Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Herb Chambers Porsche of Boston has a 1999 Carrera Coupe 6 speed with only 31k miles for $21,900. Don't know the options but thought this was and outstanding price for a 99 with only 31k miles especially coming from a Porsche dealer.

POST 2Original post

I just checked KBB for a '99 911, and my jaw is on the floor. I realize that KBB has been coming in low for 996's - but when I specified a '99 with 31K miles, KBB suggested a price range of $13,595 to $15,888. WTF?

POST 3Original post

Yeah KBB values have been showing way lower than any asking prices I've seen. I know a good Indy mechanic down the street from Herb Chambers, in Brighton (Boston) if you need a PPI. German Performance Service, owned by Marc Feinstein. Great guy, great mechanic. Went to high school with him.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

KBB is useless IMO. I always stick with NADA.

POST 5Original post

Those little books are all useless--what they really go off of is auction prices and knowing how much they could dump the car for if necessary.

POST 6Original post

Wow there pricing for most used cars there seem pretty good...the website, looks like its about 10 years behind the curve though

+996. Generally I've found NADA to be more accurate for enthusiast cars like older Porsches and BMW's. As for the Boston deal, show them the KBB price and negotiate the $13.5k price WITH a 2yr warranty thrown in. Yeah right...

POST 8Original post

I bought my car from Herb Chambers in Boston. She was used and sitting on the showroom floor. While it was a dream come true, the "deal" was somewhat anti-climatic. They were asking absolute top dollar, given the low miles............thankfully there were 2 others, similarly equipped in the Greater Boston area, at that time. One on the South Shore at Rietzel, one up North in Danvers, MA. The competition was the single biggest factor in negotiation a price that I could live with to do the deal with Herb Chambers. So, find some local, direct competition from Danvers, South Shore or even Nashua, NH and give it your best shot. My .02
