Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am doing a PCA event in June. This will be my first track day. I signed up for an instructor. 1) What should I do to my car to get it ready? 2) What track insurance would you recommend? 3) What else should I know? Thank you in advance! Mark

POST 2Original post

Hey Mark, You will get greater responses likely over on the the track day section, but here’s a few suggestions. 1) Remove all loose items. Flush brake fluid. Ensure pads have at least 50% pad remaining. Have a mechanic do a comprehensive inspection of the car, top to bottom and document it on the inspection sheet (I don’t know if you’re doing PCA, but they have a form available for download on the website). Make sure tires are in good condition. 2) Can’t answer this one, sorry 3) Bring an open mind. This is an event to learn, not to show how fast you and your car is. Listen carefully to your instructor, and most importantly, have fun!

POST 4Original post

This topic has been covered pretty extensively. Here's an example thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...or-advice.html Good luck and have fun! 1) What should I do to my car to get it ready? - see above thread 2) What track insurance would you recommend? - None. Don't track a car (or even own it!) if you can't afford to throw it away. I'm not saying you will throw it away; on the contrary, you almost certainly will not, and the insurance will thus be a complete waste of money! It's just that you won't have any fun if you're afraid of damaging something that will really dent you financially. Drive a car where it won't make you sick, or poor, if it gets damaged somehow. Listen to your instructor, drive within your limits, have a great time, and instead of enriching an insurance company, save that money and put it towards your next track day, or your next set of tires or brakes instead. You'll do fine! 3) What else should I know? - see above thread

Respectfully, #2 is weird advice....I assume you don't insure your street car either....I have many cars some are very valuable and all are insured. I also insure my cars when I take on the track so I don't worry about something happening and focus on driving. I am not sure its fair to assume someones financial state for asking. Reminds me of a few decades back when I went to buy my first Mercedes and asked for the price...the dealer said " I can't afford it if I have to ask", I told him its because I ask I have the money to buy it and walked out and went to another dealer and ordered the car. Many Mercedes, Porsches and Lambos later, I still ask the price. And guess what, in each case I got the best deal around....oh and btw, I also have an umbrella insurance policy to protect my assets to protect my wealth.... So the net is, if it allows you to drive with more confidence, insurance is a good thing.

No, public roads are a very dangerous place where I'm likely to get in an accident with another driver, or a deer, or whatever. I might encounter an uninsured driver, incur medical expenses, etc. The cost of a street accident could be millions of dollars, most driver suck, and it's a completely chaotic and barely-regulated environment, so insurance is a necessary evil for all of us. Driving on a track is completely the opposite. It's highly-regulated, everybody is doing the same direction at roughly the same speed, completely focused on the task at hand, with instructors guiding them every step of the way. The odds of an accident are exceedingly low if you just act responsibly. The fact that OP is even asking about track insurance and what else he needs to know, and that he requested an instructor, tells me he'll take it easy and be smart. He's not going to crash his car on his first track day. The 2nd part of the theory is just that 996s aren't worth any money. Most of these cars are worth like high teens or low 20s, so there's not really a point in spending hundreds of dollars per event to insure against a very low-probability chance of damage to a low-value car. Plus you have to look carefully at the deductible; if you have an incident you might be opening your wallet again anyway for that. For me the math just doesn't add up. I've spent about a hundred days on racetracks and never had an incident. If I'd bought insurance for all of those days, I could have bought another 996 instead. I'd rather do that than help an insurance company buy fancier offices Everybody has different levels of comfort!! To each his own. I'm not saying insurance is always a bad idea, I'm just saying a responsible dude at his first track day with a reasonably-priced car will be just fine and could find more rewarding ways to blow a few hundred dollars
