Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I had the exact same problem and this solved it for me as well.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The plastic snap in the key head on my key broke and the battery door on the key head would not stay closed. I bought a new key case online. I transferred the electronics and metal key part from my original Porsche key to the replacement key case. When I push the lock/unlock button on the key head the car locks/unlocks just fine. However, when I put the replacement key in the ignition switch and turn it the car does not start. (The original key worked fine.) Any ideas on what to try to fix it?

POST 2Original post

Move the transponder pill from the old key to the new key. It's about the size of a grain of rice. Yours may be in a different place in the key, but here is what they look like:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does the black cylinder protect the transponder pill or is the pill the black cylinder? I'm only asking because mine is wedged into the key case and I don't want to damage the RFID chip prying the cylinder out.

POST 4Original post

I do not understand your question. This is a transponder "pill": The units are centimeters.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey cds72911, Thanks for all the help! My key now locks/unlocks the doors and starts the car. Sorry about the confusion in my previous post. I was expecting a glass transponder pill similar to what you posted in your last message. My RFID chip is a black piece of plastic. The RFID chip must be embedded in it. When I cut it out of my OEM case and put it in the replacement case everything was good. Thanks again. jimbo8351 RFID transponder chip. LOcation of transponder chip in key head.

Thanks. I had the exact same problem and this solved it for me as well.

POST 8Original post

This thread had exactly the info I needed! The plastic casing on my 997.1 key broke. I bought a new key shell online, and transferred the metal key and circuit board into it. This new key setup would unlock the doors and trunk but would not start the car. As recommended here, I removed the RFID transponder device from the old key (small black part just as shown in the picture in this thread). It was a major challenge to get it out of the old key and trim away enough of the plastic glued to it so that it would fit in the new key. Once I finally got it installed in the new key and closed the new key shell it works perfectly. Beautiful. Thanks so much for the help here.
