Initially, I'm just going use the internal amplification from the new unit for everything except the Sub.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've decided to remove the CDR-23 MOST/Bose from my '04 Coupe and install a double din HU with GPS, etc. Initially, I'm just going use the internal amplification from the new unit for everything except the Sub. and leave the stock speakers. Primary goal is to have a decent GPS, mp3 music, and hands free phone. Don't need much in the way of apps (except occasionally cancelling the error codes generated by the 200 cell cats, which I do with the Torque app on my android phone). I don't need dedicated mobile data or wifi on the HU. Both types seem to have a functional Bluetooth. So, the call of the question is: Is there any real advantage to having an Android OS vs. the Win CE on the HU? Your thoughts are appreciated & thanks in advance, Mark

POST 2Original post

WIN CE's user interface will look dated and not updateable but very fluid with minimal or no lag. Android could have lag and lock up more but you will get more flexibility in terms of updates and wide variety of apps. I've seen both units in action before.

POST 3Original post

I want Android about 3 weeks ago. Very pleased with the decision.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Alp3, thanks...things to consider! Alan, mind sharing which unit you went with?

POST 5Original post

I went with the Kenwood ddx 372bt and the Del Rey customs install kit. The 372 allowed custom button illumination color so I could match everything else in the cabin and I made a home screen showing the Porsche crest. Add on - well, color me shocked. Just looked at the specs on my radio and it says fat32 file system. Guess it is windows . Sorry for the misinformation.

POST 6Original post

I would get a deck with Apple car play Even the next generation 911 will be based on Apple car play "The 2017 Porsche 911 will have tons of fancy features, but Google's Android Auto won't be one of them. According to Motor Trend, Porsche has opted for Apple's rival CarPlay system over Android Auto due to privacy concerns. "There's no technological reason the 991/2 doesn't have Android Auto playing through its massively upgraded PCM system. But there is an ethical one," the report notes. Motor Trend goes on to say that Google would have required that Porsche hand over a good deal of data, such as "vehicle speed, throttle position, coolant and oil temp, engine revs — basically … a complete OBD2 [on-board diagnostic] dump" when a driver initiated Android Auto. - "Porsche feels info like that is the secret sauce that makes its cars special," Motor Trend said. "Moreover, giving such data to a multi-billion dollar corporation that's actively building a car, well, that ain't good, either."- Apple, meanwhile, only apparently wants to know if the car is moving while CarPlay is in use.- Googl.... http://pressly.it/107B2

POST 7Original post

I've got one of the Pioneer NEX Airplays in my truck and love it. If you really want to go double din, that or one of their AppRadio's are hard to beat.

POST 8Original post

For me personally it really comes down to the GPS. If it isn't Garmin software, then I don't want it. I'm currently stuck with a Pioneer system that hasn't had maps released since 2005.
