This is not a probability of success.

I've read through the threads stating the requirement to get a letter of compliance, having to pay an import tax and changing the speedometer, but curious if anyone knows whether or not the 996 can be imported with the aftermarket parts on it or if it needs to converted back to stock?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking at a Canadian 996 but it has aftermarket intake and header and is on coilovers. I've read through the threads stating the requirement to get a letter of compliance, having to pay an import tax and changing the speedometer, but curious if anyone knows whether or not the 996 can be imported with the aftermarket parts on it or if it needs to converted back to stock? I've read that CBP officers really just do a check of the VIN as long as you have the letter of compliance. Also, how rare are the following options for the 996: 139 / 340 - Heated seats 375 / 376 - 2 way electrical sport seats 981 - Leather dashboard / doorpanels

POST 2Original post

Not sure on the compliance issues Those are not rare options

POST 3Original post

I think it depends on the state, those things don't matter in FL for instance but might in other states.

POST 4Original post

In order to import - make sure to have a clearance of all recalls preformed and letter proving it , bill off sale ownership and all required EPA and DOT forms ! Rest is dependent on your state inspection, if in Cali it may not pass with headers unless CARB approved. https://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-impo.../importing-car There are many places that can do the process for you and deliver the vehicle directly precleared - costs anywhere from $250-500 (on top of transport and other govt fees)

POST 5Original post

My car was imported from Canada 15 years ago and still have the kph speedo. The digital display in the cluster can show MPH so I guess that should be compliant enough. I prefer by far the metric units
