Am I correct in assuming I don't need to worry about shifter/cable alignment when changing the mount

If I am chosen for the give away, my plan was to replace the bolts and nuts, replace my bushing then, make this tool available again to the community through this thread.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking for someone who will rent me their transimission mount removal/installation tool for a manual 996. I have messaged a few members who were renting them in the past but have not gotten any responses.
If you can find them, long ratcheting 13mm wrenches will be helpful. My normal length gearwrench ratcheting wrench broke installing the new mount. Even after leaving the mount in the freezer for a few days, and lubing the transmission.

Just got done renting the mount replacement tool from
Binaryaudax
and it was a piece of cake to use. I tried to make my own and no way would it work as well as the correct tool. For $50 that it cost me in the end, it saved me ton of frustration.
binaryaudax
is super quick at getting the tool out to you and then crediting you back the $50 deposit. Highly recommend him!
I'd be interested in renting the transmission mount tool if it's available.
I have a few questions regarding transmission mount replacement:
1
. Am I correct in assuming I don't need to worry about shifter/cable alignment when changing the mount
2
. Is there any preferred brand that is an exact match for OEM? Pelican shows 4 options (I'm assuming these are all for
manual
transmission -- Pelican does not ask about transmission type when you enter your car info (996.1 / Coupe / C2), nor do the Pelican part descriptions clarify manual or Tiptronic
) :
Uro

Lemforder

. Do I also need the Mount Stop:

. Any other parts needed than mounts & stop?
1. Yes, you dont need to touch the shifter cables, so the alignment will remain unchanged.
2. Of your list, I would prefer to use either Lemforder or the Porsche branded one.
3. You probably dont need a mount stop. Mine were fine when I changed my mount.
Have you considered a polyurethane transmission mount insert by Function First? I used their mildest insert, the orange one, and liked its effect during shifting. There is a very noticeable increase in NVH, so it may be unacceptable to you.
If you get a mount insert, you wont need to use those mount stops.
4. Id probably purchase a fuel filter and change it out at the same time. The filter is accessible after the transmissions been lowered, and you wont have to drain any coolant if you squeeze some of the coolant hoses aside.
Thanks, great info. Im looking just to have OEM mounts (no NVH increase). It shifts very well, but my son has had difficulty downshifting under hard braking in autocross, so I think the transmission mount is worn (already did the motor mounts, also with OEM).
Ill definitely look into replacing the fuel filter at the same time.
If you have the spare change, I would go ahead and order the mount stops to replace. I think its better to replace, only because you can avoid doing the same job twice.
(I removed the transmission mount bracketry three times this year and the teadiousness got old.)
Does that mean you don't need the tool either if you are using "inserts". If so, then I'd be interested in finding and OEM-type insert, if such a thing exists.
Thanks, then I'll definitely order them. I'm assuming I need 2 per car (Pelican doesn't say
).

No, these inserts will fill the voids of your transmission mount, and additionally eliminate your mount stops.
The only scenario where you wont need the transmission mount replacement tool is if your transmission mount is not torn. The AGA tool is fantastic, it makes the job really easy. Be sure to have some grease or anti-seize handy to ease with mount installation.
I just realized autocross is subject to class rules, and I have no idea if these inserts are in violation. So, its probably safer if you dont install them.
Yes, youll need two mount stops for each car.
My apologies for being unclear about all this. Let me know if I need to explain further.
That tool is available on Amazon for $189 and on the CTA tool Website price at 275$ it is sold out.

@05SpeedYellow
I received my tool back from the previous renter, but unfortunately the threads are stripped and the tool is no longer usable. Sorry.
Edit: Giving away the tool for free in the Pay It Forward thread:

Hi
@binaryaudax
, I replied in the Pay it Forward thread. If I am chosen for the give away, my plan was to replace the bolts and nuts, replace my bushing then, make this tool available again to the community through this thread. No worries if you selected someone else, I hope they will do the same. Thanks again!
