158k miles but runs phenomenally and previous owner was a BMW tech who basically did a once over on the whole car and replaced a laundry list of things.

My vote is they would not because they adjust numbers on the sale to make you feel better about the trade.

Should things change economically and I need to get back into the field, well the X5 wont cut it.

I have a 4 month old baby, a business to run, a house to finally finish renovating, and I own a boat (need I say more?) While the car is amazing, and I know I will regret selling it, I am making a choice to keep the boat over the car.

I can continue making new memories with my son, and plan to upgrade the boat to something more suitable to having a little one running around at some point.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well it upsets me to make this post, however I think its time to move on from my 996. I have owned it for about 18 months, and I have done under 4k miles. I have a 4 month old baby, a business to run, a house to finally finish renovating, and I own a boat (need I say more?) While the car is amazing, and I know I will regret selling it, I am making a choice to keep the boat over the car. Im not in a position to have 2 toys when I barely have time to use one. My rationale is thisI cant really enjoy the car with friends and family, it was a kind of selfish purchase. Whereas the boat, I have made many memories with my brother in law and my cousin fishing, getting out at 4:30am in 30 weather looking for stripers. I have made memories of watching sunsets on the ocean horizon with my wife. I can continue making new memories with my son, and plan to upgrade the boat to something more suitable to having a little one running around at some point.
This being saidhow should I go about selling? Who here has had success selling cars like these? I am not sure I want to go auction route. Maybe someone has some insight? I have had 1 particular NY dealer ask me about it consignment, you know who they are. Should I list it myself on CarGurus, Autotrader, etc. and post it nationally? Should I stick to Facebook/Rennlist/CL?
also, I realize that pricing in the used car market has come down from the high point that I bought at. However, I also sold other vehicles at that high so I will still come out OK. But what do you believe I should be asking for the car?
These pics are about a year old or thereabouts, but within 1k miles or less. These were nice and fresh after a detail.
2003 C2. 35k miles. Black/black. 6 speed. Aerokit Carrera rear wing. TUBI exhaust. All services up to date. Original IMS.
It costs nothing to put it on Facebook marketplace but you have to sift through alot of BS and with anything be prepared for constant "iS tHe ImS bEaRiNg dOnE" from people that have 0 ideas about these cars other than that. You could try BaT but I think there is a decent wait to get on there. Probably just post it as many places as you can, can't hurt if its free.
Do you have a local garage you use for service ? If yes let them know you are selling . Are you a PCA member ? Go to a local event and get the word out . These two avenues " should " put you in touch with people that really want a car vs tire kickers .
You can go the Craigslist route or maybe a online service like Carvana or Car Max . That will leave $$$ on the table as they want to turn a profit . Next would be Ebay or BAT . You have a nice looking car , good luck with the sale .
Thats a good candidate for being a trailer with those low miles, and if it lived its former life in Arizona, its probably pristine underneath. Those two are big selling features
IMHO you'll get better money listing it on the Rennlist, PCA and Pcarmart (sp?) websites. I'd stay away from Facebook, Craigslist, etc. People looking on the Porsche websites will pay more for the aerokit. Some rando on Craigslist won't. Plus it'll go to someone who'll take good car of it and it sounds like you don't have to sell it quickly.

Does $32k seem fair for a dealer trade in? I may want to get back into a pickup for work.
I could hold out for a few more grand, but the tax savings on the trade would be pretty significant with only a $9k delta between my car and the truck. I would try to make up most of this with the sale of my e53 but I have time for that too.
However, I just hate knowing that the truck will keep going down down down in value while I know the 911 will keep going up up up.
If you can get $32,000 for it on trade, then I'd do the deal provided the dealership is not going to play sleight of hand with hidden charges and stupid add-ons. I assume the truck is worth it and so I'd give it a green light IMHO. You'd be far pressed to get that in a private sale and then you'd have to pay the full tax burden on the truck purchase. Your state is similar to GA.... license dealers have the advantage over private sales in that if you trade in a vehicle, you only have to pay taxes on the difference.
Go for it! I warn you though... it won't be long and you'll miss the Porsche.
2005 with the 3.0. Its 2 lifted on Black Rhino wheels and Falken Wildpeaks. 158k miles but runs phenomenally and previous owner was a BMW tech who basically did a once over on the whole car and replaced a laundry list of things. Its actually a great car, was cheap enough for a daily for me, and I thoroughly enjoy it. But I would sell it along with my Porsche to get into this truck Im looking at.
It is a great car. I really do love it. Its got 158k miles and its great. However, being an suv it has its limitations for me and my line of work (remodeling and carpentry). Im not working in the field for the most part anymore. Just running around to jobs and running the business end of things. So the X5 is fine for most days. HOWEVER. Should things change economically and I need to get back into the field, well the X5 wont cut it. Neither will the 911 lol. So while the mid 2000s European duo of my dreams checks all of the boxes in my heart, its just not the right setup for me. I miss my truck.
EDIT: BTW, dealer came up for $33k on trade for my car. Pretty solid trade in figure if you ask me.
Well I backed out on the trade - so its up for sale on Rennlist. I couldnt commit to a GMC, I found a Ram 2500 that is precisely my preferred spec, but its across the country. Its basically the same truck I had before my 911, but less miles, more options and Black/black. Since its 2,000 miles away, trading in the 911 is out. So I listed it here as a first start. Lets see what happens. Thanks for all the help.
That's my assumption as well, just curious if they would sell it for close to that. Our local dealerships are (or at least were) giving nearly the same trade in price for cars outright sold to them. Wild times.
I said he would, but I havent talked to him in a few days. He also said he would still buy it for $33k. Everyone else so far has been just pulling up Manheim Auction report and giving me the same $26-29k trade offers, for those wondering. I think this dealer has a thing for these cars maybe.
We started at $32k for trade. $39,900 for truck. Final offer was $33k for trade, $38.5k for truck.
yes, the tax obligation was like under $200. Now if I sell my car and buy this Ram Im looking for which i got down to $35.5k Im looking at just about $2500 you are on the money. The Ram was $38,750. They offered $26k for my car, they came down to $37k and up to $27k for the Porsche. So thats essentially $2750 they came up with for me. I said, lets do $35k and I keep my car, they countered at $35.5k and I accepted. Now just need to finalize and get the truck, then sell my car hopefully soon!
