Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I tested the intermediate shaft tensioner in some oil which made it quite hard to push in suggesting that it's good to be reused.

I've searched to see if anyone has done a tutorial on how to physically check the function of the chain tensioners but most speak of symptoms regarding chain noise.
Leading evidence: 'Test intermediate shaft tensioner in some oil' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check function of the chain tensioners' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Jud at LN recommended I replace them as I reported to him that it was necessary to rotate beyond TDC to successfully line the two cam to be locked.
Replace tensioner only if necessary as they are somewhat costly

I would want to replace a tensioner only if necessary as they are somewhat costly.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've taken out the two chain tensioners prior to IMSB replacement one by the oil filter and bank 1.
Attached is a video. The tensioner closest to oil filter is easily depressed down but the one near bank 1 required much more force.
I've supposed that the tensioner by bank 1 is healthy whereas the one by the oil filter needs replacing.
Is this correct?
Jud at LN recommended I replace them as I reported to him that it was necessary to rotate beyond TDC to successfully line the two cam to be locked.
I would want to replace a tensioner only if necessary as they are somewhat costly. I didn't remove the tensioner near the A/C compressor as it was difficult to access.
However I may have to check its health as well.
Just replace them, they are not expensive and can cut down on start up rattle, porsche has also superseded the original version with a few updates over the years , there are two underneath which are easy to do but bank two tensioner is under the power steering pump !
Sure i know. Just wondering if anyone knew how to examine the tensioners
i think bank 1 tensioner is fine just the tensioner by oil filter is not.. maybe
Well i went ahead and bought the genuine coolant tank from (autonationparts.com) for $132 and the bank 1 tensioner for $104.
I tested the intermediate shaft tensioner in some oil which made it quite hard to push in suggesting that it's good to be reused.
On the other hand the bank 1 tensioner was still easily pushed down despite taking in oil. It still took some effort but definitely not what
i expected with oil inside it.
