Also, changed the IMS bearing to an LN product, clutch and rms 5,000 miles ago so I can exclude that.

Just wanted a gut check (or ear check) before I start tearing into it and diagnosing things that youre all hearing something unusual here as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone, I recently changed my oil (M1 0w-40) on my 1999 996 with 80,000 miles in it and added a bottle of ceretec, just to try out. I have some clatter at start up which I feel is pretty normal, but wanted to see if the ceretec would help. It seems to have helped a little as its quieter at startup, but now I hear a new noise. Not sure if Im just being hypersensitive because Im listening for for subtle changes or if there is a real issue. Also, changed the IMS bearing to an LN product, clutch and rms 5,000 miles ago so I can exclude that. Heres a quick video... hopefully the sound comes through. Almost sounds like something on the accessory circuit vs the engine because its not in sync with the engine Rpms. Water pump? Tensioner? Lifters? Bore scoring? Piston slap? Catastrophic rod knock... Or is it all in my head? Just wanted a gut check (or ear check) before I start tearing into it and diagnosing things that youre all hearing something unusual here as well. Thanks for listening!

POST 2Original post

I dont hear it over the noise of the alternator and/or secondary air pump. Can you take another video under the car and try to get as close to the noise as you can?
