Cosmetically I would prefer to change the odometer to reflect the real mileage of the car.

Also the Boxster S switch should fit so you could use a more generic plug type.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking for a replacement connector that plugs into the reverse light switch on the tranny. Right now I am left with only two bare wires this is the actual switch for a manual 996 (part# 996 606 103 01) , looking for the matching connector Anybody an idea where to look for one? Does not seem to be possible to order it new. And until now did not find a source. I have been told it is also used in Volkswagen. Not sure if this is correct.

POST 2Original post

There are quite a few connectors from different manufacturers so one from a Volkswagen is a definite possibility. I've found BMW connectors and Mercedes connectors on my car as well! Anyway, i'd try a salvage yard but its going to be difficult to get them to sell you such a small connector especially if you don't go to the yard in person! I'd be looking on ebay or the classifieds to see if an individual is wrecking a 996.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went a bit deeper researching. Found that the reverse light swith on a 986 S 2000-2004 has a more standard Bosch connector. So I will find the complementary plug more easily Part # 996 606 133 00 Good chance this switch socket will fit.

Nice work, I really enjoy a good research challenge like that.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AI think it is realtime silly that they did not standardise this. Or at least make the plug available as replacement part.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 14187902

There are quite a few things missing from the EPC or that aren't available like certain plug connectors.

POST 7Original post

You might try this guy. I've found he could source some pretty obscure connectors. Send him a picture of what you have and see what he can come up with. http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__...onnectors.html

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We are getting there. I have found some cross references Back Up Lamp Switch AIRTEX 1S6993 Interchange Part Number: 996 606 103 01, LS-224, S9211, RB451, 53-11798 Other Part Number: NS6538, 1S6993, E2216D Switch gender: male Connector Gender: Female The same switch is used in some Chevrolet Models and the Saab 9-5 I suppose dismantlers of these cars are more keen on cutting apart the harness then one coming of a Porsche. Edit: found the right plug ... thanx for all the input!

How did you end up getting it? Might help someone else in the future

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I called a Volvo/Saab dismantler and they had two Saab 9-5 transmissions where the plug was still sitting on the gearbox. If you check on eBay with the references from above you can find a list of cars to look for. I will post here if it is really the correct one they found. Will also give feedback if the Boxster S switch with the more generic Bosch connector fits.

POST 11Original post

PM me if it does not end up being the correct plug. I'm parting out a 2000 C4 with manual transmission and could snip that connector for you.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the offer. But I found a plug from a Saab 9-5 and can confirm it fits. Also the Boxster S switch should fit so you could use a more generic plug type. This was the last hardware thingy of my tip-to-manual conversion

Woah, tell us more!

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yess, I will post some more info in a new topic in the forum. First I want to drive the car a while to see if everything functions as it should. I did not do the conversion myself. It was my mechanic. He did it before, in his project car (997 with 3.4L engine tip to manual convert) , and in fact it is fairly 'easy' once gone through all of It before. Mechanically it is more or less straight forward. Just for the 996 some connectors are different . Reprogramming the ECU and other electronics seems to be a bit challenging at first but once you know how to do it it is also doable. In total the conversion took around 20hrs of labour. Which sounds a lot but my Porsche specialist here has an hour rate of when converted to USD around 65$/hr. No US rates luckily! My task was to go and gather all the parts. G96 gearbox, shift bracket, cables, drive shafts, instrument cluster, brake and throttle pedal with mount, ... I will be selling all the tiptronic parts the next coming weeks, normally It should cover for the labour, maybe some extra.

POST 15Original post

Sounds like a good exercise, I had read someone else had done this actually.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To be honest ... once I bit the bullet and bought a second hand gearboxhand I starter to be scared a bit. It is the most expensive part, and it signals more or less the point of no return! What if the gearbox was bad, what if there were some unexpected problems, etc ... oh my god. Turned out to be some minor things like a connector and a scarred instrument panel window, to finish the car. One thing left is the steering wheel. Tempted to go for the T96 steering wheel from DCT MS. Cosmetically I would prefer to change the odometer to reflect the real mileage of the car. The instrument panel I bought has 30.000miles less.

POST 18Original post

resurrecting this thread, I've been looking for a pig tail/connector for the reverse light switch on my cup car transaxle. Turns out this switch is extremely common, and as per our member's citation above, has many part numbers including AC Delco. After getting a quote for $30 to pull a plug off a Saab, I decided to do a little more digging. This connector looks very much like a NTK wheel speed sensor, part 1P1362, which cost me $13 shipped to the house. Hopeful this will solve my issue.

POST 19Original post

RockAuto has what appears to be the original plug (not the Boxster BOSCH one) here for $10: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...onnector,10187

POST 20Original post

gotta love Rockauto, that's the plug I ordered through Amazon. Wonder why RA didn't come up on my google search?

POST 21Original post

I got the part and can confirm it does work OK. The body is a good fit, but the pins in the switch seem to be somewhat larger than the receptacles. Knowing that the switch itself is readily available, I elected to force the pigtail into the socket part way, pull it off and then insert a sharp awl into the sockets of the pigtail to create more room for the pins. Then I forced home the pigtail. Haven't tested the switch in a circuit yet as bodywork is not yet installed, but continuity did check out appropriately.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
