WIth Tipt, you drop the engine and gearbox off the car and change the IMS on the ground.

I just dropped trans from my 1999 911, to fix trans bell housing, replace IMS and RMS.

I have a 4 post lift, just asking if folks have had any luck dropping their transmission through the runners without clearance issues? Thanks!

Very easy, the transmission bell housing is only 14" wide. I drop the engine and transmission together off the back of my four post. You Tube

You did not say what gearbox you have. IF 6 speed, you drop the gearbox only. WIth Tipt, you drop the engine and gearbox off the car and change the IMS on the ground. Both can be done on a 4 post iift.

I did use Porsche support bar to support motor. You can use a jack as long as you don’t want to lower car… Manual transmission…
