Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Install on mine, and they fit ok' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'c4s' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install on mine, and they fit ok' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
The car is most likely a C4S which is AWD like the Turbos of the same era.

Suggestion
Looking at your pics your set looks just like mine right down to the variable-rate springs.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First post here and first time owning a 996 but had a 76 911 (should have never sold!!!!!) and a 74 914. So not a total newbie to porsches. Anyway mone is a 2000 carrera and a friends has a set of rebuilt gt3 cup coilovers with H&R springs from an unknown year but did fit and come off his dads 04 996 S before he put back to stock. Will these fit on mine? And I'm sure I will need shorter drop links if so as I want to lower the car. Any other things I need for this swap?
…unless you want to try new uprights, perches, brakes, wheel carriers, control arms. And that would be for a .2 C2. Just buy some new Feal coils, upgrade your sways and links, call it a day for less than $4k.
Ok well super good to know! 4k is not in the budget right now as I was going to get these for a song and a dance. But he does have some lowering springs that I know will fit for very cheap too. Do I just need to swap springs and drop links, or?
I have these installed on mine, and they fit ok.
I don't know if they're exactly the same, but I was told they were cup shock bodies, and look pretty similar. They fit ok on a 1999 C2, although we put a lot of preload into the spring so it wasn't too low. I was told this was a coilover kit from Cargraphic that was made for a German tuner competition. This set was previously on an '04 GT3.
Sorry for all the posts, but I just wanted to note that they drive, ride and handle great. I haven't had them on the track yet, but hopefully pretty soon. I've had them on the car for about a month and put a few 100kms on them with no issues. The only thing that I would note is that after putting these in and before doing an alignment it felt like the caster was off. After getting a corner balance and alignment it still feels like that, although maybe a little less so, a little vague around center and not much self-centering when slightly off center. The shop that did the alignment set it to about 8deg and noted the same feeling with a road test. I'm not sure what the cause of that is yet but it's not too concerning to me.
Anyway, OP, if you have any questions please let me know. I got mine for a really good deal, too, and it was definitely worth the try.
Also if anyone else can put more context to the emphatic 'no' at the beginning of this thread it would be much appreciated. Is that just the general 'forum wisdom', or has someone tried it and there's actually a problem with this set up.
Edit: or was the 'no' a sales tactic?
Now I'm confused
my friends dads car is an 04 c2s convertible no modifications at all. And they swear up and down this was on his car. I can't find any reference other than 1 racing site saying they are for a cup car with numbers on the parts But... so what to do?
Yes, I think you're right. Looking at your pics your set looks just like mine right down to the variable-rate springs. So they're likely Cup car shock bodies, maybe even the same Cargraphic kit as mine.
I say make yours look like mine and throw them in and enjoy. You're right, though, you also need some adjustable drop links for the sway bars, not in my pic.
There is no C2S in 2004. The car is most likely a C4S which is AWD like the Turbos of the same era. Unless you have a Carrera 4, they won’t fit correctly. The rears may, but the fronts will not.
Required parts missing in the picture in your first post are
-the attachments to which the drop links connect on each of all 4 struts.
-upper spring perches on the front struts (i.e. those without the eyelets)
-bracket to connect wheel speed sensor and brake wear sensor wiring hooks onto on both front struts. See pictures here

Ok perfect. Thanks for this list. He does not have the missing parts you mention so I am going to pass. But I did find an under 5k set of bilstein b6 performance shocks with some h&r springs that I am going to go with. They are complete and ready to bolt in.
