Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I looked but, there are so many threads, I gave up. My Driver's side door, when I pull up the latch will drop the window but, the door won't open. Have tried it from the outside and inside and no luck. It is a 2001 996 Cabriolet. What do I need to replace?
You need to replace the looking mechanism.
try to apply pressure to the door from the outside, And then pull the handle.
it worked for me when mine went out.
Kind of a side question that I was searching the forum over the weekend;
What about if the window won't drop the full amount? I attempted the hold up for 10 seconds then down for 10 seconds for it to calibrate, but that didn't do anything. Did some tests with the passenger window to see where it stops with the door open and closed, and open it stops at the appropriate limit, then goes up into the window frame. The driver window will drop maybe .100" so it clears the window frame, but is too close for comfort. I feel the calibration should fix this since it IS dropping, just not all the way?
The window regulator is old and the cables have stretched. You need to replace the window regulator. Do a search on here. There are numerous threads on the topic. Do not go el cheapo, you will regret that in 2-3 years, get a Porsche OE window regulator.
Like others said, it's the locking mechanism that needs to be replaced. If you follow the steps in that thread, it's pretty straight forward. It happened to me. I could not get the door to open in the heat of the day. Let it cool down in the garage, and the door locking and unlocking worked again. But if the car sat out in direct heat, the door would not open. Apparently, the heat was aggravating the issue.
Thanks Joe. I had done a good bit of searching but kept falling into door lock mechanism threads and doing the calibration cycle so your feedback is appreciated. Will get part ordered today, definitely been quite an annoyance.
