Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The pro version cannot really do much coding on these cars - IE not much is available to change/update in Durametric.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking at "affordable" diagnostics tools and see that CARLY is saying it works on the 996 gen Porsches. Does anyone have any first hand experience using CARLY (the ODB tool) on their 996? Thanks!

Some things aren't worth saving money on. A dedicated diagnostic tool for a car you intend to keep isn't one of them. Get a Durametric - Less than $300 new.

POST 4Original post

As someone that bought a Durametric and also had to get a cheapo windows laptop, I'd say the enthusiast version is not that great a deal. You can't code things, most of the live sensor value data is cool but there's very little explanation of what things do, etc. Buy a used professional version or get something else. My 2 cents.

POST 6Original post

The OPs original question was about Carly. I have 3 vehicles in my household and one is a 99 996 c2. I find that Carly is a near beginner obd2 scanner with the ability to clear codes on my 996. It also does a great job with my wifes LX350 and my own diesel grand Cherokee. if you have any specific questions about the Carly I can do my best to help answer them. The Carly for 996 is pretty much only able to read and clear codes. Its not a replacement for something like a durometric or other solution. Maybe on newer DMEs it is better, but I think the only reason I have kept it around is that I can get most of what I need to know from the error codes and it is helpful for the other vehicles. Its a shame because I believe it could do a lot more to be able to read out more values like cam timing deviation and things, but a lot of that just doesnt work. I would think that the durometric is a better all round tool for actual troubleshooting.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
