey.
Hey, I love strippers!
Over 2000 mi on mine and the only 'problem' is laxity in the front hood latch. I can push it down a bit when it is latched but no rattle. Also present on my buddies boxster. Is this a systemic issue in the 996/986 cars?
Boy this car is fast
Got mine in September 2004 from Pfaff Porsche in Toronto. Number 1443 of 1963. Options include:
Bose, PSE, CD Changer, Sport Seats, Grey Marker Lights, H&R Suspension and GT3 Sway Bars.
Kilometers? About 4000 KM
Simply the best 996 that can be had...
Eric,
Thanks for the pics...
Nice choice on wheels... what are they? Do you use a different set of wheels/tires for the track?... What's your car's edition #?
Hopefully a bunch of us 40th Anniversary owners in SoCal can meet with you folks in NoCal... We should organize a fun run through the Central Coast one day.
Cheers.
The wheels are BBS RE's in stock sizes and offsets. I had heat cycled MPSC's mounted on them and used the set for track and autocross use. I replaced the stock shocks and springs with a set of PSS9's with a custom alignment. The car was so fast on the track that I couldn't stay in my seat and actually felt unsafe because of it. This lead me down a slippery slope and I now own a 78 911SC that has been prepared for track use. I still drive the car to work and I can't believe that I'm lucky enough to own such a beautiful automobile.
Let's see more 40th Anniversary pictures!!
With a few (welcome) exceptions most of these cars have around 1000 miles (some a lot less) within a 12 month period! What's going on? you do not frive your cars? A 911 needs to be driven, it should never be a garage queen.
I'm at 14,500 miles and rapidly approaching the 15,000 mile service. Problems to date include a broken passenger window switch, noisy CD player, and oil streaks on the inside of the windows. They will all get addressed during the service.
Hi all,
Bought #1440 out of downtown Fine Car in late september of this year.
I already have 8,000 after 2 months. I'm convincing myself to keep the car inside this winter as I have a pickup to get around. Most Porsche's buddies here are telling me to slap on winter tires and drive the hell out of it....not sure if that's smart. More scrared of salt, sand and pebbles that are all over the roads than anything else.
Favorite option : The Nav system.
Mods to come : x-74 (gee car looks like an SUV now), PSE or Fabspeed, Short shifter ??
Least favorite feature: the low height = lots of stone chips on hood. Don't know what's wrong with the roads here but I get a rock to hit the car once every two week....very depressing, especially that I don't tailgate.
Cheers from great white north.
Just got mine today and am absolutely in love with it. So much better then my old 99 cab I traded in. Like night and day.

Need to get PSE next and clear side markers. Any tips on where to best get them?
You guys have the best street 996 out there. I almost traded mine in for one but thought I would wait for a 997. After seeing 997 in person, I think the 40th looks better in and out hands down...and the price is right on them too!
Enjoy them!!!!1
I am jealous.
Hey Riozilla CONGRATULATIONS!!!
You've made a great purchase! You'll be amazed how each day you will appreciate the car more and more. I got my clear markers from Suncoast Porsche
http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?
It is the best mod for $30 bucks. I'm also thinking doing PSE, but I might do The Porsche Driving Experience first. Let's do some canyon carving one of these days.
Robert: Thank you for the compliments... I couldn't agree with you more. The day I purchased my 40th I was comparing it side by side with a base 997 (launch car)... The decision was very easy.
Cheers.
For any of you guys considering the PSE, don't hesitate. I got it on the car as soon as I took delivery of it and didn't bother with the switch nonsense. The exhaust is incredible! I agree completely with Fast40th, the 997 was nothing compared to the 40 Jahre and the 997s wasn't any faster feeling at all. Considering the incentives offered on the 40 Jahre, I couldn't resist. Guys, get the PSE, you will not regret it...
I just ordered clear side markers from Eric @ BumperPlugs along with a plug for my driver side door keyhole as my first mods.
Also investigating the best method for ipod direct-line-in on the system in this car.. spent time at paris audio on pico today but they were not much help. Basically said to wait til after CES in January to see what is announced and that nothing delivered clarity of sound that was out just yet for our systems.
Trying to find PSE for a good price right now (used or new) -- is there a special one for our cars with X51 or does the regular 996 PSE work fine? Looking forward to getting some "bulls-eye" type tips which I think look great.
Loving the car, today was my first day of really driving it - mostly city driving with lots of traffic - but the few minutes I had to open it up on PCH and the curves of topanga canyon brought a huge smile to my face.
Fast40th, I'm good to go canyon carving pretty much any time -- maybe next weekend? PM me to set something up.
Rio
I got the PSE on mine from Brandywine for around $1,500. That was 7-8 months ago, and I've never looked back. It is a must-have. Next, go with the X74 suspension package from Gert at Carnewal. As I recall, that was around $2k with the engine protection plate, and my dealer charged me $1k for the install and four wheel alignment. Mine also has the Rennline pedals, clear corners, and 35% tint all around. This is my 4th 911, and in my opinion, the best one yet. I'm head over heels in love with the car. I bought it last Christmas and it now has 9k on it. But my two major mods really seemed to transform the car. Good luck with yours and welcome to the club! As far as price, I paid $90k before the discounting began, and have no regrets since this one is a keeper.
...I'm sure you'll be happy with it for a long time. Kind of a shame they drilled the frtont bumper though. But I do like those seatbacks; mine has the optional "comfort" power seats and do not have the metal on the seatbacks. Again , congrats!
Hello
Just got back from the Porsche parade in Traverse City, Mi. Great turnout (over 800 cars) but a sad turnout for the 40th anniv. cars. (1) Car #1374 just turned 130,000 miles!
I'm number 439.. purchased February 2015... I am headed to factory in Stuttgart tomorrow and the museum.. looking forward to seeing what I can find out about number my 439!
John - thanks for checking in and for the info about your 40th. You may have seen it already but, if you didn't, there's another thread here on RL dedicated to our cars:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...nd-faq-57.html
Also, you'll see in my signature below the link to the 40th Registry FB page. Check it out when you have time - lots of great stuff there, too.
When you have a minute I'd appreciate it if you'd send me an email so that I can get a few more details about your 40th. I'll add you to the car list, too. Thanks.

Hey, Elton in SoCal, I can see on your profile that you are/were an owner of 40 Yahre 911 with a number #878. I am currently looking for this exact example as I am collecting all anniversary edition Porsche with a number #878. I would incredibly interested in purchasing this exact car, so if you are still an owner of this car could I reach out to you and talk about an offer, and if you are not an owner anymore could you point me in the right direction to finally be able to find this car. I hope to hear from you soon!
