I think the switch doesn't change between .1 and .2 so if you want to dry a known good switch we could do that too

Suggestion · Original poster

Read online about using the tilt function to slide the 'tray' out so I could use some 3M adhesive to re-secure the fabric and slide back in.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been searching the past few days on anything sunroof related in the forums and haven't found exactly what I am looking for but have a lot of things to try first. Want to see if anyone has had anything similar happen. I rarely ever use my sunroof, only drive in nice weather (no rain if possible). Had the oil change done the other day and the shop parked it outside and that afternoon we had heavy rain. That was last Wednesday. Parked in the garage until Saturday and went to take it for a spin and saw my sunroof headliner drooping down. Started to open the sunroof and it bunched up a bit. I was able to successfully remove the fabric with no stretching or pulling. Read online about using the tilt function to slide the 'tray' out so I could use some 3M adhesive to re-secure the fabric and slide back in. Well, when I click the tilt button, nothing happens. Everything I've read seems to be the opposite. Tilt works and sliding doesn't. I attached a youtube video of the reset sequence where it goes through the motions (including tilt). Also it looks like there is some black material that comes up when you tilt it? I've literally used my sunroof twice and never tilt since I've bought the car so no idea what it is supposed to look like. My one touch doesn't always work and have to hold it. Sometimes it moves back and forth for a moment before closing but never had an issue with it getting stuck. First thing I plan to do is pop the switch out, clean it and see if that helps. Next would be to clean out the motherboard. Any other suggestions? You Tube

POST 2Original post

Probably because you let the car get rained on. Typical 996 failure mode is mild humidity

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Playing around with it for a few minutes at lunch. If I am in the process of the reset cycle and take my hand off the switch while it tilts, I can stop it. Still closes like normal but tilt function still doesn't work. Taking the switch off by the weekend and hit the connections with some contact electrical cleaner and see if that does it.

POST 8Original post

How much is a replacement switch? I think the switch doesn't change between .1 and .2 so if you want to dry a known good switch we could do that too
