This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I would check on the extent of damage but that also means there is fresh paint in the place the wreck happened as long as it was minor that might be a bad deal.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking to get back into a 996 and saw this locally:

Carfax does show minor to moderate accident damage in 2016.
Asking $40k
For what seems the highest prices these cars sell for check out BAT (Bring A Trailer) auction site as a reference. INMHO, $40k for a car with accident damage is a strong pass for me. Unless we are talking about minor front or rear bumper damage or minor (very minor) dent repair, it doesn't take much to tweak the body that could result in drivability, alignment, tire wear issues. If you want to pursue plan to find a local independent Porsche mechanic who is familiar with the 996 platform to do an extensive Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI).
This is a very well optioned Targa, get an extensive PPI, might not be as bad.

The mileage looks good. You will pay a small premium to get a yellow color right now as well. I would check on the extent of damage but that also means there is fresh paint in the place the wreck happened as long as it was minor that might be a bad deal. If the car has had regular service the price should be around 35K. They do have it priced on the high side.
I think seller wants a few thousand dollars for the mere fact the trip odometer has never been reset. This has to be some sort of accomplishment.
And to answer your question mj, depending on extent of accident damage, I'd offer $32 - 35,000.

My 2002 targa w/PSE had no dash switch. I added one myself. The wiring was there, all I had to do was source the switch. I also modded the relay so it didn't automatically shut PSE off from 30-50MPH or whatever the numbers are.
This looks to me to be a rare bird -- Speed Yellow, targa, nice option list. I'd want a thorough investigation of accident damage of course, but I wouldn't let that stop me from pursuing the car.

The PSE button could be below this image on in the lower console on the 'batwing'. Most likely the targa roof button is there as well.

Good point. Weird how button placement isnt consistent on these cars..or so it seems.
Batwing looks like heated seats, roof and sunshade?
$30-40k depends on condition/needs
looks nice. I would have cleaned it better.

Ah yes, I didnt look at the other photos in the advert.
It's missing a button/blank in the center console near the handbrake however... maybe the PSE button is there and pushed in too far (Photo 16)
