A lot of that is due to him leaving the cars out in the sun for a few days to smooth the wrinkles...

This looks like a good alternative to buying 17 to 21 year old used seats that are, well, 17 to 21 years old.

Suggestion
Thanks a ton for the review and photos- I ordered a set of sample swatches from Lseat about a year ago to check colors and they seemed pretty decent.

I'm waiting for my steam carpet cleaner to arrive so I can clean the carpets before I install the seats.

A friend of mine that lives two houses down and owns an upholstery shop, and does all the convertible top repair/replacement for the Porsche dealer and Audi dealer ect.

Used seats are not getting better with age, and a good used set will be about $900 shipped or more, and did I mention the leather would be over 15 years old?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks a ton for the review and photos- I ordered a set of sample swatches from Lseat about a year ago to check colors and they seemed pretty decent. I'd like to recover the sport seats in my '99 C4 and just haven't pulled the trigger yet. This might help me make up my mind.
Bill,
A couple of follow-up questions-
Any qualitative statement on the leather? Looks like good quality, grain not unusual, is it definitely leather?
Does it smell odd or plasticky/petro-like?
Feel greasy or different than expected?
Just looking for a couple more bits of info that might be helpful.
Thanks!
Thanks for the product details !! I need to get a set of Metropol Blue ones. I have installed the Porsche OEM sets, they are really easy, good to see that these install the same way, if they just would fix the few issues, would be a cake-walk..
definitely leather....like I mentioned earlier they are a little thicker than OEM.
not greasy at all. In fact, they were kind of dry so I conditioned them after I got them back
no weird smells. Smells like leather.
leather is good quality. I don't see any blemishes or flaws.
I'll use them again!
Bill, these were "supple leather" seat kits, not the standard seat leather?
FWIW, I understand what Imo000 is saying. From my air-cooled days, I am used to seeing seats done by Tony Garcia at Autobahn that are 100% identical to the factory. But then again, you would be looking at $2-3k per seat.
I guess it is a matter of expectations. If all you were looking for was better than worn out originals and wanted more than Wet Okle's, you look great. But you are also not in the zip code of factory quality.
Maybe he didn't like what I wrote and decided to take his ball and leave the sandbox.
Guys, it is a terrible fitting product especially when you consider it was installed by a professional so they did all they could to make it look as good as it possible can. And yet it still looked pretty bad. If good quality replacement covers are not in my budget, I would just look for a pair of good used seats and re dye them. But that's just me.
Ok but it's a review of the product so honesty is what should be expected. My comments were not against the OP, he didn't make the covers or even install them so he isn't at fault in any way.
I can't be totally honest because I'm biased against Raff, Draped, Gathered, Supple Leather on Sports Car Seats. My only preference is taught Perforated Leather. I would like to see a set from Lseat that were the standard Perforated Leather installed.
[QUOTE=Imo000;16625104]I've seen redone Porsche seats and the end results of this product look terrible. This is not what a reupholstered seat should look like .[/QUOTE
Dont buy it then.
I may repost later under a different thread title. I did not delete because I was upset with critical reviews. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and on the internet people are quick to express that opinion. I deleted because I want to set the proper expectations. It would be unfair to compare these seats (total investment $650 including labor) to a $5 or $6k custom leather reupholstery job. In fact, it would be ridiculous to do so. Someone looking for an inexpensive way to get their car looking decent (especially someone with a cab with trashed seats) might read some of these comments and be scared off from looking for lower cost alternatives to the high end jobs.
Let's face it, the 996 is the bottom of the pecking order these days in the 911 world. Very few cars will sell for more than $20k on a good day. And, those that do, won't need new seats. I can't see spending a quarter of the cars value on seats unless you really love the car.
Buying good used seats is great if you can find a set in the color and upholstery type you want. Otherwise, you can buy in a different color and have them "redyed" (painted) and hope it lasts. I've seen that done several times and I've never seen them hold up long term.
I'm waiting for my steam carpet cleaner to arrive so I can clean the carpets before I install the seats. I think the seats will look much better in the car than out. Once I have those pictures I may post a new thread.
I apologize to those who want to see the review. However, I think the community will be better served with a thread that sets expectations up front.
A little "nip and tuck" does a lot for seat upholstery as well as convertible top fabric. Also some "time in the sun" will smooth out a lot of wrinkles.
A friend of mine that lives two houses down and owns an upholstery shop, and does all the convertible top repair/replacement for the Porsche dealer and Audi dealer ect. He is very slow at delivering a car back after a convertible top replacement or seat cover replacement. A lot of that is due to him leaving the cars out in the sun for a few days to smooth the wrinkles...
This looks like a good alternative to buying 17 to 21 year old used seats that are, well, 17 to 21 years old. For the money, if they last its money well spent. Used seats are not getting better with age, and a good used set will be about $900 shipped or more, and did I mention the leather would be over 15 years old?
And it looks like the initial result was quite similar. It would be interesting to follow up with the OP of that thread to see how the seats worked out over time.
