I had a hell of a time getting mine installed - they just didn't want to sit properly and ended up chipping my reflector in a small spot and cracking one of the tail light lenses.

And then used a simple wire to hold the tail light in case the tail lights decides to go for a ride.

Install was super easy, but I did have to adjust the passenger side light just a hair for a perfect fit.

Cut a little channel into the top of the tail light flange using a dremel with cutoff wheel.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Despite my problems, I'd also recommend them to anyone with a C4S or turbo - and the guy that makes/sells them is super responsive and was kind enough to send a few replacements with modifications, but none of them worked for me.
Noticed I had the cracked tail light brackets on my C4S and decided to take care of it right away. I've seen a couple of threads and youtube videos of other owner's tail lights falling out and that was not going to happen to me.
You can buy them on Ebay and make an offer for $60, it will auto accept and you will save $10. Ordered on a Monday and got them the same week on Thursday.

Initially mine were just cracked around the screw, but as soon as I removed it the plastic broke free as shown in the middle pic.
Very glad I jumped on this when I did. Install was super easy, but I did have to adjust the passenger side light just a hair for a perfect fit. Only took a few minutes.
I don't normally don't do product endorsements, but I agree. These saved me from buying two complete taillight assemblies. I had to adjust mine on both sides for proper fit and hood clearance on closing, not a big deal.
Glad you caught it!
Another tip...When you install them don't tighten the screws down too much. I've read to just snug it up nice or the light saver could crack in the future as well.
Did you have any trouble with fitment? I had a hell of a time getting mine installed - they just didn't want to sit properly and ended up chipping my reflector in a small spot and cracking one of the tail light lenses. I bet I removed the tail lights themselves 30 times and made all types of adjustments to try to get them in without coming into contact with the decklid. The only thing that ended up working was sanding them quite a bit in various places on both sides by hand. Despite my problems, I'd also recommend them to anyone with a C4S or turbo - and the guy that makes/sells them is super responsive and was kind enough to send a few replacements with modifications, but none of them worked for me.
That is very strange. Mine fit perfectly, no problems at all. The only reason I adjusted one of the tail lights was I noticed the passenger side light was a hair lower than the driver side. It had always been that way but I never really noticed it until installing the light savers and checking them for proper figment. Glad you eventually were able to make them work.
The same thing happened to me. Went to check them, they had a small crack. Went to install the savers and when I unscrewed the originals they almost disintegrated in my hand.
I also had a hell of a time with fitment issues but I'm an idiot when it comes to even the simplest installs so 1 hour for this and watching the video 4 times was par for the course.
This "mod" is a no brainer, everyone should get these.
Anyone know part number for the stepped washer? One of mine is missing and without it, there is a gap between the Lightsaver and the existing bracket.
Thanks.
I bought the Light Savers some time ago, and tried to install them. Honestly, they didn't work. They are supposed to slide into a channel in the tail light, but they didn't fit. As someone mentioned above, he had to do a bunch of trimming and sanding, etc. I wasn't gonna go that far. They are made of some molded plastic, and the result just doens't fit. The plastic is flexible, and bendy, and the finish isn't very good, the shape is supposed to match the channel in the tail light. Anyway -- on my car they prevented the taillight from fitting flush against the engine lid, and the light savers made a large gap.
I went a different route. Cut a little channel into the top of the tail light flange using a dremel with cutoff wheel. Cut all the way through to make a small hole. And then used a simple wire to hold the tail light in case the tail lights decides to go for a ride. Yeah, for purists this might seem like a hack, but it was so easy and so little time needed for installation compared to the Light Savers.
My unused light savers are on ebay.
Mine worked perfectly with minor adjustments to the drivers side bracket? I have done mine and two others so far with basically no problems other then minor adjustments.
One trick is to mount the top screw first.
You need a thinner set of Light Savers. Message me your address and I will ship you a set, they will work. Some people have a tighter clearance, this has happened on a few C4S cars, I have not heard of it yet on a Turbo.

I've seen this product on the market for quite a long time and must have for the wide body cars. I don't think it's an issue with the NB car since the rear light mounts are made different and don't have the cracking problem like the 996 Turbo and C4S.
I am another satisfied user of the lightsavers. When I replaced the bulbs in my tail lights the passenger side mounts just fell apart. Driver side was fine. Thankfully I had these on hand and they fit right on with no trimming or adjusting. My car is a 2004 C4S Cab.
The thinner stronger metal Light Savers are now available on eBay, rennfix.com, Amazon, and direct paypal.
Check them out on the website rennfix.com. If you track your 996tt, C4S or GT2, these are a must have!
Went out to the garage the other day and noticed one tail light had a bigger gap than the other. Well....I was this close to having my lights go bouncing down the freeway. Ordered light savers. Even for someone as mechanically inept as me, it was a two minute job.
