Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My ignition key blade separated from the key head and while removing the key blade from the ignition switch with a wrench, the igniton surround got a little scratched. I'd like to replace the ignition key surround but I don't know how difficult that would be. Has anyone done this and does anyone have instructions?

POST 2Original post

You just pull it out. I'd probably use a trim tool if you have it. Replacement can be found at the dealer, on Ebay, or here for example: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/9X6IGTRIM.html

I found this out myself. I just pulled it out. The replacement is pricey so I just might but a black one because it scratches easily. Since the black one is black through and through, the scratches in the painted one won't show the black underneath.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The key blade got a bit mangled when I was pulling it of the ignition with a wrench, so now I have to get a new metal blade also. My question is: do I have to buy the blade from a Porsche dealer and have a locksmith cut it to duplicate the original key or if I give the dealer my VIN does it come pre-cut?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I actually have three. One is a small "valet" key which doesn't have a remote in it.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My dealer wants around $190 for a new metal key laser cut to my VIN. I called a local locksmith who said the charge for laser cutting the metal key would be $125 for labor alone. The key blank will cost me around $40 (from an online Porsche dealer). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a new metal key for my car?
