These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So grounding PIN 17 on the black AMP connector and cutting out the DSP line did the trick.
Successfully installed my new PCCM+ for USA, in my 996 2000 C4 Millennium and replaced the old PCM.....but not totally successful. No Sound. Every other feature is working. I have read all the threads about the no sound problem....and not helping me yet. My old PCM did not have a ISO B brown cable for speakers. Speakers are enabled I assume via the amp. I did enable the CAN variable under Volume to AMP on, powered the car off and on, but still no sound. Help! Don't know what to test or try next.
Did you check this thread ->
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-no-sound.html
I think the PCCM+ does not output line level on the yellow plug. I do not know how to confirm or deny this.
It appears that one solution is to use a speaker level to line level converter from the PCCM+ ISO brown speaker plug to the car's yellow ISO line level input plug. Then the PCCM+ would be set at AMP. This is discussed in that thread with a source for the adapter cable.
In addition it would probably be needed to patch the black/red wire from the car's yellow plug to the white lead on the ISO Black plug to enable the amplifier turn-on.
This is a problem that Porsche knows the answer to. The big question(s) for me is... Does the analog audio come in the form of LIVE LEVEL from the YELLOW C1 connector OR does analog audio come from the B connector and have to be attenuated to accommodate the input voltage level of the amplifier. If the B connector is truly the correct OUTPUT for the amplifier, then the next question is connectivity and how does one bring the audio level down within the menus to avoid distortion?
It would seem to me that the most plausible way for the PCCM+ to be compatible with legacy analogy systems is to output the LINE LEVEL audio through the YELLOW C1 ISO connector like with most legacy Becker analog head units. In the legacy Becker systems, the B connector was SPEAKER LEVEL output for those systems without a frunk amplifier. The connections from the B output would be fed directly to the speakers.
Another question I would have is there a grounding issue that needs to be addressed as I mentioned in the previous post to the OP. That may be one of the problems. If the signal output to the amplifier doesn't receive a proper ground, then of course, there will be NO signal to the amplifier. It would just produce silence and/or white noise when you turn it up.
Read the attached TSB from Porsche on the PCCM+
Notice 6.5.2 - There is a grounding issue that MUST be addressed for the PCM1. This may also apply to other analog systems.

Yahoo..... the sound is on. So grounding PIN 17 on the black AMP connector and cutting out the DSP line did the trick. Thank you for the advice and install
TSB instructions. I was only worried about what wire, as they described it black red yellow. Unless I'm color blind, the yellow was green and the red was
like a brownish red. But it was pin 17. All good. PCCM+ is marvelous and works with Apple Car Play apps terrific. My 996 feels like a new car.
AMP in the frunk black plug
Pin 17 taken out and replaced with a grounding wire
Works great!
That's great news! I'm so glad you didn't give up on the unit. Personally, I think Porsche hit a homer with the PCCM+. Hopefully these experiences will help all the analog owners that want to upgrade their old Harman-Becker PCM and CDR radio systems. Enjoy!
So glad this worked for you! I think I need to do the exact same thing you did to get sound from my PCCM+ unit.
I've never fitted a ground line before--can you please help walk me through what you did?
1) where did you buy the grounding line? The manual lists PN 996.642.585.00, but the Porsche dealerships are quoting me weeks for it to ship. Is there a generic grounding line from a corner autoparts that would work instead?
2) what does the new grounding line and insulated DSP line look like when complete? Could you please take a picture of what your 18-pin Amp connector looks like now?
1. It's fairly simple,. Basically, once you have the right grounding line (mine was brown), you just slide it into the same hole as where you removed the existing wire. The other side of the grounding line has a loop on it, which you can attach to the bolt right next to the amp rig. There should be another grounding line already attached to it to begin with, so just unscrew the nut, slide the loop on, and tighten it back.
2. Mine came with it, but I got the kit from Suncoast. Everything shipped within a week, so I'd imagine they can get you the part pretty quickly and cheaply, if you give them a call.
Fantastic job and glad you got it working! It seems that people that are having the 'no sound' issue are the ones where the cars have the analog speaker connection and not the Bose fiber optic set ups. Is that correct?
It seems that the ones that have fewer problems are the MOST based systems. But remember, Bose can be either analog or digital. There was a lot of electronic innovation during the M9X era (1997 - 2008). Think about it... in just a little over a decade, we went from analog cassette tapes to BlueTooth streaming media with Apple Carplay.
Looks awesome !! I am going to get one as a matter of fact. One question as I have a porsche cdc4 chnager connected to my MOST PCM2 unit, will i still be able to use my cd changer by any chance ?
Indeed , i have noticed this but thanks for posting anyways. I wonder however if there is a 'smart' way to be able to connect the existing CD changer to this unit..... Also does anyone know what is the max SD capacity that can be read in this unit? My S Audi MMI system can only read up to 32GB from a SD card which is very annoying considering its a 128GB SD card fully loaded...
Which PCM radio did you have? If I'm not mistaken, the Blue connector is for the Navigation antenna, the Black is the standard FM/AM antenna, and the Yellow plug is connected to the microphone in the center gauge cluster. Very few people used the cell phone capability built in the older PCM units. The PCCM+ should be able to use the preexisting navigation antenna as well as the FM/AM antenna, but I'm not totally sure if the PCCM's tan plug is used for the phone microphone. Could be.
Thank you for responding. I have PCM2. 2004, 911, bose with CD changer. I think ive worked out the three antenna, gps wires. but im still not getting sound. any thoughts?
First question - did the old PCM2 work before removing it?
Second, have you selected CAN bus on the PCCM+ and connected the fiber optic line to the PCCM+?
Yes, the old PCM2 worked. Didn't have any problems with it. I connected the singular fiber optic connector to the CD changer but no other cable is available for the head unit. I tried CAN with powering off/On. Then AMP with powering off/on. not sure if battery disconnect is needed to completely power off/on. Also, i noticed the PCCM+ head unit stays on when the car is off and key is out of ignition. even after opening the door and closing it.
..meaning the PCCM+ has to be manually switched on / off every time ? I find that a bit strange .. is that so with other PCCM+ owners ?
I am planning to get the PCCM+ unit to replace my PCM2 once the lockdown and this madness has receded , my only concern is if there is a way to retain the use of my existing CD changer I know Porsche says you cant use it but wonder if this is possible ..
I've taken the car into my local Porsche dealership to take a look. I'll let you know what they say about getting the sound working and having the PCCM+ turn off on its own or by the vehicle. Also, they did say that the CD changer wouldn't work with the PCCM+ unit.
The PCCM is powered directly off the battery, not the ignition switch which I find very annoying. However, there is an off timer you can set once to exit the car which will power down the unit. Upon restarting, the unit will power up without having to push the on switch.
I just installed my second PCCM+ system. I have a problem that prevents me from going to settings. I get a Traffic Safety message, "....some functions are only available when the vehicle is stationsary". !! But I am stationary. My GPS is working and it shows accurately where the vehicle is and it's not moving. I also get the message "The vehicle is in motion!" and I am not in motion. Not sure where to start to solve this. I believe all my connections are solid in the install process. Anyone have any ideas? thank you. Paul
I heard of this problem before, but I cant remember the solution. Have you tried a factory reset? Push the volume control for 10s, and a hidden menu should boot up.
Thank you mffarrell, but that's the problem. I know about the volume reset 10 sec...and switch it to "AMP" inorder to get the sound,
but I cannot get to VOLUME which is under SETTINGS because it thinks my vehicle is moving, so it won't let me get into Settings.
The Volume settings parameter is not under SOUND which has controls for fade, balance, loundess, etc. Some sensor or whatever
thinks my vehicle is moving and puts it into traffic safety mode. WIsh I could disable traffic safety mode.
Did you try to unplug the GPS?
Also there is a vehicle speed signal that's in the black ISO plug. It would be pin#1 and shows a grey/pink wire in the schematic I have.
If you have the M680 DSP the speed signal goes to the amplifier, it's on pin#16 of the amp's Plug 1 (not the speaker plug, the other one) and also a grey/pink wire.
I don't know if I have the M680 DSP. I did ground pin #17 of the amp's black ISO Plug 1 which is required for the installation. So you're suggesting to disconnect
the speed signal pin 1 or pin 16 is I have an M680 DSP? I did not have to do that on the other PCCM+ I installed successfully. thanks
thanks for the suggestion theprf, I tried disconnecting pin 16 of the amp's black ISO plug....did not disable the vehicle is in motion.
Then I tried pin #1....also did not disable the vehicle in motion.
How can we find out what is telling the PCCM that the vehicle is in motion, when it is not?
I purchased from Suncoast Porsche parts and they are trying to get to Porsche for me.
All else functions look good. This is a frustrating one for sure.

