I have replaced several of my constant pressure clamps with worm clamps and I've never had a problem on my 996 or on other vehicles over the last 40 years.

However, setting the expansion tank on the surgically clean assembly bench I noticed a new puddle of coolant under the tank in spite of carefully wiping it down.

I replaced the tank with a factory-$$$$$-labeled plastic (spit, spit) unit and I no longer have leaks in that area.

but that take you to a 997 part number, which will then require replacing 10, 11 with 997 parts from here:http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/hardparts.php?dir=997-05-08§ion=104-00

It's now a 997 part that requires replacing the metal bit it attaches to, and getting the clip off the other end of the hose was a bit of a pain, but the fit of the 997 part is really good, and it has positive feedback that it's all the way on and clipped in place.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well,
Just got a new to me 996 cab (1999 c4) and during first drive coolant low light came on.
Stopped and added coolant (had to get friend to drive me to autozone) and now testing in garage... found a massive coolant leak on passenger side when giving the engine gas.
Any ideas here to start to check and possible causes?
After checking - it seems to be leaking on a hose, see the screenshot. Any thoughts on possible cause?
Thanks in advance.
seller is well known, he had indicated that something similar happened about a week ago, but that it had been resolved.
sadly it seems the issue has not been resolved.
mis there a reason pressure would loosen that hose?
thanks!
Well, for one that is a aftermarket "worn gear" clamp, the factory uses "spring clamps" also known as "constant pressure clamps"..
Fact 1 . worm gear clamps can fail due to over torquing.
Fact 2 .worm gear clamps do not expand and contact with temperature changes, which can lead to a loose clamp after high temps.
Fact 3 while worn gear clamps can make a tighter seal if the correct torque is used, the correct torque is rarely ever used.
Fact 3 constant pressure clamps will maintain a set/designed clamp pressure throughout all temps
You could also have an imperfection in the ID of the rubber hose, or on the OD of the aluminum hose housing causing a leak no matter the clamp load. You will need to remove the connection for a visual inspection.
Hi
Found the hose and put back in place and tightened.
Refilled coolant and bled the system, then went for a quick drive. 2 minutes into the drive, leak started again and coolant low.
Im back home waiting for engine to cool so I can check if it is same hose.
Photo from earlier today included. I reused the clamp, but will try to find the positive pressure clamp mentioned above.
Any thoughts on part number/specs of clamp?
Thanks
again!
That hose is not seated on the pipe all the way. Drain out coolant. Loosen the clamp and pull the hose all the way off the fitting. Turn the clamp around so it is easier to access the tightening bolt. Slide the hose all the way up on the fitting so that no silver part is showing, like in your photos. Tighten the worm clamp. Worm clamps have been around a long time and actually work well. I have replaced several of my constant pressure clamps with worm clamps and I've never had a problem on my 996 or on other vehicles over the last 40 years.
Thanks. The picture is from before I made the change this morning. The recommendations are what I did before the drive this morning.... will try again shortly.
Hopefully this time it will take.
Worm gear clamps suck, if you want more clamp load than the constant tension factory clamps use these...

That hose is no longer available in that style any longer, latest upgrade requires new housing and upgrade hose having o ring and clip spring on both ends from OEM. just did this job myself.
I replaced this hose also. It's now a 997 part that requires replacing the metal bit it attaches to, and getting the clip off the other end of the hose was a bit of a pain, but the fit of the 997 part is really good, and it has positive feedback that it's all the way on and clipped in place.
Hopefully a clamp will work for OP. But, replacement isn't too bad.
If you need it, it's part 23 here,

I went through all of the above with new hoses, clamps, assorted Parris Island boot camp vernacular, and after a long cigar break with a cup of coffee.......I pulled the expansion tank and hoses off to look at everything. However, setting the expansion tank on the surgically clean assembly bench I noticed a new puddle of coolant under the tank in spite of carefully wiping it down. After plugging up most of the tank, I applied an air hose to one open line and submerged it into a water bucket, and found a hairline crack on the underside of the tank. I replaced the tank with a factory-$$$$$-labeled plastic (spit, spit) unit and I no longer have leaks in that area. Given that these tanks seem to have a short life span, one would think that at six hundred and thirty dollars for a factory 99610614756 plastic fantastic tank, somebody would have designed something better....... like Porschetech3's UAOS (which I am about to purchase later this week). That tank is a lot of money for plastic that seems to fail over time.
Ok, so I tried the same process again and tightened it while making sure it is located properly.
After bleeding the system I was able to drive 15 miles without issues. I am happy.
My only concern is that when I open the coolant reservoir to check, it seems to be under pressure. Theres a little filter that also seems to be dirty. Am I worrying too much now?
Your thoughts are welcome!
Thanks again!
