Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I normally haunt the Turbo forum, as my car is an 01 Turbo. I thought I would ask this here though, as there are far more NA-996's....so I might have a better chance at a good answer. I have a 2001 Turbo, and a prior owner put a sound system in that I am taking out. In doing so I want to move to carbon pieces. In doing so I am also putting in an iPad Mini. To do this I need to order a new horseshoe and the piece behind it that bolts to the dash. Since the whole A/C console needs to come out, can I, and is there any reason to move to the later model horseshoe? I believe the 02- horseshoe is 1 pieces, vs the pre '02 is multiple pieces (each side comes off, and then the vent and center is part of the back piece).

POST 2Original post

I've never actually made the switch but my WAG is that it can be done. I think you'd have to replace the air duct behind the horseshoe for proper mating as the shape is different . Have you looked at DBCarbon? They have both versions at very good prices. My brother had to replace his horseshoe due to cracking and he went that route. The carbon matches all the other factory carbon perfectly and the piece is beautiful. So much so that I'm thinking on getting one to tie in with the carbon shifter and handbrake my car has.

I am looking at DB Carbon. After looking at mine (while sealing up the wiring form he PO's stereo as prep for an iPad install) I think the '01 will work fine for the iPad. Changing that ducking behind the horseshoe looks like it would be a PITA, and who knows the the next duct in the stream would also need to be changed. I am aso looking at DB's center console as well.