But of course I cannot get to volume control which is under Settings, because the system thinks the vehicle is moving. HELP!
I would try to find out which pin is from the speed sensor and disconnect it. The PCCM thinks the car is moving. That pin is probably on the yellow connector on the PCCM.I dont have a wireless diagram to say for sure. Have tried to disconnect the yellow connector?
If I disconnect the yellow connector on back of the PCCM I will not be getting out any sound to the amp. But I'll try it to see if the vehicle is moving message goes away. thanks...report back later.
Here's an update on my problem where the unit is stuck "in motion" and thus will not let the user change settings
while in motion. My distributor, Suncoast Porsche Parts, got this message from Porsche about my problem:
"
The units are very sensitive to movement (onboard accelerometer) and must remain stationary to make this menu adjustment. Support from a local dealer (using PRMS if necessary) is recommended if the customer has technical issues."
So the PCCM does not use the speed. sensor or the GPS to detect motion. It has it's own accelerometer, which in my case seems to be stuck in motion. So they are forcing me to take the installed unit to my local Porsche dealership to do the warranty process, I have no choice. It could be a special command to reset the accelerometer but they are not revealing this info to unauthorized people. That sucks. I hope they are not going to charge me for this diagnostic of my installation.

Paul - what was the outcome of the "traffic safety" error message and your device? I have the same problem and at this point I'm planing to return the entire head unit given Porsche is not very helpful - they just say "talk to the dealer" and the dealer has no idea what the problem is (given they don't really work on these). Hard to believe Porsche/dealers think a viable response is ... we can charge you to look at the new device you just purchased to see if we can figure out what's wrong with it.
It seems some of these have a faulty accelerometer and the only viable solution is to replace the entire unit/package. Either way, hard to believe the unit does not have a hard reset option - or ability for the owner to bypass the setting/alert.
Same exact problem. Purchased from Suncoast. Busted accelerometer / cant get into settings menu and thus can't make the unit work.
Wasted $100 on a failed install, now going out of the country to a month and have to send the unit back, wait a month to re-order and then begin this mess all over again
I hope Suncoast doesn't fight me on it. I'm going to force them to take it back. Already talked to my Porsche dealer. They have no idea. They told me to take it to a local independent car audio place.
Absolutely worthless. Porsche "built" a defective product and are shuffling the blame to their consumers and asking them to come out of pocket for Porsche's mistakes. Disgraceful.
