Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked the clearance with my current tires and there is ~1.25" in clearance to the fender.
Leading evidence: 'Check clearance' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'smarter choice' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check clearance' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

As indicated above, I run 205/50 and 255/40 on original 996 17" wheels for my winter setup.

I fully realize that these wear quickly and if I'm not regularly in the snow then all seasons are probably a smarter choice.

I'm trying to find Blizzaks for these wheels, and unfortunately, they don't make them in Porsche's recommended sizing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm a new owner of a 2001 C4 that hasn't been modified suspension wise.
I just bought a set of 17's that came off a boxster S that I would like to use as winter wheels. Dims below. These are the same as the stock 911 17's I believe.

In an ideal world, I would be running full winter tires (Blizzaks). I fully realize that these wear quickly and if I'm not regularly in the snow then all seasons are probably a smarter choice. That being said, I know the power of winters once it gets dicey and would like to have that confidence in my car. I'm also planning on taking it skiing if I have winters.
I'm trying to find Blizzaks for these wheels, and unfortunately, they don't make them in Porsche's recommended sizing. The widest 17" Blizzak that I can get is 245/45/17 which ends up being 25.7" tire diameter (current tires are 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 at 25.1" and 25.3" respectively). Porsche's recommended sizing for front is 205/50/17 which is a 25.1" diameter. Given the rear would be 25.7", this seems like too much of a difference between front and rear. My next best option for the fronts is a 215/50/17 which is 25.5" diameter, similar to the rears at 25.7". I know Pirelli Sottozero come in stock sizing, but they are discontinued/not available anywhere.
I checked the clearance with my current tires and there is ~1.25" in clearance to the fender. Given the wheels will actually be pulled inward from the outer fender and will be further from the wheel well given their offset and width, I don't anticipate a clearance issue.
That being said, I'm curious if anyone sees any issue with running a 215/50/17 & 245/45/17 combo of winters in regard to clearance or AWD issues.
Yes, the rear would be skinny, but that's actually better for snow/ice and I also don't care about the looks or the dry road performance loss. If this combo doesn't work, I'm left with going with all seasons which would probably be fine, just not very confidence inspiring.
Thoughts?
Get on the Tire Rack web site and type in your car and the 17" wheel size. It will give you the factory recommended tire sizes. As indicated above, I run 205/50 and 255/40 on original 996 17" wheels for my winter setup. Since you have a C4, sticking to that size (or ratio) is extremely important to the life of your drivetrain. Not sure if the Boxster 17" wheels are the same width/offset as the 996 17"'s, so you'll have to research that.
