Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Sounds like a lot, but I only drive it in the summer, so it gets changed 4x/year.
Leading evidence: 'Replace 4x/year' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend "street only"' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I do beat the **** out of my 996, so the oil gets changed ~1000 miles, which I do myself.

I use liqui moly 5w40 in 5 of my cars with an oil additive changed out 2x a year regardless of use

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5W40 unless you are starting car in very low temps. I'm a LiquiMoly fan and use it in my 981 Boxster. To be honest, I used Mobil 1 European 5W40 in the 996 as it was available at Wal-Mart for about $25 for 5 quart jug. But I will change at 6 months, 3k miles.
Green. Moly Gen. I do beat the **** out of my 996, so the oil gets changed ~1000 miles, which I do myself. Sounds like a lot, but I only drive it in the summer, so it gets changed 4x/year. The Moly Gen has the added benefit of glowing under UV light, so you can find leaks. Both the stock Porsche antifreeze and the Moly Gen glow under UV light. UV flashlights are inexpensive.
If you use Driven DT-40 you don't have to add anything. It's been specially formulated for our engines by LN Engineering and Joe Gibbs racing oil.
Loose the Liqui-Moly...
The Moly Gen doesn't recommend use with any additive. I've just bought 12 qts of DT-40 and looking forward to trying it, but as I change the oil and filter ~1,000 miles, almost anything will work fine.
The only time I was glad I had 0/40 was when I went to start my car in -16F temps one day. But then again, I kinda felt bad for the car and wouldnt do that again on the 996. Now the coldest cold star I see is 53.
I get the Liquimoly off Amazon, they actually have the "older" 2044 formula.. and I typically get it within 3 days.
I keep a few jugs on teh shelf in my garage so I am not chasing around at the last minute.
As mentioned below, just because it has "Moly" in the name, doesn't mean it has Molybdenum in the product.
DT 40 or DT50 recommended by these guys :

There are several oil brands that are good . Each person should make their own decisions based on shop recommendations , availability , price , oil analysis and any other criteria deemed essential . Why do I use Liqui Moly ? In a face to face conversation with Jake Raby it's what he recommended for my two engines that FSI built .
Follow up oil analysis has proven my engines do well with LM . Could it do as well with other brands ? Probably . Could other oils perform worse ? Probably . For now I will stick with LM . Why do I say for now ? Because oil formulas can change . The availability of raw materials can change . Environmental rules and regulations can change .
I am a believer in the statement " trust but verify " . I trust my engine builder as he has built hundreds of engines and performed thousands of oil samples . But I verify by having outside vendors perform oil analysis . What works for me may or may not work for you . LM 2040/2041 currently work for me .
Yes he did.
But it varies based on how many miles are on the engine.
Also he has warned people before to not follow his FSI build recommendations for stock M9x.
Very interesting. So their recommendation is DT-40 for stock, Liqui-Moly post FSI rebuild? Was the Liqui-Moly post FSI also recommended for "street only" use?
Jake doesn’t normally make recommendations for non-FSI engines.
LN does recommend(and sells) DT40 for M9x.
Yes, Liquimoly is for street only.
Jake doesn’t sell oil, so you know there’s not a financial reason to recommend one over the other.
He has explained some reasons why the switch, and it made sense to me.
