I took the front plastic panel off my C4S on Saturday to just check the torque on anything I could tighten (trying to find noise) and the front diagonal supports looked like they were rusty.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took the front plastic panel off my C4S on Saturday to just check the torque on anything I could tighten (trying to find noise) and the front diagonal supports looked like they were rusty. Not sure if possible but they looked it. Are they as easy to pull off as just taking the bolts off at each end and pulling off? Can the car be on stands or do the wheels need to be supported? Are they under any pressure. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

They are under no stress and can be removed at any time. Bolts are spec'd at 100 Nm torque.

They're steel. My flashlight with a magnet sticks to them quite well.

POST 5Original post

They're plated as well. The "rust" may be cosmolene protectant. Or it may actually be rust if the zinc coating has been lost.

POST 6Original post

Are you referring to #3 in this diagram? If so, it is definitely NOT steel, at least stock.

Only the rear one that goes all the way across is aluminum - the diagonal ones are all steel

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are steel. The top still had the coating, the bottom was rusty. I just pulled off, cleaned up a bit and painted them with por-15. Should be protected now.

POST 10Original post

Big confusion on which part you’re referring to. I assumed you were talking about the diagonal bars under the plastic under the hood. 1 near the cabin air filter and 1 near the brake master cylinder.

POST 11Original post

They are zinc plated steel. Inexpensive new, but I do have two good ones if you need to replace yours. PM me. Godspeed! Dave

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Part 14. I took care of the rust problem for now. Dont see them so might as well try to protect them.
