Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

First, you can buy some great parts off the shelf, granted you're paying more, but you're getting something tested where someone has done the math and tuned it.
Leading evidence: 'Test where someone has done the math and tuned it' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test performance gains and sound quality' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Companies that make custom exhausts test performance gains and sound quality, but they aren't cheap.

Suggestion
I assume they use the same muffler, cats and just fit on different tubes.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
I've been doing a lot of looking around on YouTube and other forums to see if anyone's ever done a custom exhaust on a 996 C2.
The lowest priced exhaust on the market (that I know of) is the Agency Power exhaust @ $995.00
Has anyone been able to do a custom on one of theses cars with better sound/performance results? I can see where the difficulty would be where the tailpipe and cat outputs come out of, and even an expert welder would need an appropriately chambered muffler to accommodate the outputs.
Please share if you've done a custom job or are aware of anything other than the Agency Power system. I'm building a damaged 996 C2 and I want to see if there are any options other than OEM.
Thanks!
I forgot to add that yes, I am aware of the "cat bypass" pipes but they are noticeably loud and to my knowledge offer no performance gain (quite the contrary in fact, also to my knowledge).
What drove me off from the Agency Power and Fabspeed systems was that users were mentioning that there was a good amount of drone. I want minimal drone.
Anyway, thanks for looking and feel free to share anything you got!
There are a ton of options but there are also a ton of things that don't seem to be working in your favor. First, you can buy some great parts off the shelf, granted you're paying more, but you're getting something tested where someone has done the math and tuned it. There doesn't seem to be a ton of room in there to do anything other than bypass pipes from the cat, and unless you find really small glass packs there doesn't seem like there is much room to do anything other than what you can buy online.
For all that it doesn't really make sense to me to pay a shop about the same amount of money to design and build something that you can find bolt in online.
IMO and having a beer.
I am going to try out the 997mk2 centre resonator, since my car has the stock side cans and no cats, and I hate the sound, at moments sounds like a ricer honda or smthng
the cat bypass pipes for me is a no-go
this is the setup, sorry for the crappy phone pic
So what's the goal with this post? Performance improvement? Sound improvement? Inexpensive? All three?
The problem with a custom fabricated exhaust is that it's not likely to be tested as mentioned above. Companies that make custom exhausts test performance gains and sound quality, but they aren't cheap.
I'd just get a set of Fisters and smile all the way to the bank. They offer great sound and they are inexpensive, but they don't improve performance. You can always add 200-cell cats to them if you want to open things up and potentially improve performance a little bit.
Loving the Fister....The sound is great on the old 996 C2 Cab. I passed on the coating but still think it was the
best vroom for the buck
. Installed in an afternoon. No drone and only gets mean when you open it up.
I had a complete S/S exhaust on my 04, 996. It was fantastic. I bought it all on ebay but I dont see much there anymore. It was partially from Max Speed. I think they were out of the cats so I bought them from another vendor. The whole thing cost about 2500.
I see A P now has the header and a couple other parts but not the whole system. I have had another A P system on my 997.2 and its the same parts but different tube shapes. I assume they use the same muffler, cats and just fit on different tubes.
I also assume the muffler and cats are made in china, because thats how some of the boxes were labeled.
But they work and sound good. Its all just piping for air to go thru and it doesnt do anything. Here is the current maxspeed system;

True! It can totally be done this way. Either remove the mufflers or remove the bumper.
Just figured it would be easier for the welder dude who puts his hand over his eyes instead of bothering to get goggles.
But if you hand him mufflers I'm sure that would be easier.
