Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The LN oil filter conversion looks like a great idea, but how do we inspect the filter for metallic material in oil?

Can I install the LN Engineering oil filter adaptor and new filter without draining the oil in the crankcase (only has 1,500 miles on it) or will it be a bloody mess and I'd be better off waiting to change the oil?

Sorry if this is newbie question and I've only changed the oil once since I got the car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You'll lose some amount of oil if you remove the filter. You could capture the lost oil, measure it, and refill that same amount. But it will be a mess.
Just wait until your next oil change.
Just put a pan under the filter and go at it. Measure how much oil it leaked out and put back more or less the same, oil capacity is not an exact measurement. Err on the side of less oil, running a bit low is better than overfill. You can use the dash gauge and add little at a time and remeasure, I run mine 1/4 from the bottom.
I'd wait like binaryaudax suggests, but if you cant wait, just pull off the old filter, put on the new filter, start it up. Check oil level and add as much as needed. Also, if you want to use a larger filter, the NAPA gold 1258 fits on that stalk. It's what I use. I also run oll topped off on the stick, but it is an '02.
Received the LN adapter and put it on yesterday morning with the engine cold. Dipstick read half way between the fill and full marks. Jacked up the rear passenger side tire enough to get good access to the oil filter (but tire not off the ground). Entire change out took 20 minutes and only lost about 5 fluid ounces of oil to my oil pan throughout the entire process and added all back into the engine. Not a drop on the garage floor. The LN adapter with screw on filter is a solid setup.
You can cut it open with a tool they sell:

Which I do not use. I just throw the filters in the trash. I will cut the damn thing open if and when I find metal stuck to this magnetic drain plug:
