Reported cause
Not that it means much, but ours is an 04/00 C4 and it turned out to have a dual.
Leading evidence: 'have a dual' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'have a dual' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check underside' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

More seriously, check the underside for the correct Porsche decals.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys, I'm really close to joining the club but still looking for the right car...
I'm looking to purchase a MkI that's within flying distance. How can I tell if the kit is OEM or not? The taco wing is adjustable but the last MKI I saw had the rubber trim on the lip of the wing. I can't quite tell if this other car does or not.
Also, for the front air dam, will there be areas for clipping on the OEM rubber/plastic mini splitter that always falls off? I'm just looking for signs of authenticity...
Thanks so much!!
From the photos it looks like the wing is missing the "Gurney flap" that I saw on the first car. I guess if it is glued on it is possible for it to fall off over time. Was the OEM wing fiberglass or ABS? Something else?
Thanks!
Grant
Compare it to mine. If it looks nothing like mine, yours is probably OEM.
More seriously, check the underside for the correct Porsche decals. While you CAN buy decals aftermarket, few people bother.
If you want to see "detail-oriented" jacked up to levels you never even wanted to imagine, go check out the 356 entries at a concours. Those dudes would import German air for inflating tires if it was available.
What is this "gurney flap"? The little flap on the top of the lower wing?
As far as the front, there are holes for the front lip to mate up with. It either has the aero front it or it doesn't. The two look significantly different when you look at them side by side.
Thanks guys.
Yes this forum seems to refer to that piece on the lower lip as a "gourney flap".
This car has an aero kit, I just wanted advice on how to determine if it is an OEM kit or a fiberglass reproduction. I hope that clears things up a bit.
All OEM should be polyurethane material(except rear spoiler) and have a "996.xxx.xx..." part number engraved/imprinted on it.
Don't get too caught up on the Gurney flap. Not all came with it. It is held on by 3 holes so if it fell off, you would definitely notice the holes.
It has the "Turnwald" stamp on the underside with Porsche part number. I'm pretty sure this is OEM. In related news, I put a deposit on the car =)
I'll be posting photos and an intro when I pick it up later this month. Thanks to the community's fast response in answer my questions so I could move forward with confidence!

Turnwald is the company in France that manufactured the Taco wings for Porsche. I'm beginning to think either the very earliest or the very latest batch(es) from the company might've had slight variances than the majority.
islaTurbine's wing might be in the same boat too.
If reference to alpine's comment, GrantH can you tell me what the build date is of your car? I've been on the hunt for clues concerning early aerokits.
I have a late '98 build 1999 model. It's a factory coded Aero car but the rear wing and front fascia don't have the "made in France" wording. They have everything from every other aspect that distinguishes factory kits from reproductions. It appears that possibly some of the early Aero cars didn't have all of the wording that the later ones did. It's just a theory and could be completely wrong. I was hoping yours could help corroborate it.
Your theory could still hold some water as Grant's car didnt' come with it from the factory but added on later by the dealer. Forgot if yours had any Turnwald markings on yours?
